How appropriate is it to be IM'd during an auction? Someone sent me a message saying he was not going to bid on some things that it looked like I really wanted, then proceeded to run the price up with some last minute bids. I won them anyways, (did not regard the message in the least) but paid for it.

Just thought it was funny that someone would try, (what appeared to me to be), some shenanigans. This happen often?

Was that here or on E-Bay?

Wow. I'd say that's tantamount 'shill' bidding on E-Bay.

Contact a mod with the users name, and if you saved the PMs, forward those on..............I'd be interested to know the name of the person too, so if you wouldn't mind sending me a PM too.

What's "shill bidding"?

isn't that where someone else is there to drive up interest by feigning interest...or bidding more to raise the price with no intention of buying yourself.

It seemed like they were trying to get you off guard so they would win them last minute at a lower price :-/

What's "shill bidding"?

When someone (either the seller themselves with a duplicate account, or a friend of theirs) bids on the item that is for sale, so that the final price is higher. They never intend to actually win it, just drive the price up.

This was definitely NOT the case. I have confidence in the auction holder. Just had the impression that he was trying to get me off guard.

No, I didn't think it would be the case here on the 'Realms, but I've 'seen' it on E-Bay. I can't prove it, but I've bid on items before, then had a 'new' E-Bayer with 0 Feedback outbid me. The next day (or 2) I've had the seller(s) contact me to say that either their highest 'bidder' backed out, or that they just happen to have a 'duplicate' that they'd be willing to sell me for my highest bid. :cheeky: When that happens, I don't even bother to respond.

I have some other choice words I'd use to describe it myself, but yeah.
