View Full Version : Weekly Heroclix Tournaments at Graham Crackers Comics Naperville, IL
Hello all. I've noticed quite a few threads recently posting venue information trying to drum up some new players as well as providing information to the old regular players.
Some quick venue information:
Name: Graham Crackers Comics
Website: http://www.grahamcrackers.com/
Address: 1271 Rickert Drive (Suite #135) Naperville, IL 60540
When we play: Heroclix Tournaments every Thursday Night.
Time: Games start between 6pm and 6:30pm
Entry Fee: NONE
Our Judge(s): Cary Kelly (IrishBlade) and Rob Peterson (SLVRSR4)
Our Player Group/playstyle: We are a very close knit and very friendly group of players. Our skills range from beginner to expert and hit every point in-between. There is not a player at our venue who won't try to have fun and/or teach new players. We don't believe in retirement, so all figures that have ever been made are fair game unless there is a special stipulation to the tourney rules for that week forbid them. We don't generally use BFC's or Event Dials. Also, there is something to play for every week. On top of the OP kit prizes to play for, the Judge that week will purchase a couple of packs of the current set and will allow the players to pick from what he pulls based on winner, fellowship, etc.

Yes, he is
I play there as well we always have a great time and lately about a 10-12 person turn out. The judge even buys packs at the end of the game on top of the prize support (can't always garuntee it but 9 times out of 10). Great place great people and afterwards Buffalo Wild wings........MMMMMMMMMMM wings

Sorry Rob I didn't see that you covered the Cary buys packs part.........also remeber 2 weeks ago 3 Cosmic Spidermen were pulled as well......that was crazy
Yes, he is
Is he named after the character, or is it just coincidence?
I don't know. Show up and ask him.

Every Thursday?
Every Thursday?
Yep. I got laid off a while back and now my part time job is my only source of income, so there's no taking a day off for Clix.
Well, I don't know where you live, but we also play at the Wheaton Graham Crackers on Mondays at about the same time.
I'm VERY glad we didn't get any new players generated from this thread yesterday, because you would have made a team for nothing. We ended up having to play a sealed tournament because that's what our schedule originally stated, and Cary decided to keep with that since not enough people got the message that we had switched it.
Stipulations for 10/7/2010
Same day/time as always. 500 points constructed. No feats. No BFCs/Event Dials. All figures are legal.

I wish it was on a different night too! I would go play in Elgin! Convince your venue to change dates, and we can play at each other's venue! What venue do you go to?

Is the Judge in Elgin Adam? if so he knows us very well, he use to play with us in Oswego. Ask him if he would be willing to switch nights and maybe we can have two huge turn outs at two different venues each week. Most of us at Graham Cracker are looking for other nights to play.
"rowdyoctopus" sweet........... were else in the World can you talk to a rowdyoctopus??
Bump in hopes to get more players tomorrow.
500 pts no feats

Next week (10/14) Same Bat Time Same Bat Channel
400 points constructed. Golden Age. Everyone you are using must have a gun somewhere on their person.
Come on down and bring a friend. It's gonna be fun on a bun.
This week (10/21) at the Cracker's of Grahams, we are playing a 600 point constructed game. Pure and simple. No frills, bells, nor whistles*. Bring what you got and see if you can topple the best players at the best venue around!
(*) No collossal figures allowed
Just want to give everybody an update on what upcoming games at Graham Crackers will be.
(October 28th)- 1000 points constructed
(November 4th)- DESTROY ALL MONSTERS!!! Yeah, it's a little bit AFTER halloween, but it's time for our annual game against the big beasts. The Judge has adapted the rules slightly to allow play of Mage Knight's Apocalypse Dragon, Horrorclix's Cthulu, and of course, Fin Fang Foom. Everybody will be playing against AT LEAST these three beasts at the same time. Point value of teams TBD.
(November 11th)- Heroclix Chess. 750 points. Rules are as follows:
1-8 pieces that are either generics/have a minion power
1-2 Rooks- Have to have a damage reducer and a 0 range
1-2 Knights- Must have a move and attack power
1-2 Bishops- Must have a range of 8 or greater
1 King- Male figure who has leadership or mastermind
1 Queen- Female figure 75 points or more
The Chess game is going to be awesome
we may need to have it more than 750????
lets try and make a couple of teams before the 11th and see what we come up with
Can't wait for tomorrow

Chess game doesn't need to be more than 750. You can have anywhere between 6-16 characters. Just so long as you have a representative of each piece. You just can't have any more of each figure than would normally be on a chess board.

My only issue with this format is a nitpick. As everyone knows, in chess, the queen is the most powerful piece by far. I think it should be 100pts or more. Like I said, it was a nit. Otherwise, great scenario. :)

I agree with your assesment, however, our Judge was going to originally say that you didn't even need a FEMALE figure to be the queen! I had to intervene. A lot of us are trying to play teams that are "Full Board" at 16 characters, so 75 points or greater is actually going to be one of the higher point figures on the board. On top of that, there weren't TOO MANY female figures that are powerful and over 100 points. We would see far too many Skrull-Vels.

Good on ya. That would have been pretty bad oversight.

Ah! That does make a difference. If that's the case, 75pts should be sufficiently powerful.

WizKids is sexist?!? I'm just sayin' the man does have a point.
Yeah, here's a breakdown of all "Modern Age" females that are 100+ points not counting duos since I believe it has to be a single figure and some duos have men/women combined:
1 in Web of Spider-man = Red She Hulk
1 Blackest Night Starter = Wonder Woman
2 Brave and the Bold = Wonder Woman, Power Girl
6 Hammer of Thor = Enchantress, Phyla Vell, Moondragon, Loki, Hela, Valkyrie
5 SI = Ms. Marvel, Ms. Skrull-Vel, Invisible Woman, Susan Richards, Sue Storm
3 Crisis = Mary Marvel, Star Sapphire, Supergirl
4 M&M = Danger, Emma Frost, Storm, Cassandra Nova
2 JLA = Granny Goodness, Wonder Woman
1 Avengers = Iron Widow
Granted, this game is a Golden Age game as almost all of the ones at Graham Crackers are, but that's only 25 different options for 10+ players.

Question on the monster's format. Are our teams supposed to be comprised of all monsters or are we only just going up against the 3+ monsters?
Real question is if we can just skip forward to Nov. 11th and play chess. I'm really looking forward to this one.

I'm really looking forward to the chess game also. However, the monster game is a tradition at our venue. We have done it every year for YEARS. Practically since the beginning of the game.
And we are just going against 3+ monsters. There is no limitation to what you can/cannot use as long as it's within the prescribed point total.
Cool. Some of us noobs don't have a huge collection of specialty clix.

Hey, that's fine. Cary usually tries to make it so anybody from any experience level can play. He doesn't constrict the game stipulations at all.
Also, if you ever need to borrow a figure just let me know a few days ahead of time. I am only missing a few figures out of everything that has ever been made.
Just a reminder about this weeks game:

Rob, What is the game going to be for 12-2????? that is when I will be back
That's the week after Thanksgiving, right? If that's the case, we're just going to be doing a 400 point modern age game. No feats or BFC's. Only figures playable are from Avengers set or more current.
There will be no game this coming thursday nor will there be a game on Thanksgiving (Obviously).

The game for 12-2-2010 is actually 300 points, no special rules. This info comes directly from Cary.
When did he say this? Brian and I were told that the game was to be 400 pts modern age
Hopefully everybody looks at this. After Phil tried to confuse everybody, I texted Cary and he said that he thought he told everybody 300 points. I corrected him and he said that if everybody remembered it as 400 modern then that is what we would play. So the game on 12/2 is officially 400 points/modern age.

Anyone know the other site that Kerry said he posted the next few upcoming game rules? I think he said Midwest something.

I just realized you guys responded to my post before. I'm only 2 months late. Yeah, my judge is Adam. Our venue is Modern Age Comics. When I first posted in this topic the name Graham Crackers Comics didn't mean much to me, but when I saw it this time I remembered Adam mentioning it a few times.
As far as the venue switching nights, right now space is an issue. Due to lack of space, tournaments have to be held after the store closes (at 7 pm). No big deal, except the other nights of the week are taken. Monday and Tuesday they are closed. Wednesday is new comic book day and the owner doesn't want to stay late (or he has extra clean up to do). Thursday is Heroclix. Friday night is Magic the Gathering. Saturday night is Dungeons and Dragons. And finally Sunday night is Yuh-Gi-Oh.
HOWEVER!
Either February or March of next year the shop is planning on moving to a larger store across the street and will have TONS of space. Not only will they be able to play during store hours if needed, we will likely be switching our night to Wednesday night.
Adam specifically mentioned Graham Cracker's when deciding on Wednesday, as well as one of our regulars recently getting a job that requires him to work Thursday nights.
We usually get 3-6 players a week right now. I am pretty much the only one that is there every week, aside from the occasional weeks I miss (like this up coming week unfortunately). Well and Adam is there every week too, haha.
For those that don't have the patience to wait for the Midwest games site to load (It took over 10 minutes to load the wallpaper!), here is a copy of the games for December.
Thursday Dec 2 - 400 pts. Modern Age rules.
Thursday Dec 9 - By request - League of Losers. Bring a team for your opponent to play as you play his team. Here are the ground rules:
- 5 actions per turn.
-All figs must be 100 pts. or more.
- NO duplicate figures.
-Team total must be between 975 - 1025 pts with NO feats.
- For all points that a team is UNDER 1000 - your opponent will get to add any FEATS he/she wants. So if you bring a team of 975 pts, your opponent can add Fortitude, or 3 Protecteds, or 2 Armor-Piercings and an Unstoppable...whatever they think will help that team out.
-For all points a team is OVER 1000 - no bonus - your opponent just gets extra points to use - but you cannot EARN more than 1000 pts in a round.
Thursday December 16 - DC 75th release - Marquee style event - 400 pts. 2 boosters.
Thursday December 23 - MIDNIGHT MADNESS ANNUAL EVENT!!!! Game set-up begins around 11-11:30 PM - first round starts at 12 Midnight!
Bring a 200 pt. team - Golden Age - with 10% feat limit. You will buy 2 boosters (whatever you want - DC 75th, WoS, anything else on the shelf). Out of the team you bring and the figures you pull - you will construct a 400 pt. team.
3 rounds - 4 actions per turn
Special rule for the evening - FOOD FOR CHARITY Re-rolls!!!!
In honor of Derek's annual Charity events - we will be doing a similar drive at the midnight event for the local food pantry.
Heres' how it will work - Bring non-perishable food goods that will be donated - canned goods, etc. You may buy a re-roll of any dice roll for one item. HOWEVER - to re-roll that same dice roll a SECOND time - it will DOUBLE to 2 food items. A 3rd re-roll of the same roll costs 4 items, etc. It will then re-set to one item when you move on to a different "roll" in the game.
Example - Smitty and Derek are vying for the win - it all comes down to a Super-sense roll. Smitty makes it - and Derek pays for a re-roll with one canned good. Smitty fails - so he pays for a re-roll of that same super-sense roll and it costs him TWO canned goods. He fails again - to re-roll would cost him FOUR canned goods. He makes it - now it is up to Derek to pay EIGHT canned goods or lose the game..You get the idea.
You may make re-rolls for you, your opponent, or that annoying guy over on the end table -- whoever you want and whenever you want.
Once again I have a variety of prizes - and EVERY player will get at least ONE prize! (Unfortunately - I have not had the time or money to get as many as in year's past - but we still have a good selection).
Prizes will include: Dr. Manhattan Colossal Figure, DC Brave & the Bold prizes - Lanterns, cards and figures, Web of Spider-man prize pack - figures and web-tokens. A few misc. LE's too.
Afterwards - we will play a battle-royale or 2 depending on how many want to play - it will cost 1 booster and 1 food good to play. Prizes for the battle royale will be Lanterns from B&tB. Same rules for Food for Re-roll apply.
Thursday Dec 30 - Bring a 100 pt. team and a 200 pt. team (must be separate teams). Golden age - 10% feat limit.
Round one - you will play your 100 pt team.
Round two - you will play your 200 pt team.
Round three - you will play BOTH teams combined for 300 pts.
I'll post this weeks stipulations later today. I'm on my phone right now, so I just prefer not to type that much.
Nevermind. Tom already got it.

What is the game for the first week of the year????
This Thursday (1/6/11) at Graham Crackers we are playing a 600 point game with a 50% floor rule for DC 75th. For anybody who may be unfamiliar with the floor rules, it means that at least half your team has to be comprised of the DC 75th set. It can be more, but it cannot be less. Feats are allowed, but it's a 10% cap AS ALWAYS (Brian, this is directed at you)
1/13/11
We are playing an 800 point game. The only special rules are that NO COLOSSALS ALLOWED, and you can only play with a maximum of 8 figures. This is a Golden Age game, so feats are allowed. Cary will be absent this week, so I am the Judge.
Hey, anybody that is coming to Graham Crackers tomorrow night for the game: Does anybody have a White Lantern Flash that they could let me borrow for a week? I need him for a game that I'm playing at my brothers' venue.
Hey, anybody that is coming to Graham Crackers tomorrow night for the game: Does anybody have a White Lantern Flash that they could let me borrow for a week? I need him for a game that I'm playing at my brothers' venue.
I will have mine with me as I packed for both my Thursday and Friday venues. I am deciding between two 400 point teams (200 pt DC75 floor) for Friday and either going with Gotham City or the Patriotic Flash team. I will decide before game time tomorrow and let you know.
Only seems fair for the one week "loan" of One-Who-Knows a few weeks back.
Well, I plan on running the patriotic Flash team myself if I would be so luck as to borrow him from you.
Just trying to cover all bases here:
We decided at last week's game that we were going to play a 500 Modern Age game this coming Thursday (1/20/2011) and after the fact a few of us got talking after several people had left and decided that we would much prefer a "Silver Age" game instead. For those that don't know, "Silver Age" is a term that has been adopted to basically say that you can play every piece from any set, but you aren't allowed feats/bfcs. It's the best of both worlds. Therefore, this week we will be playing 500 points, 5 actions, Silver age.
I will be sending some PMs out to inform everyone as best I can. If you know and talk to other players outside the venue, please tell them in case they have not seen this post!
This week at the Cracker of Graham, it is a return to a smaller point total...seriously...in the past month we have played no less than 600 point games. THEREFORE:
300 Point Golden Age is this week's stipulations. And for the love of God people, ENOUGH OF THE CHEESE!
I was in Vermont for work so I missed this week. What was the cheese that was played this time? Let me guess, week 4 of the year with Cosmic Spiderman or IMWM. I've never played Cosmic Spidey and just seeing him played by the same guy every week has made me tired of seeing him that I'm not sure if I will ever play it.
Can you provide a brief recap of the week? Who won? What did they play? Who left early after loosing one figure? Forget that last one as I probably already know the answer.

No, he actually didn't show up this week. Al was the one with Cosmic Spidey this week. He had a team that wasn't necessarily Cheese, but it was comprised of all Spider-Men with Cosmic Spidey heading up the charge. To make matters worse, he attempted to pick up the Hammer of Thor and succeeded. So, Cosmic Spidey was running around with a huge attack and Damage. I would say that Jonna's team as well as mine were only SEMI-Cheese based on the stipulations. She played with a 5 character White Lantern team, and I played with a 4 character Black Lantern team. Tony brought a Wildcard abuse/Robot team with about 6 characters with either perplex/SHIELD/or Enhancement or a combination thereof. It made it extremely difficult to do ANYTHING. Especially with his 10+ characters to my 4. Mike brought a Super Cheese Scientist team. Brian had a Sinestro Corps team. Not super cheesey, but bad enough.

Yes, 300 points allows all figures, cards, etc. Keep in mind we don't play BFC's. Hope to see you there.
I would have to say the Illuminati is pretty cheesey. I miss BFCs, the players who would always build teams that abused modifiers would have trouble with isolation.
Starter set Mr. Fantastic is real cheddar.

Sure, Al...And Cosmic Spider-Man wielding Thor's hammer is perfectly acceptable, right?
Just be happy that Phil wasn't able to use feats with that damn Illuminati team. I love how he pulled it out and said "Oops, this is all I had with me to use. I guess I HAVE to play with the Illuminati!"
Agreed but I only play marvel characters with the hammer, you know the same universe thing.
I was surprised no one played the big cheddar BB Shazam.

This Thursday at Graham Crackers we will be playing a 450 point golden age "Couples Game" for Valentine's day. All figures on your team must be in pairs and part of a ROMANTICALLY LINKED comic book couple. Gay or Straight counts. Hook-ups count. Just so long as the characters have been linked to each other in the past ROMANTICALLY.

Thanks for the list you posted. That helped a lot for team-building. What was it for this week? 350 points with at least one politician? Golden Age?
I know it was 500 point with ONLY one ruler or politition on your team. Carey stated that there may be a surprise rule that may cause a coup on your team if you have more than one.
I am not 100% sure on Golden or Modern, but I think it is Golden age.

The game this week is 600 points modern age.
For any who are unfamiliar with terminology, that means you can't play with any sets that were made before the avengers set. (Basically you can only play with characters that have cards except for the LEGION or HELLBOY sets)
I know this week is 400 points, no-one over 6 range, no HSS anywhere on the dials, must have the foot symbol on their dial.
The only item I don't know is if it is medern or golden age.

Hopefully it is Modern Age, or I'll be looking through the bins on Friday to get more Golden age clixs for next time.
Thanks for keeping me on my toes guys. It is indeed Golden Age, Foot speed symbol only, Nobody can have a printed range over a 6, and they can HAVE hypersonic speed, but they just can't use it.
This week at Graham Crackers we are doing an old fashioned DRAFT. However, this is not a normal draft. Our Judge (Cary) will be bringing in every figure available from the two sets we voted to play with (Legacy and DC 75th) and we will each get to draft from the set a Unique, Vet, Experienced, and Rookie figures to play with. The first round is 400 points from the legacy set, the second round is 400 points from DC 75th, and the last round is both of your drafted teams combined for an 800 point game.
The good news? You don't have to bring anything but dice, action markers, etc. this week.
The bad news? We won't know until the time of the game who gets the first draft pick, second, third, and so on.
Bring your draft card and some back up decisions. This is going to be fun!
This Thursday is St. Patrick's Day! It would normally be a sealed tournament right after a release, but since our judge is very Irish (I mean, come on, his HCRealms screen name is Irish Blade) he will not allow us to NOT play our annual St. Patrick's day game. So, since it is 3/17 our point total is 317 points golden age. However, all characters must be wearing mostly green.
NOTE: They must be WEARING mostly green...no green skin characters allowed unless they meet the first stipulation.

What if my team is only 2 points over, will I be allowed to play this? Or is this a stead fast rule on builds 317 point value.

Next week is 500-point Bizarro Wolrd game with all characters starting at the end of their dials and taking damage clicks towards the green line. Don't know whether or not this is a Golden Age or Modern Age tournament, though.
Looking over the new clix in GSX for possible candidates, I'm thinking Jugs would be fine, as he has the all-day break-away trait, move-and-attack powers his whole dial, and not a single click with attack lower than a nine. Might have to give him a try. Nemesis is also looking like a good contender, though he only leaves 100 points for supporting characters. The 100-pt. Frost Giant also looks good as he can immediately make use of his spear throw power with a 12 AV and 5 Damage! Hard to beat that!

Hey props to me for finally finding the thread. What is this Thursday's game?
I think Carey (the judge) said it was going to be a 400 pts GSX floor (so at least 200 pts from GSX). I don't remember the total build, but I am fairly certain half of it would have to be from GSX.
Then again, I could be making this up. I played at 3 different venues this week so it is kinda hazy. I know for a fact the other two are not playing a floor tournament, which is why I am inclined to say Graham Cracker's is.
Rowdy is correct. This week is 400 point GSX floor. At least 200 points of your team needs to come from GSX. Golden age for everything else, though.
This coming week at Graham Crackers Napervile (4/15/2011) we are playing a 500 point game with only one restriction. No Colossals. Something to keep in mind, though. This is tax day and Cary will have special stipulations based on that premise. That is all I can tell you so I have no advice as to how to prepare for this. Interpret it however you may...

You guys know what you are playing tomorrow? I'm currently planning on coming down since I'm not working.
Sorry, Rowdy. I forgot to post stips. Here you go:
600 point game. Golden Age. Every character on your team must have died and been resurrected in comics at some point. Please note that this has to relate to the SPECIFIC CHARACTER that you're using. If you're using ultimate cyclops, ultimate cyclops has to have died and come back. you can't play ultimate cyclops and say that the 616 universe version died and came back. Also, this does not cover characters like Winter Soldier or others that have been retconned to have never actually died or have "Thought" to have been dead.

Ok, so I couldn't make it out tonight. You have been spared from my warrior-themed team of :
Valkyrie (x2)
Wolverine & Colossus duo
Wolverine (Death)
Balder
Psylocke LE
All with Warbound feat - 594 points.
The move I was hoping to pull off was using Psylocke's MC on Wolverine for continuous attacks every turn. Another time, then.
Back-up team was just to bring the Anti-Monitor.

What was it for this week? I know it is Asguard, but I'm not 100% sure from there. I thought is was Modern and nothing before HoT set, including objects. Can't remember the point total either.
The game this Thursday is 500 points and every character on your team has to have either the Asgardian or Deity keyword. The only other restriction is that you can't use the "Inside Information" feat since it would be pretty ridiculous in this scenario.

Just a small correction to that. Cary (The Judge) pairs newer players up with ME or himself usually to help teach and guide where needed.
By the way, this week's game is 500 points and everybody must have either the WARRIOR or SOLDIER keyword in honor of memorial day. All sets are allowed.
This coming Thursday (6/9/2011) we are playing a 600 point golden age game to honor Father's day. You have to have to play with nothing but Fathers and their kids. You can have multiple children assigned to a father, but those children cannot be duplicates of any other characters on your team unless you are playing two of the father also. (It's basically father/child combos with a highlander rule)
Some examples that are ok:
Magneto and Quicksilver and/or Scarlet Witch
Corsair and Cycolps and/or Havok and/or Vulcan
Pa Kent pog and Superman
Some examples that are NOT OK:
Hank Pym and Ultron
Magneto and two Quicksilvers
Ultron and Vision
If you have any questions that I didn't cover please post here or PM me or Cary (Irishblade)
Just to clarrify, does every father have to have at least one kid or can I have fathers without their kids? This can be interpreted either way.

You would have to message Cary to be 100% sure, but I do believe that everybody you play with has to be part of at least a pair. So, if you're playing a father, he has to have at least one child accompanying him. However, you can play with one father who has multiple children like my "Summers" family example.

I considered playing a team very similar to yours, but from what I gleaned from my research, I learned that Genis and Phyla are not true offspring of Captain Marvel, but grown from his genetic material - kind of like X-23 from Wolverine. So, I dropped this team and made a new one consisting of Odin, Loki, WOS Spider-Man (red), and Uncle Ben. So, did you manage to capture anyone during the game?
He ended round 2 by capturing Odin.

If it's like it was last time we ran this scenario, you will gain powers in addition to whatever the characters have going on already.
Next Thursday, June 30th, is "Sentinels Attack".
Everyone versus Cary, Rob & Phil. They will each play a 2000 point team of Sentinels (6000 total). Each other player will bring a 500 point team to combine to face them.
Victory points are awarded for damage given to the Sentinel team, but Cary expressly stated that players can attack other non-Sentinel teams. He also stated that the other teams are not friendly towards each other (i.e.: Prof-X can not shoot through other teams.).
His initial indication was that there would be 5 actions, but said this may change.
I am hoping that if our 500-point teams aren't friendly that the sentinel teams also aren't friendly, otherwise the Mach V Toys R Us ones will just wipe everyone out with the free attack power after one hits.

At 800 points you have to build for three times the 300 requirements. This means 6 figures for non-generic keywords and 9 for generic keywords.

what he said
Well, I seem to have drawn the short straw this week and it looks like I won't be able to make it. Shame, I was looking forward to busting out an Avengers team.
I am going to be very disappointed if I see all SHIELD and Avenger teams with Quasar on the roster.
I am going to be very disappointed if I see all SHIELD and Avenger teams with Quasar on the roster.
Amen!!! I know one person who has said they wanted to play an Avengers team this week.
There is another team ability that I have never played before that I am looking forward to playing for the first time! And Quasar is not involved.
My team has absolutely nothing to do with Quasar.
I am playing him tonight in Elgin. But the game is only 400pts. I don't expect to win just playing fun to consider him played.
Quasar Protected
SHIELD Agent
Shield Specialist
Nick Fury LMD
That being said, I am going to be playing Black Panther tomorrow. I waited a while to be able to play a modern age one.

Was it Jonna? She says she's going to play an Avengers team with Quasar on it. Guess you're all just going to be disappointed in her, I guess.

It was her who told me she was playing Avengers, but she didn't say anything about Quasar. Not going to complain after the two sealed nights I had last week (Maelstrom at Graham Crackers & Quasar at Got Comics).
I can't complain as Graham Crackers has been great to me chase wise. I believe I'm ready for Quasar Regardless. Black Panther stole the Power Cosmic from Silver Surfer in the New Fantasic Four Comic and I believe history could repeat itself.

It's been a month or more since I made it out, last, so I have no idea, either. Not that I can make it out this week, either... :(
On Midwest games Cary posted that it was going to be 1,000 points with 5 actions and no other stipulations.
1,000? Good lord! My body is ready.

That is unfortunate.
For those of you curious about next week's stipulations here they are:
Back to School!
-300 points
-Characters possessing the "kid" or "teen" keyword are half cost. (IE Bart Allen goes from being 84 points to being only 42 points)
-Professors and Teachers might get some kind of special bonus. (The bonus may have been explicitly stated, I'm not sure.)
Modern, Gold or Silver age? feats or no?
Eventhough the Teen New Mutants and Teen Teen Titans don't have a teen keyword would they be considered teens. The rookie ms marvel doesn't have a teen keyword.
Feanor224
08/22/2011, 22:50
Carey did not specify on these finer points. However, typically we play Modern Age games with Feats allowed. Usually Cary will say NO Feats or Golden Age if he has something specific in mind.
Feanor224
08/22/2011, 22:55
And yes, the main idea here is for the figure to specifically either have the "Teen" or "Kid" keyword. Cary will sometimes grant exceptions if you can justify that a character fits the theme in the comics world. Teen Titans and Teen New Mutants should, in theory, be exactly fine. However, if you are playing adult versions of these characters from the GSX set, for example, that probably won't work.
I can't see any situation in which Ms. Marvel would be considered a teen.

08/22/2011, 23:07
For this week's tournament:
Golden Age - 300 pts - 3 actions.
Figures with the TEEN or KID "KEYWORD" (yes - I'm being a little more specific with this than I normally am) count as HALF POINTS (round UP)
Professors and Teachers will get special BONUSES to deal with all these crazy students.
For a Professor or Teacher - if it isn't common knowledge (something I'm familiar with) - then you'd better bring some "proof".
Some of the ones I know -
Prof X
Ray Palmer (the Atom from DC)
Banshee
Emma Frost
Huntress
Dr. Curtis Connors (the Lizard)
Feel free to post others - as well as when/where they were a teacher/professor.

Yes, Peter Parker was a school teacher for around two years (comic book time) during JMS's run on the title.
Plan to be there this week (finally)! It's been at least a month since my last outing, so I'm really looking forward to it. As long as the fates don't conspire against me, I will be there...

I don't think I even have 200 points worth of the Cap set, yet! Will plan on being there the following week, though, and by then I should be fully loaded with Cap figures - just in time to miss out on the new hotness!
I think next week might be the Superman sealed, right? I mean according to most reports the set is supposed to come out tomorrow (the 14th) so I assume next week will be the usual sealed booster buy in.

For this week...if I were to use older Hydra figs with no cards but still the TA, would that be valid for a themed team? Most of the group will have cards..but I have a couple that don't for this particular team.

Theme teams are based off of keywords and not team abilities. If it has the team ability it MORE THAN LIKELY has the keyword as well. I would look up the figure(s) in the units section to be sure, though.

These are old Hydra figs. They don't have cards or keywords. That's wha I meant. Sorry. Lol. I was just askin if I could get a pass on it. They don't technically have a listed "keyword" anywhere but I was curious if it would be ok to consider them so.

Like the Infinity Challenge Operative and Medic? They both actually do have the HYDRA keyword. Like Rob said, check the units section.

They technically DO have Keywords.
Wizkids put out a list of all the old figs and the Keywords that they were supposed to have. If you have a program like BattlePlanner or you are using the Units Section here on HCRealms, they have already downloaded all that info onto the figures for you.
Enjoy.

It's not a sealed. Apparently I was mistaken in my belief that the new set had come out.
So here's what's really going on:
-330 Points
-Your team must either:
A) All have the "Scientist" keyword.
Or
B) Have at least one archer. (Hawkeye, Green Arrow etc)

BTW, we usually have a good turnout these days. How's about we do an old-style partner battle (battle royale?) again at some point? We don't necessarily have to do boosters and drafts, just random pairings with other players and have two-on-two battles? That would be fun and a nice change of pace. Not sure how we'd do prizes, but we could do an event like this when there aren't any major prizes on the line. I can bring in some of my older 4-player laminated maps if we want to each start on our own side, too.

I've played at your guys' venue a few times so I have no shame in inviting all of you to a comic and gaming event on Sarturday, Ocober 1st in Elgin.
http://www.hcrealms.com/forum/showthread.php?p=5897167
The confirmed events are a Superman sealed and Superman battle royals. Superman OP kit will be used as prize support. Admission to the event is $1. You are responsible for purchasing your boosters after that.
I am pushing for a constructed event, but our judge didn't seem interested. If we ran a constructed it would most likely be a 300 pt Modern Age tournament.
There is more info in the thread I linked to.
Wish I could come down and play with you guys more often but I've been working most Thursday nights.

Next week is the annual "Destroy All Monsters" match - something done every year around Halloween. Bring a 500-point army with an additional 200-point reserve army. depending on how many people show up, you'll play either 500 or 700 points. Cary will be bringing in the Mage Knight Apocalypse Dragon, Horrowclix Chthulu, Marvel Fin Fang Foom, and possibly some other large colossals and take on everyone. Plan on a very looooong game. Not sure if this will be run like past years, but there are usually prizes given out for various accomplishments, such as:
-Most damage dealt in a single attack
-Most damage dealt, overall
-Getting any monster dial to a KO point
-Killing the monsters
Typically, the brave people get killed quickly and the cowards win the prizes! ;)

Next week we are doing a sort of Thanksgiving theme. Your team will be made up of part villains (250 pts.) and part heroes (250 pts.) to simulate two sides coming together. I don't think the exact details were nailed down, yet, but each round there will be some exchanging going on between you and your opponent. Whether you do the giving or the choosing remains to be seen. Just plan on losing a character and gaining a new one each round. This could take on several different formats:
- Exchange characters of highest point values.
- Exchange characters of lowest point values.
- Give one of your own choosing.
- Take one of your own choosing.
In summary, things are bound to go better for you if you have a well-balanced team without dominant tent-pole characters.
No gaming next week due to the Thanksgiving holiday so enjoy your turkey day feast and meet us back at the shop for clix when we resume on December 1st!
And the rules for that game?
WINTER IS COMING!
-400 points
-All of your characters must have BLUE (both light and dark) powers (ie. Shape Change, PC, Incap, Mind Control, etc.). WHITE "special" powers are also accepted as long as you also have a blue power of some kind on your dial. Only those powers will work! Old man winter is kind of a jerk like that. (I may be wrong about this. I seem to recall this being said, but I may be remembering it wrong.)
See you in two weeks!

Did Cary say that only those colors would work, or just that the characters needed to have those colors present? I don't remember, either.
Cary, what about other printed powers on the dial, like Indomitable, Transporter, Duo, Traits, etc. Will those work or not? I hope so.
If no other powers besides white powers or blue powers will be working, it will be nice to see how a game with almost no damage reducers or Outwit will play out.

Alrighty then. Tomorrow night will be pretty interesting.
I gotta make it out to a game here sometime in the near future, but that's just too many "It might work/it might not work" powers in one game. If I were to bring a team, my luck would be that half of my crap wouldn't work or I would get told that it wasn't a theme team because it did/didn't have "X" on it. Maybe when the rules of the week are a little more straightforward.
