I think it's just because of how good of a figure he is, most people who have one keep him, as well as min/maxers wanting multiples

Actually, I think that despite the fact he was a rare...he was a really rare rare. What I mean is, I know people who bought a case or two and never got a Cap at all.

As it always boils down to...popularity + playability + relatively low number in production.

Why is HOT Captain America so expensive? I was going to buy a couple to use the shield for a custom (the Ultimates, Infinity Challenge, and Armor Wars Captain America shields are too big), but eBay auctions have them going for $25-$30 apiece! It's not even a super rare. How come it's going for so much?

There's a discussion going here about that same thing in the Trading General Discussion:

He's just crazy good.

He's just crazy good.

Add to this the fact that his distribution was all kinds of wonky, and you have yourself an answer.

I gave away 3 of them back when the set came out. There was a thread up about this a couple weeks ago. I went and found 2 more that were still in the box never taken out. I have lots of SI and AA that still have all the figures stillin them accept Super Rares. I also have a few HoT and BitB similarly intact. After seeing the thread I went back looking for some choice Rares. Had 2 Captain America figs. Wonder if Bullseye will be as valuable? I got 3 of him right now.

I did the same thing. I pulled 4 myself, kept one, and gave the other 3 away to my players. Then after giving them away, I found out how much he was going for... :cheeky:

As for Bullseye, only time will tell.

I gave three of those away back then. Oy!

I do not think this is true.

I do not think this is true.

Maybe this is just my experience, but nobody at my venue, in several cases, managed to pull him. We all had to go to the secondary market to get our hands on him.

This subject comes up fairly frequently.

Cap is a Rare from an underproduced and now hard-to-find set. He's got a modest point cost (so can be played in multiples) and an excellent dial with a metagame-affecting special power.

Also, I keep destroying HoT Caps so that I can use them for mods. The supply is thus lower. :p
