View Full Version : Traders ignoring trade threads w/ multiple posts & views?

After posting multiple trade threads here over the years I have noticed an odd trend. If I have a trade thread that has a good amount of views and replies it tends to be overlooked, but if I post a new trade thread with all of the same things I will get at least a few offers. I tried creating an ongoing trade thread, but found that I only received a few offers if any once it was up for a week or more and had two pages of replies and bumps. Do people just skip the threads with multiple posts because they think that all of the good stuff is already gone? Do people only look at it once and disregard it when it comes up again? I update my thread with new figures on a regular basis, so it is different with each bump. What does everyone else do when it comes to trade threads?

It would be nice & neat if everyone edited their own threads (especially adding and SUBTRACTING items that are gone).
Having said that , the other issue may depend on the title of the thread- Ones that have previous set lead in (ie Hammer of Thor - as newest is WOS , or a particular piece/chase headline will spark interest - however when the piece is gone - the rest of the items get the thread buried and forgotten.

I just think people have a been there/done that mentality. After they have seen the thread, I believe that they pass it over on subsequent visits. I try to keep updating the same thread, but after a week it seems to die down after that. Bumping it makes the thread more convoluted
So I'll just close the thread and post a new one. I hate to do this, but I am constantly updateing my thread as I acquire pieces often and in spurts.
It would be cool if we had some type of tag to show that the thread has been updated, when members are looking through the thread titles. Like a Bright Red 'Updated" box.

Honestly, I do tend to skip threads that have a significant number of replies, because in the past I've seen so many that were just bumped by the OP without any new additions. Too many of them were a waste of my time.

Honestly, I just look at what someone has listed for wants in their threads. I don't have a tonne of extra pieces to work with (and would only consider trading a few of my personal collection at the moment), so if there's nothing there I really don't feel like wasting someone's time. I've found that while the "feel free to make an offer" is posted, it rarely applies. I'm on the flipside where I don't mind trading for something I have if it increases the chance of getting something else that I want (or might use for a mod).

If there are 30+ replies on a thread i generally wont even bother to go and read it. I understand what your saying about adding new figs, but for the most part i don't look because if there are that many replies the figs that I'm looking for have probably already been tentatively spoken for. There are however a scattered time where i will read a thread like it bored though. But for the most part i don't at all.
Its not that I'm complaining mind you, but I for one have wished I could search all HW lists forgoing the threads.

I understand what you're saying. I would agree with you, if not for the fact the H/W and Units section are both firewalled at work (where I do most of my wheeling and dealing).
Of course, I'd take not being able to view them at work if it meant people kept an accurate list of H/W (ahem...myself included).
Most often I'm looking for only a few select pieces.
If I don't see them listed as haves? I just move on.
But I also tend to just read a persons wants (both listed & in the H/W button).
I know what I've got to offer. If I don't have _____? I'm not going to waste someones time with a random offer.
And yes, if a thread has piles of replies? Especially recent ones? I'll tend to skip it. Because;
.I assume what I'm seeking is already gone.
.I could be completing a trade in the time it takes for people to sift through all the previous offers.
.I've seen all kinds of threads that aren't up to date, or are just the OP bumping a list of stuff I don't want/have.

Massive replies can also signal that the person has been difficult to trade with.
And honestly, this place has become a dog eat dog trade place. A lot people seem to as much above and beyond as they can get for their figures. It used to be an easy and smooth place to trade. Now, if you aren't offering organs, limbs, and future generations it is almost impossible to get a fair trade.
I almost think its better to seel off my extras and then buy what I need.

In my experience I've found much more success in just posting a new thread every so often that there's a big change in my wants. Also, I usually post what I like to call "clixhunter/headhunter" threads where I post my most top want that I want the quickest and will stress that I'm only looking for offers of those sort. I can't give credit of success to my last zombie thread though, as I've only gotten them through surfing other users' threads. However, threads I've posted in the past like "Bagman for Rulk" usually are closed within the hour because someone looking to make that exact deal saw it. However, I don't do this often, mainly to avoid cluttering up the board. I hardly ever have luck with just posting a "mainstay" thread. I do look into them though, as I generally go through every thread I see or at least most of them unless I remember a specific user's H/W and not seeing any deals that I like.

While I don't have near as much iTrader as you do, I've noticed this as well. I had one guy offer me Doppelganger (finally!), but he wanted both Red Hulk and Spider-Hulk for him. He didn't reply after I practically laughed in his face considering either of the two figures would be an even trade for him. Sadly, he had really high iTrader, so I don't know if he's just recently tried to rip people off or if he's been able to do it as many times as he's traded, but regardless, offers like that are just ridiculous. I'm actually shocked at how much easier it is to trade for the chases I want than it is to get the Super Rares I want.

I usually know who that person may be.
I am a fan of people who are willing to change their trade thread when a new set comes out.

I usually do a search for a figure I want, or have, then it narrows the search down and I can just look at the threads brought up.

I agree. Though I did have some decent trades here recently. Of course, I did have some rather stupid offers as well. :cheeky:
If I see a sale or trade thread with a lot of replies, I tend to pass it by. Usually that means anything I would have wanted is probably gone. The exception is if I see that the last post is by the person who has the thread. Sometimes it's just a normal "bump"...but sometimes it's a "I just added _______ (figure that I really want)".

I agree. That seems to have become the norm around here, and that is unfortunate. People seem to either want to trade their stuff for 2,3 or 4x as much as it's 'worth', or they want your high end stuff for 1/2 it's 'worth'.
I recently traded off 6 of my Chase figures to get the WoS stuff that I wanted. I was getting some low ball ridiculous offers, so I finally had to jut straight up put in my thread a 'value' next to each figure I wanted, and each figure I was trading. All based on the most recent completed E-Bay listings.
I kept my expectations realistic, and I believe that every trade I made, was 'fair', and in fact most were probably slightly in favor of the people I traded with. But since WoS was the new 'hotness' (and I wanted it really badly) that was acceptable in my mind.
As to Azraels OP, I'll look through any trade thread to see what's going on. I don't care if it's brand new, or had 7,000 views. Especially if it's an established regular member that I recognize.

Don't get me wrong, I have had some great deals too. I enjoy negotiating and I don't mind extending myself by giving up more for something I want. I also won't reject an offer in my favor. But it's ridiculous when you offer people things on their wanty list, only to have them reject your offer because they want more or to have some noob jerk you around all afternoon asking for certain figures to be included in a deal, having you accomodate him, only to have him say that he wouldn't play the figures he asked for so he's declining the trade.
Then there's people taking days to repond to offers and pm's, if they even do, when you know they have read them and have been on, has just made trading here a sour experience.

So, from everyone's replies it looks like it is best to start a new trade thread every so often to get maximum exposure and more offers. That is good to know.

Honestly, probably once a week or so, or when you have major updates.

Yes and no. Numerous replies just mean that numerous people have pmed the person or the person is bumping their thread. Honestly, if I were to receive 10 trade offers, 8 of them are very lowball ones or are very one sided in the other person's favor. Even when I get an offer like that I almost always try to look at the other person's trade thread or H/W list (which some times doesn't exist or both don't match) and try to negotiate a fair deal. Most times if you get an offer like that from the beginning they don't want a fair deal, but it doesn't hurt to try. I actually hate getting offers from people who do not have a trade or H/W list because it makes negotiating a deal impossible.
As for it being dog eat dog, there are some people like that. I have run into few recently, but there still seem to be some reasonable traders here. I have no problem with people wanting what their figures are worth in trade, but when they start adding in additional value because it is a playable or favorite figure I generally stop any negotiating.

Yeah lol, i had numerous offers of vapor, spot ad mysterio for my chase susan and they claim it is a fair trade since its 3 Srs from a new set for a chase from the old set.
