View Full Version : Poor choice of powers...
I was looking at (WOS) wolverine and LE Daken... and they both have Blades claws + Close combat expert on the same click with 2 base damage..
so you're gambling 50/50 to hit higher than just using close combat expert, that's something i can understand but....
Then after looking on the unit page...

Blades Claw on a 4 natural damage + CCE... you're already guaranteed 6 damge... why would you need to use blades..
Goodness and Mercy and KC wonder women both have 3 damage + CEE... so you're rolling for 1/6 to do 1 click of higher damage -_-
Soo my main question is why do pieces that can do 5-6 damage in close combat, need blades? with 4, giving it a 50/50 is reasonable of a gamble but 1/3 and 0% chance of hitting higher >>?
replacing either power would probably be more beneficial imo.

Ares does have two clicks of Flurry, which does not work with CCE but works just fine with Blades.
Other than that, it is probably mostly a matter of "one could get Outwitted". And feat prerequisites.

There may be times when a B/C/F roll, which becomes a replacement value, may be better than using a modifier (like CCE). Your opponent could Perplex Ares' Defense down to 1 -- and then he just uses B/C/F to get a replacement value.
Plus, using B/C/F activates on certain actions that CCE does not -- Charge and Flurry are the two big ones.
It does give the player multiple options when facing lots of Outwit.
And finally, I think some of those powers were designed without thought to the ultimate min/max application of the dial. Some of it is "flavor". "Well, the dude's got a huge axe, we should get some B/C/F in there."

Replace, then modify. The Perplexes would still be applied to the B/C/F roll.

It has been mentioned (http://www.hcrealms.com/forum/showthread.php?p=2766868).

I think WolvieFan9 meant damage value, not defense. And since BCF locks, the opposing player's Perplexes to damage value would not affect the damage value when BCF is used.
From the Player's Guide:
When this character is given a close combat action, you may roll a d6 after making a successful attack roll. The result replaces this character’s damage value, then that damage value is locked until the attack resolves.

D'OH! Yep, that is what I meant, he Perplexes down your DAMAGE, and you use B/C/F.

Why B/C/F instead of CCE?
Ares can heal himself using Vampirism. The wise choice would be to target a generic character or a character with no damage reducers.
When using Lunge in conjunction with Flurry, he can automatically break away from the first target and move two squares to target a second target.
Prerequisites: Close Combat Expert or Leap/Climb
Choose a Character.
When the character is given an action, but before it makes a close combat attack, it can break away automatically and move up to 2 squares.

I'm guessing this is mostly it. Ares and KC wonder woman both have the 5-6 damage with CCE but they also have charge and/or flurry.
All the other characters that have a 2-3 base damage that also have B/C/F + CCE, have no charge/flurry. They have either nothing or phasing... So i guess in their case, its to go with a 50/50 for higher damage.
