Tournament point system??????

Played my first tournament today.I did great,but feel cheated.It was based on points.Game 1 I slaughtered my opponent.Only loseing Pyro.Now the way the point system as I was told goes if you win take the persons army(which was roughly 200)and minus my loses.So I got 165(200 - 35 for Pyro) to my opponents 35.Game 2 I utterly crushed some guy takeing no loses.I ended up getting 197 pts.I was feeling really good,as there was only 1 match left,and all but myself and 1 other guy had yet to lose.I ended up playing a guy that was 1-1.My rolls failed me badly , I made a crucial strategical blunder,and his Nightcrawler made 3 super sense rolls.I ended up losing and only getting 60some points for killing E Cyclops.I knew it was a points game and there was only 3 min left,and I still had U Wasp alive.I was going to fly Wasp away and soar around for the last 3 min and save the points.I decided not to,duked it out,and lost Wasp.I ended up 3rd place by 40 points.So saving Wasp would have gotten me what ended up to be a LE Doctor Doom.Now what bothers me is this.A person on the loseing side can get more points than the winner?Say you wipe out a guy but lose 125 pts worth in the process.Winner gets 200-125 for a total of 75 pts.But the loser gets 125???Thats how they told me to tally points.Did I get cheated,or is there a flaw in the scoreing system??

A tourney is supposed to go like this.

Wins count for the outcome.
Since both you and your opponent lost 1 game each, then you go by number of points (sounds like 2nd place won 2 games also).

Points should be played like this:
You total the number of points you took from your opponent and then add the number of points from your remaining army. That is your point total.
