Is there any events going down at comic con?

I don't believe that there are any official ones, but some players may put something together.

Some talk of that in this thread. (http://www.hcrealms.com/forum/showthread.php?p=5014107#post5014107)

I've seen a few pick-up games happen, but never anything big or "official".

That said, I would love to someday see official or sponsored events at NYCC...so long as I don't have to work them (NY is one of the few shows I prefer to enjoy for myself). :p

Anyone going for the show itself? A pretty good-sized group of clix'ers from my area will be attending.

I just realized the NYCC was coming up in two weeks, and am seriously considering attending. I think it'll fit in the budget.

I got a couple of weekend passes that are extra (friend of mine and his lady had a last minute change in plans).

Just saying is all. ;)

Guest list at NYCC this year is crazy good! :classic:

I and both my roommates have weekend passes.

I will be sure to always have a team on me just in case.

but we should plan something while we still have a week or so.

also, we're trying to get a steady group going at Jim Hanley's Universe in Manhattan. What better place to play clix every week but in the shadow of the empire state building?

We're currently playing there on Mondays which is, I believe, the open gaming night.

Hellboy
09/25/2010, 12:03
yes, we're playing on open gaming night, because we need everyone's support to form a strong steady group. when we do, we can petition for a night of our own. they are into it, but we have to show that we can support it!

You guys should come to king games and talk to the guys there. see if you can rotate weeks or nights.

Hellboy
09/25/2010, 23:53
the reason for the place in Manhattan is for an easy to get to location that's central.

we're looking for players whom might think Kings games is a bit farther than they'd like to travel.

we're not looking for another group in the burbs. we're lookin' for people who want to play in the Dead center of town.

My status has moved from considering the trip to probably going. It seems likely I'll only be going to one day of the show. I would really like to get Stan Lee's autograph, so Sunday might be that day on which I go. Because my girlfriend will be with me, I unfortunately won't be able to get away with playing Clix. I'll post again in the next couple of days when my plans are closer to being finalized.

I plan on getting Stan to Sign my X-Men #1, and to get a picture with him & it.

adamical
09/27/2010, 17:03
Damn I wish I had X-Men #1 for him to sign! That's what I realized, is that I don't have anything awesome for him to sign. Right now my first thought is a trade of the first few Amazing Spider-Man issues. It'd be cool to try and get him to sign my Amazing Fantasy Omnibus, but I don't even want to begin to try lugging that thing to New York.

Also, with regards to Stan Lee:

How early do we need to be standing in line? I'm going to be staying with a friend in New Jersey, meaning it'll take me about two hours to make it to the actual con from when I leave. To make it there by 7, when they hand out the tickets, I'll probably have to wake up at close to 4am. That's going to be rough.

I remember the Galactus tickets at WW Philly way back in 2004. I got up at like 2:30am and drove four hours to Philly to stand in line for a Galactus ticket, and then spent probably two hours or more in line before I had Galactus in my hot little hands. I then left in the late afternoon to drive four hours back home before passing out. That was a long day.

Well, NYCC says they will take any unclaimed tickets at 7:30a and then distribute them first come, first served, from their show store.

That said, I will be shocked if there are tickets left at 7:30a. :noid:

I've been putting off looking into it, but a rule of thumb for something like this is two hours. Get in line at least two hours before it happens. Some people might even say three. The trick is A) have a friend B) Make new friends C) bring enough gum for everyone D) have your handheld game system fully charged.

the real dillema is this: get in line early, pick up yor pass, then get right back in line to see Stan. I can see this as being one of my days. Hopefully, I'll already have it signed before the clix event.

I need to look into when the signing is happening.

From the NYCCC Website (http://www.newyorkcomiccon.com/en/NYCC/Autographs/Ticketed-Autographs/):

Stan Lee Autograph Tickets
Stan Lee will be appearing at NYCC, conducting various panels and signings throughout the three days of the convention. Directly for the show, he’ll be holding two hours of free, public signings on Sunday, October 10 beginning at 10:45 AM. These signings will take place in Room 1C05. These signings are free, but a ticket is required. Tickets will be distributed at the outside doors to the Jacob Javits Center by Hall A (The Uptown End of the building) at 7 AM on Sunday, October 10. Tickets will be first come, first served. Attendees may line up in advance near this entrance by the "AUTOGRAPH TICKET LINE STARTS HERE" sign. This is the single line for Stan Lee's free, public signing. (Attendees can wait outside other doors to get into New York Comic Con, but you must be outside the Hall A doors to get in line for Stan Lee.) At 7:30 AM, in the event that all of Stan Lee's autograph tickets have not been claimed, pick up will be relocated to the Show Store. Tickets will then be distributed from the Show Store until all are gone.

I hope this helps! :classic:

I spent some time looking into events.

sure enough, the only guaranteed way to get a Stan Autograph is the Sunday Morning line. He'll be on various panels and in various events, but this seems to be the only Autograph specific event. No photo-ops though! dang. I would have shelled out the $50! oh well.

starting to get a sweet itinerary together though. Definitely interested in the Comics Psychology track!

you're saying 5AM correct? that's actually a pretty good time to get in line if the tickets are handed out at 7AM.

what games have you got for PSP? I have Marvel VS cardgame... and AD&D Tactics... and Star Trek Tactics...and a number of puzzle games. I've never gotten to play with anyone wirelessly, because if they have a PSP, we don't have any of the same games. what have you got? I'm pretty sure my Silent Hill Origins game isn't meant to be played head to head.

Well... it's been a looong time I don't play my psp.... actually nowadays I'm using it for music & movies... and of course, I have different games now... I erased/added all the time (when I played). But we can find a game to share, I'm sure.

Anybody interested in a free Marvel Digital Comics subscription in return for getting me one of the new Marvel Universe X-Force Archangel figures at the show?

There are maddeningly few solid details, but apparently if you buy a digitial subscription at NYCC you get the figure for free. So, you buy the subscription (one month for $9.99), get the free figure, and mail it to me. I'll reimburse you the $9.99 and pay for shipping, plus a little more for your troubles! Alternatively, see if there's anything you need from my Haves list.

Let me know if anyone's interested, and have a great time at the show!

Honestly though, I don't have much in the way of a Haves list. That's why I'm offering the almighty dollar instead to anyone at NYCC who can help me with my bounties.

awesome first day!

didn't find this mythic open gaming area however, but I did tell a clix player I met about the event. I hope I can find it tomorrow morning!

No Toon Tumblers exclusives this year! they didn't make it, but if they had it would have been a 75th anniversary green lantern like the 75th Sperman one from the Chicago show! arg. but I got a silver Surfer pint and a Dr Doom one.

speaking of exclusives, I have two white lantern Hal Jordan and two battle damaged Batman exclusives that will be going up for trade.

I scored a Watchmen collector set for 57$ !!! anyone who's at the con, and doesn't already have one? go to Troll & Toad's booth! 57$, new. (no shipping) That was my bargain of the day.

Saw the Venture Bros. panel as well as the Robot Chicken panel. both were pretty much just all questions from the crowd. a bit unstructured. saw some funny Robot Chicken previews for the Christmas special, the third (hour-long) Star Wars Special, and the upcoming season 5.

More costumes is what I hear. Not as many as I'm accustomed to as a long time Dragon*Con attendee, but I saw some costumes throughout the day. nothing that amazing though.

food prices were outrageous.

yeah. spent most of the day wandering and shopping. Got Two Black Lantern Hoodies, since I know my roommate has wanted one for forever, its his early birthday gift.

I also got three of the solo glowing rings that Graffitti was selling. Yes, that's right... the DC direct glowing lantern rings are now available in singles as opposed to a complete set, at $10 a ring. I got a yellow, a black and an Orange.

too much free tidbits to list.

I already spent $250, so I'm hoping to make some trade back in those exclusives.

tomorrow should be a lot of fun. see you at Comic Brawl 3!

the rings have keys that turn them on & off, and they are pressure sensitive so they know when they are being worn, and light up.

I live close enough that I've gone to NYCC on a whim on a late morning/early afternoon (not to mention bringing my clix) so if there were exclusives and/or good events I would gladly show up yearly.

I've seen a few pick-up games happen, but never anything big or "official".

That said, I would love to someday see official or sponsored events at NYCC...so long as I don't have to work them (NY is one of the few shows I prefer to enjoy for myself). :p

Today a small dedicated force of clixers staked out a small but very visible and public area, and without any support or provocation; permission or encouragement, held a New York Comic Con Heroclix tournament.

Matt ran the show and when a fifth player jumped in he took the bye in the first round. Except for an extreme party foul in the form of a full beer swamping an entire team late in the day, he did a fantastic job. +10 JUDGE PTS.

teams, to give a quick overview, were :

Black Lanterns, Yellow Lanterns, Ulik & rock Trolls Thor team up, Hellboy & the BPRD, and Darkseid and the minions of apocalypse.

I should probably let someone else give the blow by blow, but we had a lot of fun and raised clix awareness at NYCC.

My roommate borrowed my phone and never came back, so afterwards I had no way to find my friends. So, I set out to find out if this rumor we had heard that some booth had Brightest Day sets for sale was true (it wasn't... I finally found it on display in the previews direct display cases, highlighting future products. Why do they put prices on things that aren't for sale? I can see why that rumor got started. confusing.

then I went to a panel about the poetic and cinematic symbolism of Godzilla.

great day. Tomorrow I'm up as the daylight cracks to wait in line for a ticket to get a signature from Stan the man.

I absolutely failed to get that autograph.

-30 FANBOY PTS for me. a few people actually sat out since 7PM the night before, and apparently played D&D to pass the time, another guy I talked to who got a ticket said he got in line at 4AM and there was already a considerable line. Had I arrived at 5AM as I had planned, I probably would have gotten in anyway. But my alarn failed, or I set it wrong, or I "woke up" and turned it off. But I missed the window. sad.

regardless, I got a lot of great bargains in the dealer room, some exclusive figures to trade or sell, and had some fun. as consolation, I got the first 4 issues of Comic Book Comics plus an action Philosophers poster all signed by both Fred Van Lente & Ryan Dunlavey.

I was there so early, I got a shot at playing Marvel Vs Capcom 3, and it was so sweet.

Later me and a friend sat and watched the Intel ESL Video Game Championship finals in person.

pretty fun day. went by so fast. now its all over.

Shoutout to Munchoboy for the awesome prize support~!~

and not just him, but all realms members with no room on their plate for clix at the con, who still stopped by and pitched in. This is why this game is coming back, and will continue to do so.

thanks to all involved.

see you next year. (and at Jim Hanley's in Manhattan)

oh hey... did you know they are opening a new midtown comics in the financial district? maybe they would have space to host clix games at the new store?

just pondering options...

All – For those that haven’t been to the NYCC it really is getting to be a do not miss convention. From the con attendees in costume, vendors and panels – Seth Green is a riot and of course Stan Lee - NYCC is a good value for the buck.

And a big thanks to MATTMINUS for running this year’s event and all who attended. It was great to meet him again and fellow realmers – special thanks to MUNCHOBOY for his generosity, which I know something of from trading with him here and under inuyasha on the former WK site – great guy and strong supporter of heroclix.

Also, for those who have not seen any of HELLBOY’s mods please check them out they are amazing. His rocket raccoon is to die for – crazy good.

Thanks again for a great time,

AUKOS
