View Full Version : Nightcrawler Teams

Anyone have some good 300/400 pt teams focused around Nightcrawler, Vision, Elektra, Titania and Nick Fury. I have always wanted to use them, but can't find a suitable/great team for them.
Anyone have some good teams that they can post using any of these Uniques?
Nightcrawler works well with a tker. Throw him up to the enemy, then smack 'em and run away. Moondragon or Jean Grey work pretty well for that. I have been trying to use him with otherwise ranged-combat teams, to smack the enemy hiding in stealth while the rangers blast everyone else. It requires a good bit of tactics though, and I was slaughtered the first time I tried it, but won the second time. I posted one marvel 300 pt team already, but I would suggest something like
U Nightcrawler 83
R Jean Grey 31
V Bullseye 43
V Bullseye 43
200 pts, not very mobile (except for nightcrawler) but nasty
For more points, you could add
V Doombot 38
E Doombot 33
R Black Panther 27
298 pts, much more mobile, and you can take advantage of the sinister syndicate ability even more. You could also downgrade both doombots to rookies and add a veteran AIM Medic if you like taking your medicine. On 400 pt and larger teams I think Nightcrawler becomes an afterthought/harrasser to your main strategy rather than the core of it.
Anyway, the strategy, if I didn't make it clear, is to aggressively defend some turf near enough his guys that nightcrawler can be tk'ed in and smack them. Then your opponent either has to come out of his shell to hit NC, and face bullseyes retribution, or just sit there and hope you roll a critical miss with nightcrawler. You could also try this with Nightcrawler, nick fury, and some shield guys (mandroid armors, Clay quartermain, etc). If you find another useful strategy for Nightcrawler in 200-300 pts, please share! I haven't had much sucess in tournaments with anything besides close combat/taxi teams myself, and am trying to broaden my horizons.
I had a lot of luck using him to clean up on a TK throw squad.
R. Vulture
R. Jean Grey
E. Wasp
E. Hercules
U. Spiral
U. Nightcrawler
leaves you 15 points for a medic, or a upgrade
Theory: Fly Jean and Herc up first round and TK Herc in to
enemy lines - if you go 2nd, you can often get a hit off.
Then throw Spiral in two rounds later. Herc pushes. Bring wasp up to pull the wounded Herc out, repeat.
Nighcrawler helps pick off the wounded and runs interference for the Black Panthers out there.
Team actually works really well. Nightcrawler isin't the focus, but he's the team's MVP after you play it a few times.

I've used the following team in two tournaments. The first one, I didn't do so well, going 1-2, but I was learning the team and did some dumb things. In the second tournament, I came in second and lost my only game due to another dumb move.
Nightcrawler (U) 83
Jean Grey (R) 31
Cyclops (E) 68
AIM Medic (V) 17
Total=199
I know the AIM Medic goes against my theme, but it's the best medic I think and I need the higher attack value. Someone asked why I used Jean instead of a Rookie Mandroid Armor. The reason is so I can use the X-Men ability to heal Nightcrawler, who is hard for any medic to hit. Jean or Scott then have much easier to hit defenses.
Use Jean to TK Nightcrawler out to do his "drive by" attacks, or TK Cyclops out to hit someone with RCE. I've discovered painfully, that the multiple HSS attacks aren't worth it (I can never hit more than twice anyway) and that it is very dangerous to leave Nightcrawler standing next to anyone (that's how I lost him every time). Don't let him get trapped (the other way I lost) and Nightcrawler can be a real headache for your opponent. In the last tournament, I was very lucky with Super Senses rolls, making 5 total in the 3 matches; they saved me on several occasions. I took out a pretty standard Firelord (R) team with this team indoors. I went first, TKed Nightcrawler, who ran up & punched Medic knocking out healing and ran away. Wasp carried Firelord into range of Nightcrawler, fortunately Firelord missed. I pushed Jean to TK Cyclops within range and Cyclops hit Firelord for 4. It was pretty much over for my opponent then.

here is a 400 pointer Ive had lots of success with.
V Wasp
V Vulture
V Bullseye
V Logan
V SHield Sniper
V Shield Medic
E White Queen
E Black Cat
U Nightcrawler
393/400
Basically use the Taxis to get White queen and logan into range. Bullseye ahs great range, so he can usually get into position by himself.
Nightcrawler can stand on his own, use him to Hypersonic around the field, hitting and getting safely out of range. Try not to push him, and try to use him whenever he clears for a good hit and run attack.
Logan is the big Close combat guy, flurry and blades is deadly, but a single BCF attack is a scary thing too.
White queen brings to the table leadership, and Mind control. A starting 10 attack gives you a good chance to take control of a solid figure on his team and use it against him. Use Black cat for probability on the big rolls of 8 or higher. Mental blast will get through for full damage on anyone she can see at range that isnt worth mind controlling, or over 100 points and you dont want to take the click for the strain.
Shield medic and shield sniper form up for ranged combat with a boost. Bullseye can link up here for big damage, black cat can mimick shield, so you could light someone up on one turn.
Black cat can mimick avengers free move as well to stay in position for PC.
Ive fielded this team about 8 times, and the most I lost was 2 figures, Bullseye and the Shield sniper. Nightcrawler only took 2 damage, 1 for pushing to take out an opposing figure, and 1 on a hit that my supersenses failed. He had to roll a 10 to get that hit, so I guess he earned that one.
This team, with the avenger free move, and white queen's leadership, give you great flexibility on your actions for your turn. Mind controlling the other guy's figures is always fun, especially when you make them push with it, and you can frustrate the heck out of them with Nightie's hit and run hypersonic attacks.
nightcrawler is highly overestimated. Nightcrawler works best when he is taxied around. In addition, he has to be supported with a perplex fig for maximun damage.
The trick of using nightcrawler is not to taxi him and drop him for hypersonic attack but rather to use hypersonic attack first then taxi him to safety. Be sure not to build a team around him.
Pardon my langauge.

Only if you use the STANDSTILL Hypersonic attack. I usually only use that in cases where I can get probably at least 3 hits in with the increasing defense.
He has 14 movement. Just use the movement to run up, hit for 2 and get back to a safe spot.
You can build a team around just about anyone if you know what youre doing.
I think you havent seen Nightcrawler used to his fullest potential however, and that is what caused you to say that.
IMO, Nightcrawler is the best U in the set.
