View Full Version : Checkmate/Wildcard question
I have a Checkmate Knight near a wildcard (50+ points). My wildcard copies checkmate TA. The Knight takes a power action to perplex something. The wildcard switches to JLA TA and moves away (though is still within 8 squares).
Does the perplexed value go away?

CHECKMATE
Keyword(s): Checkmate
Cost: 6
Minion: Kings and Queens and Bishops. When another friendly character using this team ability and with a point value greater than 50 is within 8 squares, this character can be given a power action to use Perplex if it can’t already use Perplex.
I don't think so. Compare to new-ish wording of the Superman Enemy TA:
SUPERMAN ENEMY
When two characters that can use the Superman Enemy team ability are adjacent to each other, the character with the higher point value may be given a free action to use Outwit. That character can use Outwit until the beginning of your next turn, if it cannot use Outwit already and continues to use this ability. If the two characters have the same point value, their controller chooses which is treated as the higher point character this turn.
In the case of the SE TA, that bolded line makes it clear that if the initial conditions to use the TA are lost, the Outwit is still retained until the beginning of your next turn. No such line exists for the Checkmate ATA, though, so if the more expensive character moves out of range, the power should be lost and the effect would end (like if a normal Perplex character was damaged or something similar).

I don't think so.

I'm confused. Does the Perplexed value go away or not?

Yeah, the second part makes it seem like you're saying the perplex would go away. :p
Re: SE--I thought that if one of the Supes Enemy guys changes TAs the Outwit goes away. Guess it doesn't, though, based on that wording.

The lower point value Superman Enemy can do anything it wants without an effect on the Outwit. It can even be KOd. The higher point value Superman Enemy must continue to use the Superman Enemy team ability to keep the effect of the Outwit. If it is a wild card that changes team abilities then the Outwit will go away.

Which makes me think the perplexed value would go away too in the Checkmate example.

Completely agree. Hoping normalview clarifies his answer.

No seeming; that's exactly what I said:

Where is the confusion? Am I missing something?

Yeah, I said: "Does the perplexed value go away?"
And you said:
"I don't think so. Compare to new-ish wording of the Superman Enemy TA"

Ah, I see. I somehow read that as "Does the perplexed value stay"... sure you didn't modify that ;)

Well, then I guess I just need to slow down a tad when reading :surprised
Anyway, I hope this helped ;)
