According to this Comic-Con Press Release (http://www.comicsreporter.com/images/uploads/CCI_SD_Announcement_f.pdf), it looks like SDCC will remain SDCC for the forseeable future.

Personally, how much of a commitment is this really with the anticipated end of the world to occur in just over two years? LOL

No, seriously though, this is heopfully great news for everyone involved.

Thoughts?

This news pleases me. I wouldn't go if the con moved to, say, Anaheim.

I was not happy to hear this news. Comic-Con has allowed itself to grow far beyond the normally operating capacity of the San Diego Convention Center, and far from limiting its events/attendance is indeed expanding every year. The lines and crowds are ridiculous, as is the sometimes vicious and unsafe competition to buy exclusives and be in the right place at the right time (see the stabbing this year over a seat in Hall H). Also, the hotel situation is terrible. The convention sets aside rooms in blocks, but they don't become available until a few months beforehand and everyone in the universe is competing for the same few rooms.

Now, while I complain about San Diego I also don't really see a viable alternative; I just wish the situation were somehow better...

Probably better to plan ahead anyways. You know, just in case.;)

2013+ arrives? You're covered.
Everything comes to a screaching end in 2012? Moot point & you don't have to worry about the bill....

Anaheim is a craphole and doesn't offer the same things Downtown San Diego does. If you go to San Diego it's also like having a relaxed beach vacation, in Anaheim it would just make a like going to convention in Vegas or something.

San Diego will expand the convention center within the next five years and most of those problems will be fixed. A lot of them, however, are simply due to the fact that the convention has gotten a lot more popular in the last 3 years and more movies and TV shows are showing up (along with the dreaded Twilight fan *cringe*). Even the largest venue will still see long lines for popular panels, a crowed floor, exclusive lines, etc. I think that nerds waiting in line can be some of the rudest people around lol, and dangerous too as that guy that got stabbed in the face knows. I remember just peaking across a line of people waiting to buy exclusives to try and get a look at a booth they were blocking and get screamed at by some idiot that thought I wanted to cut in line for his precious toy.

As far as the hotel thing goes I would try not to stay around the convention center anyway. Those hotels are way overpriced at convention time. There are plenty of places you can stay for cheaper and take the trolley or a bus down there. I always did that when I lived there.
