View Full Version : Thanos was made WAY too early...
I'm sure everyone has figures that they wish would be made more powerful, maybe even toned down a bit. The scale of Marver Heroclix goes from normal humans to cosmic beings to gods...I know that Infinity Challenge was a test basically, but why oh why did they make Thanos at that point in time? I am a big fan of Thanos, and of course I think he should be more powerful than he is. In his case though, Thanos warrents this(unlike what those dirty Gambit fans will do when they see the cajun doesn't have a 13 attack). Sure, the attack values are good on the Titan, but the damage sucks hard. He only does 4 damage for one click...now is that saying that he isn't as strong as Thor? As far as powers go, I think they took the best route with the damage modifier. I'm sure there'll be nay-sayers...but I truly feel this guy can deal out more damage than Firelord can even dream of. I could go on and on about other figures as well.
*sigh*
Kissoon,
While you're mostly right (and I could go on and on about how Magneto is WAY to underpowered in Clix), let me throw something out for you.
R/E/V figs are intended to represent characters as they evolve through the comics; they are "generic" figs, and COULD represent, say, Magneto at any number of different storylines (because characters change from comic to comic).
Uniques, on the other hand, represent figures from one specific comic, storyline, or era. Professor X in the hoverchair, for instance, or old-school Cyke, or the new Elektra from Assassins. So there's a good chance that Thanos could show up again, far more powerful than he is now. I guess this Thanos is a young, weak Thanos or something... ;)

Thanos is kind of plain white bread, but you're paying for that eventual 4 damage/15 attack. A 15 attack will hit a 20 defense on a 5 or less. Grented he needs a taxi, but those high stats are what you are really paying for.

Making an Infinity Guantlet Thanos would require expensive points and special rules like they do for Sentinels.

Interesting. I would have to agree that Thanos is underpowered, there is only one way to fix this that Wizkids should have recognized long before they made any heroclix.
I am making a new topic due to what I think could have changed things.

Yeah gotta agree this Thanos sure feels weak.
I'd like to see Jon L's magic touch grace this character, I'm pretty sure a new version of Thanos would prove a more accurate representation. I mean this is the guy who's toyed with the Silver Surfer, stood up to the mad Thor, and held his own against Odin one on one!
Oh, and let's not forget how he whooped/outwitted 5 elders of the universe and the In-Betweener to grab those infinity gems. ;)
He deserves more colors on his dial!

I wouldn't say he's completely weak though, I would just say you can't go in all guns blazing like with Cyke or Bulleye with Wasp.

As you say, Infinity Challenge, like the first set in any collectible game is the most inconsistant. Overcosted, underpowered figures abound, and there are a few (we won't mention any names) who are very undercosted for their powers.
I appreciate that Thanos is a personal favorite, so you're naturally disgruntled that they made him in such a way that he doesn't match your vision of him. You're not alone. As Unasoda said Magneto fans were disappointed too, as were Hobgoblin fans, Spider-Man fans Captain America fans, Daredevil fans... The list goes on.
Take comfort in the fact that WizKids has heard customer complaints and re-done some of the figures above. We can but hope that more "fixed" figures are forthcoming, and with luck, Thanos may be among them. He's certainly a big enough character in the Marvel Universe to justify more than one version of him.

Hmm...!
Well, I indeed agree that Thanos is not up to par with his Comic book persona in HC. His stats are where they should be, and the INV, toughness, regeneration are acurate. However, Thanos has displayed in the comics the powers outwit, SS, EE, phasing (time/dimension travel without use of the reality gem), and various other abilities that are hard to equate with an HC super power. That said, he could definately be remade with his true Titanian Eternal powers and abilities. I mean the guy can use his Titanian powers to harness cosmic energy. I would not object to a Thanos that costs 200 plus points because he should. Thats just my two cents!
Hopefully Wizkids will figure out, what Wizards of the coast did and have multiple editions like they do with Magic. Magic has editions and expansions, although the cards mostly do not change maybe Wizkids could make a few changes. One could hope.

What are you trying to do? Bankrupt me? I couldn't afford to start collecting a new basic set of Heroclix every two years or so :)

Thanos is pretty weak compared to the way he is in the comics. the guy should definitely have super strength. Even before he got the infinity gems he could press 90 tons. His damage should be a 4 for atleast 3 clicks of his dial. I mean he could go toe to toe w/ a certain Asgardian (Whom wasn't pulling any punches at that time). Magneto, as one of the judges pointed out, WAS way more of a disappointment. The only thing that I can think of as an excuse for such a glass jaw, is that he is the older version of Mags. That would make sense though, because he was no longer w/ the Brotherhood when he was younger/rejuventaed (Eric the Red changed him from a child to a 25 year old adult). He appeared w/ the Acolytes in his more powerful form (Man those guys are pretty weak, maybe the Mags w/ the cool companions is better). In my mind Thanos should be a 210 point character, and Mags should be atleast a 140 point character (What's with all the Leadership on Mags dial, he leads by threats, not team play).

For all of you who are agreeing thanos is underpowered, if you havnt replied to my new topic, please do so.
If any of you play Mageknight then you know that Wizkids can remake an entire set with different paint jobs and whole new figures as well as stats. Who's to say they can't do that with IC.

That'd be because they'd need two characters that were the exact same, but with different colours. It happens, but not often. And it would be really lame for comics too. But with MK, you can take a Minotaur, resculpt him a new head and feet, and call him an orge.

I,for one, IMPLORE WizKids not to redo the ENTIRE IC set at once, like they did in MK with Unlimited. I like what it appears they are doing now, slipping in a few redone figures in each set, starting with XP. New Daredevil, for example, not changed drastically, just modified slightly to better represent the character and answer fans requests for LC and permanent SuperSenses. New Spidey as well.
This way, they could just insert a few more into each set. A new Cap would be a great next choice.
As for Thanos, he is one of my all-time favorites as well. I would like to see a new one with the same dial stats but with him starting on that great 15A/4or5D click and keeping it for 3 or 4 clicks. Defense colors are good (maybe more Regen?) but add more color to the rest - Phasing, SuperStrength, Outwit, Perplex, etc. Maybe not quite a Doc Strange swiss army knife dial, but close. I wouldn't even mind if they bumped his defensive numbers up (20D?) and made him 250 pts plus. Maybe even a 200/225/250 pt R/E/V set.
Can you tell I really like the Mad God of Titan? :)
Just my thoughts...
