Hey you all,

I just recently caught the JLA episode with Jason Blood in it and I found the character rather interesting. Anyone care to point me to some history on the character? And what do you guys suppose he'd end up like when he comes out in clix? All I can say for sure is he'll probably have the Mystics Team Ability.

Thanks in advance,
VH

Ok, here's what I know. I've been a Demon fan for a long time and some of it might be a little fuzzy.

Originally, Etrigan was supposed to be a relative of Merlin (brother or something but brain is fuzzy on that) who was summoned by Merlin who forced him to defend Camelot. It didn't matter though because Camelot fell and Merlin didn't want a rampaging demon on the loose, so he bound him to Jason Blood, who was a disgraced knight (for cowardice I think but could be wrong). Jason went nuts and killed his family and other nasty things during this period. Originally Jason couldn't transform. Etrigan was trapped fully within him and messed with his mind and sanity. Jason some years later found the spell that would let them "switch" and became the Demon we all know and love. Now his history from this point depends on who was writing it as he sorta flipped from "bad" to "good" several times, but eventually he settled into the "good" role and has stayed there. Two notes. Etrigan ALWAYS speaks in rhyme, unlike the JLA show where he talked fairly normally. Two, the "gone gone" spell/rhyme is actually a bit longer in it's original form, but I can't remember it. I do know that it was shortened to just "Gone, gone the form of man, rise the demon Etrigan!". Jason outside of the Demon form is a formidable sorcerer in his own right, and far from helpless. The Demon has superhuman strength and toughness, can breathe heckfire (you know what it is, but the language filter...), and is a phenominal combatant. That about sums it up.

If you can find the original Kirby issues they are a real headtrip. Loads of sparring with his arch-nemesis Morgaine and battling against giant freaky monsters. Like much of Jack's DC work it is a bit out there and some of the dialogue is very stilted, but the creativity bursts off the page in a big way. Also the Demon mini-series from the 80s was decent in a more contemporary way. Just skip the 90s era series that basically made him into a drinking buddy for Lobo.

Thanks guys,

I'll try to do myself a favor and pick up some of Kirby's old DC work (Demon / New Gods) they sound good. ;)

"Change change the form of man, release the soul forever ####ed, free the might from fleshy mire, boil the blood in heart of fire. Gone, gone the form of man arise the demon Etrigan"

Really bad ### character definatly does not fit in with the usuall DC roster but works really well when in the right book.

Speaking of Etrigan, my cousin took the head of a Skrull agent and the body of Clayface, repainted them, made a dial, and bingo- Etrigan clix! He be nasty... Dr. Doom managed to kill him tonight, but not easily.

if anyone is interested in making an etrigan mod, try this: take the extreme green goblin and repain him, hes the perfect piece and the stats on his dial are really close to etrigans

Etrigan is also a very powerful magic caster, and not just limited to his brute strength and hellfire. He does have awesome brute strength, though. He smashed Superman to the moon recently. In the same issue, he also displayed a nice array of magic: controlling the magic chick's gas, cutting Superman, and finally teleporting away. In an earlier Superman issue (written/drawn by Byrne), the Demon sent Superman to the Middle Ages with a time spell.

Blood's most recent use of magics can be seen in JLA's Obsidian Age. He did some teleportation and magical analysis. He also enchanged Green Arrow's arrows.

I'd like to see both in Clix form (both Unique). I'd say Blood would have enhancement, and maybe outwit and support for his damage stats. Maybe he could have some mixture of HSS, smoke cloud, barrier, phasing, etc. Etrigan would have impervious to toughness with possibly a click or two of regen. He'd have either EE or RCE and/or B/C/F or CCE. Maybe give him HSS (since he teleports), but if not, Charge. And both should be mystics. A regening Etrigan mystic would be neat :p .

The Demon is not good by himself. He is a Demon after all. He is only good because he is trapped in Jason Blood. The link between the two causes him not to be able to be his Demonic Self. I can not say that he follows Blood's orders, but there is definetly some control over him by Jason.

The Demon always rhymes. It is part of his job title of the Rhyming Demon. While in Hell he aquired the title to help torture souls with the insane rhyming. He has kept ever since.

His father was one of the Rulers of hell. He is a prince of Demons.

The Demon is a very capable sorceror in his own rights.

The Demon is half brother to Merlin. They share the same Father.

The Demon once conquered Hell and was going to bring his war to Heaven before he was relinked to Jason Blood.

Jason Blood and Etrigan are two of my favorite DC characters!

One thing that didn't really come out in the JL episode was that Etrigan hates Jason (and vice versa.) Oddly enough, he has been shown to respect Batman, due to the Bat having "inner demons" of his own (in a slightly less literal sense.)

Awww . . . isn't that cute? ^_~ But I think this is my favorite picture of Etrigan:
