Well, I believe afew people have been saying that Ultimate Rhino will be in the next set (how they'd get that info on something so far away I do not know) but one of those people who said it was Al "Super Rhino" so I'll believe him. Toss that into your rumor list!:D

The head designer of the Marvel Heroclix sets said that Rhino was one of his favorite villains, and that he'd be in a set soon, so that's probably where he got it from. The interview was an old one...about 3-4 months ago maybe...

There looks to have been one character in each set that has probability control, ( I.C.-Scarlet Witch, C.T.-Black Cat, X.P.-Destiny) so there will probably be one in the next expansion. So I think it will be Longshot. Heck, the made Mojo, why not?:cool:

Longshot would definitely be cool. I wish he and Dazzler would come around more often. They're just kind've forgotten, and with Psylocke turned into the 80's reject she is, that whole era of the x-men is practically missing. I hope Silvestri's new run plays on his original.

And yeah, we definitely need a new Cap...but the Power Pack?

With Mojo and Spiral out already, you would think Longshot and Dazzler wouldn't be too far behind.

A new Cap would be way cool. I kinda liked him when he had that energy shield he could turn into a weapon, (especially when he shoved it down Ultron's throat.) But if they do a Cap, they deffinently need to do a Zemo as an Arch-Enemy.

Also, Hypersonic speed was introduced to Marvel via Nightcrawler. Maybe they would do more characters with this power, like a new Quicksilver or a Photon (she can fly at the speed of light after all.):cool:

With the next Marvel set likely to be at the tail end of this year (DC expansion in June/July, Indyclix in Sept?) the a lot depends on whether any movies will be hitting the screen around Christmas. Also WK will need to set a theme for the set which will appeal to the masses and which in turn will account for at least a third of the figures.

Since FF and X-men have been done that leaves the Avengers and Spider-Man as the really big options. And since the Avengers roster is already pretty full, and lots of Spidey's best foes are still to see light I know what I'd put my money on. When does SM2 come out?

So, I don't have any concrete rumours but I'm leaning towards appearances by:

Well,

I think we'd all agree that if Wizkids want to keep us happy the next set will be Spiderman-based with a smattering of gap-fillers. I think the U Green Goblin in Xplosion being the Ultimate variety pretty much confirms this move, and I'd say we'll get a nice surprise of something obvious like:

1. Ben (Spidey), Maestro (Hulk), Patch? (wolverine), Elektra (painted blue this time? Orange? Sheesh...)

2. Venom, Ghost Rider, Namor, Carnage, Green Goblin, Cardiac (weak low level), Firestar, Stix and Stone?, Elektro, Mysterio, and some of the small guys like Rhino, Knockout, Tarantula, Kane, etc.

3. Fillers like: SILVER SURFER (please god), Punisher, Angel, Archangel, Dazzler and Longshot, forge and/or Banshee, Morbius, Cloak and Dagger?, Lilandra, Zemo, and maybe even Aunt May!

Generics anyone? Morlocks? Mutates? Genoshan magistrates and medics? Multiple men?

Well I remember JonL saying in an interview that he'd love to do Power Man and Iron Fist. They could definitely go on the rumored list.

Surely Namor must be in the next set. The lack of Defenders is ridiculous. Okay, I know we get a Beast and an Iceman, but that's still only 4. Plenty more to choose from:
Nighthawk, Hellcat, Valkyrie, Gargoyle, Dr. Druid and of course Silver Surfer.

I'd guess Venom next. He's one of the most wanted Spidey-related fig's (will he have a version in Spidey team? Doubt it)

The combo would be great. But like other sets you will see some spider enimies, xmen and hopefully a nex Cap.
The generics I would like to see are Navy seals, Comandos, mercs etc...

The Power Pack seems like a weird rumor. Not that they'd be unwelcome, but we're only getting about 34-35 new characters with each set, ignoring generics. Why would they use up 4 (3? 5? how the hell many are there?) precious spaces on a team that has little or no relevance to Marvel's current output? Don't get me wrong, I LOVE the more obscure characters, but comitting to a whole team of them seems very far-fetched.

Well, here's my guesses:

Longshot-We got Mojo and Spiral, plus he's a PCed. Personaly, I was very suprised he wasn't in Xplosion.

Antman-He and Yellowjacket both had LEs and YJ got produced. Plus, it let's them throw another Fantastic Four member in (Not Pym, Scott Lang, the current one).

Angel-Everyone else already covered him.

Baron Zemo-His masked mug has been in every set so far and he's MIA. And as someone else said, he'd fit as a new Cap's AE

Venom-Venom is still one of Spidey's most popular villians. IIRC, he placed 3rd or 4th on in a poll on the Marvel website on what villian you want to see in the first Spider-Man movie. (Green Goblin was 1st, Doc Octopus was 2nd, and Lizard was 3rd or 4th). BTW, if we see Venom, Carnage will most likely be his AE.

Silver Surfer, Namor-More Defenders please. Personaly, I think the Surfer is a little more likely then Namor.

Expect one Hulk, Elektra, Wolverine, and Daredevil in every set, too. I wish I could shoot the moron who came up with that idea.

Hulk and Spidey are the only ones who don't get old with the, "put me in every set", idea. Hulk has had many incarnations, looks, and powers. Spidey is the same. Wolverine is BCF, wow, BCF again...wow.

Daredevil and Elektra are some of my all time most boring Marvel characters. Just my opinion, but I never saw why they were popular.

Corpse, I do agree with the thoughts of a spider-man, hulk, and a wolverine in each expansion, but I swear if I see another incarnation of elektra I am going to be very, very, very dissapointed with Wiz Kids. Also Daredevil, how much can you change him from time to time, if you are going to make a new one, at least make it a unique, so I don't have to pull 20 of him. Daredevil also has 2 other costumes then just straight red, use one. Personally I would like to see the original Yellow costume. I feel Wiz Kids is making one of these figs per set is because they are probably the most well know of all the heroes to the general public (Daredevil and Elektra only because of a movie that came out with them in it.)

Wiz Kids if there is one thing you do in the next expansion, just make sure that it is keeping Elektra out of it. Daredevil will be ok as long as he is a unique with a different costume.

I dowbt the next set will be Spidey related. A spidey set won't be released untill the movie sequel hits theaters in may of 2004. A supervillian set would be nice but I think the only safe prediction is that the next set will not be Spidey related.

My guess is it will be a Spiderman based set. There aren't too many longtime Avengers left to really sell a set. The Black Knight is a pretty big omission considering how long he has been involved with the team, and Captain Marvel/Photon and Namor have certainly done their time.A Hank Pym Yellowjacket/Ant man/Goliath would be better represented outside his current LE only status. You could certainly make arguements for several other characters, but there aren't many others who were really around for a long time.

I don't think there are enough headlining Defenders that they will focus a set on them. It just doesn't have enough marketing power. That said, I would love to see a set based on them, Alpha Flight, and the Invaders.

Spiderman has a ton of long time villains left unmade: The original Green Goblin, Kraven, Mysterio, the Lizard and Venom to name the big ones, and plenty of smaller scale guys like the Shocker, Tarantula, Carrion, Wraith, Jack O Lantern, Rhino.... man that is just a few, some more obscure than others. We are running out of allies for him , though I've seen a few threads out there with some ideas. So due to the sheer number of "name" characters left in Spidey's world vs the Avengers or Defenders, my money is on Web Head. Good chance they may hold that set till his next movie comes out though.

I think Iron Fist and Powerman are locks for the Rumor list.
Add Absorbing man, Wonderman, Rhino, and Warbird (one of the few female characters with any notoriety left.) Firestar, Polaris fit there, too. Angel seems likely, as does Falcon, with his recent rejoining of the Avengers and expanded powers.

Greenlantern: Rob Liefieild (I'm pretty sure) owns the rights to Deadpool and Cable I think. I don't know when it happened but untill Marvel comes up with some money to buy it from him we wont be seeing a Deadpool clix anytime soon.

Unless your the kind of player who only uses big bruisers in heroclix ...there are uses for an Aunt May.

How about a Aunt
May that ... lets say ... cost 2 points. She has one click of life and has an affiliation of spiderman team. You've just used up some extra points in a character that can be a blocker, or used to tie up a character for a turn .. your using points that you had left over anyways.

C'mon ... who here wants to see a game where Aunt May ties up Ultron in time for her nephew Ptere to escape. :p

I just think that my second fav. villain...Magneto, obviously, needs to be made to strike fear into any single opponent.)

Enough with all the "extra" mutants until some of the other teams are filled out some more. I'd be happy with an Angel to fill out the original X-Men for now and save all those extra "Morlocks, Reavers, Horsemen, etc. etc.", fringe x-characters for more meaningful characters from other teams. I'm not agains the X-Men or anything, I think it will just be nicer to move on to characters found in other Marvel books. And again like in my thread above, if there are seriously only 2 more sets to come, do you really think Wizkids would waste all those slots to bring you Alpha Flight, or Power Pack, or Morlocks, sacrificing well known characters like Namor, Venom, Punisher, etc. that would then never be made? Unless Marvel pulled the carpet right from under Wizkids without any notice, I'd highly doubt it.

If your knowledge dates back to earlier Lee/Kirby FF stories you
would know the Inhumans are as connected to the FF as anyone

I'll bet you the way Wizkids handles these things when/if a Blackbolt
is created, you'll find a lil' blue 4 on his base.

As for Archangel, free movement from the only naughty mutant team
ability, for a naughty mutant connected with Apoc just makes sense.

If it is an avengers based set it should include more members of the MOE to even out the points or the numbers of members. So it would be likely to see:

Surely an obvious way of encapsulating a lot of classic characters would be a Secret Wars-oriented set: it gives you Spidey stuff, the Venom symbiote, Avengers, Madame Web and whole host of villains, some F4 (a way of gettting a classic Thing, or possibly a unique flame-off Johnny - or even a useful Invisible Woman), and my all-time favourite marvel villain, The Lizard in both R/E/V villain and Unique of the good ol' doc. Personally, I'd like to see a War Machine as well, but then I'm strange - ah the joy, of the Marvel Action hour!

Also, at UK GenCon this year, a WizKids demoer mentioned that the plan at that time was to have Aunt May (and Alfred, amongst others) as single-click civilian counters a la Crimson Skies mooks, as part of the map sets.

According to the WizKids panel at Sandy Eggo Comic-Con, which included Jordan W and Jon L, the new Marvel set is called Critical Mass and will feature cosmic characters. Put Silver Surfer on the Rumored list. Punisher will not be in this one, but is definitely coming up.

Wizkids certainly seem to be boing this with the sets, including Unique figs from both teh Ultimate line for Marvel and the Elseworlds stuff doe DC.

Eternity and Death are not even close to being playable in Heroclix. They would be 10,000 point figures that had 50 clicks and did 14 clicks of damage per shot, plus Impervious the entire dial and PC to reroll those missed Imp. rolls. Galactus is more likely, but as a high cost (800+) point figure.

I do hope that they go with a more cosmic theme, especially for the generics. I'm getting tired of seeing stuff like the SWAT guys that we saw last turn when there's a whole galaxy of alien races untapped.

Just remember though that the last DC set was supposedly "Cosmic-themed" as well, and some were disappointed with how few of the figures turned out to be cosmic. At least we know we're getting a Surfer. Hard to get more cosmic than that.

I think a good Wolvie unique would fit the feral, would be a bone claws wolverine with the bandana over his face. He could be cheaper, have Flurry and Blades, but less Regen, since at that point his healing factor was very taxed. No stealth and battle fury to reflect his berserker nature.

Angel should be rookie X-men basic taxi, with possibly RCE because of the bazooka he toted. Exp would be Defender, and Vet could be X-men with Support to represent his healing ability that he has recently gained. Apoc Archangel should be Unique.

And one other character that could have a multitude of different powers depending on the version would be Legion. That would open the door for AoA Weapon X, X-man, or Magneto as leader of the X-men. That would be an appropriately powered Magneto!

Cosmic Spidey would be cool. I would say it should be the version where he is not aware of his powers so that he is not too powerful. If it was the full strength version it would cost way too much.

Same thing with a Galactus. It would have to be a weakened hungry version just barely living in order to give the heroes a fighting chance.

In case any of you don't already know, if I'm not mistaken, the licensing agreement that Marvel signed with WizKids requires WizKids to include some form of the Hulk, Wolverine, Elektra, and Spiderman in each set. Why? They are obviously the most popular, but why would Marvel make them agree to that...?

If you're referring to the back of the Marvel package, that's the Ultimate Green Goblin, not The Gargoyle (although that's who I'd use if I were doing a mod :) )

I echo Noman's sentiments. If the set even comes close to this list, I'll be thrilled with it. The only thing I'm real skeptical of is the bit about Brood, Kree and Shi'ar all being in the set. Given how resistant they've been to "alien" generics so far (at most 2 per set) I'd be surprised if so many of the new set's generics are non-humans. Happy, but surprised.

I was going to pick out some highlights to mention, but there are just too many. This is a dream list for someone who grew up with late 70's and 80's Marvel.

Again, Boneyard, I hope you're filtering the credible sources from the loons. Because I'm anticipating this set more than ANY of the expansions this side of Clobberin' Time, mostly because I'm a huge FF fan. I was let down with the lack of FF-related 'Clix in CT (opposed to X-related 'Clix in Xplosion), but the hopes of Sub-Mariner, Molecule Man, Ronan the Accuser, Kree, Power Man and even Gladiator joining the Silver Surfer are awesome. I'd like Terrax, Nova and Air-Walker sometime, too.

Having another three or four Avengers is sweet, too (especially if Captain Marvel is Monica Rambeau)... not to mention more Avengers-related adversaries like Wrecker, Baron Zemo, Absorbing Man and Nebula.

I think this set looks pretty balanced, if the rumors pan out. I kinda hope there are only three or four Spidey-related 'Clix at the most, because I hear the next set following might be Spidey-related. And then those fans will have it made.

And what about Mole Man? Wasn't he a rumored dude?

I was just going off of the Boneyard post #188 which says "Captain Marvel/Photon." You know, name change via experience a la Invisible Girl/Invisible Woman and Boom Boom/Meltdown. Calling a 'Clix "Captain Marvel" could denote Mar-Vell, Genis-Vell or Monica Rambeau... but the only one who was officially made an Avenger (so far) is Monica.

I don't know if Boneyard's source made the distinction of which "Captain Marvel" it is rumored to be in Critical Mass. Maybe s/he said "Captain Marvel - the hot chick" or "the Avenger" or "Photon." Maybe there was no distinction. But if it's Monica then I'm very happy.

Looking over the rumored list, I'd say that Gamora and possibly Drax will not be included unless Adam Warlock is also included. With Drax it may not matter, but what use is there having Gamora without Adam? It'd be like having Pip without him. ::prepares for angry Gamora response::

The list Bonedog posted sounds very well put together and full of popular figures (Venom, Captain America, Wonder Man) full of slightly obscure power houses (The Destroyer armour, Drax the Destroyer) and some fan favouites. Me I'm glad to see Gladiator on the list. He should be amazing.

The list does seem to match the theme with lots of Cosmic Heroes in it and I hope it's true.

But the best part of the list seems to be it has lots of Team Members.

Avengers get Captain America, Wonder Man,Starfox, Photon, Namor (He might be a Beast and not have Avengers membership, but he'll see play in Avengers teams.) and Warbird.

Fantastic Four might get Namor, Power Man (I assume Luke Cage.) Surfer and some of the other Cosmics. (It's difficult to tell with the FF.)

I'd say Iron Fist, Silver Sable, Power Man and maybe Venom will be Team Spidey.

The Lethal Foes of Spidey get a big boost in this set with Rhino,Lizard,Electro, Mysterio,Shocker,Kraven the Hunter AND Venom. Sweet.

Defenders will field Surfer, Namor, Valkerie and Damion Hellstrom.

Baron Zemo, Moonstone, Wrecker, Absoarbing Man, Molecule Man will increase the Masters of Evil ranks.

All this and one or two X-Men(Angel, maybe some Shi'ar) and plenty of Unafiliated.

Yes this set looks different from Cosmic Justice in that, the boosters won't be crammed with annoying/useless characters.

What i find interesting is when we check the characters from the list and compare it to the statement that there are stronger characters than Surfer. Let us take the mightiest characters from the list: Drax, Molecule Man, Mephisto, Ronan, Brood Queen, Gladiator, Wonderman, Nebula and Absorbing Man. I think there are at least two who cand be made that they would stand a fight against Surfer.

Starfox could charm people into doing stuf, so he might have Mind Control.

He was charming and swarve so might have some Perplex or Enhancment. (like Psylock.)

In one issue of Captain Marvel he lifted a Window with TK, so he might have TK.

As an Eternal he's Stronger and Tougher then humans so Super Strength adn Toughness? Plus Eternal's are very hard to kill and might get some Regenerate.

Mephisto,Brood Queen,Drax the Destroyer,Ronan the Accusor, Gladiator,Nebula,Molecule Man have all fought and done well against the Surfer at various times.

The Destroyer armour once killed Thor, so he's got enough power to fight the Surfer.

DYK:The Destroyer armour used to be a Herald for Galactus.

This "not wanting to disappoint" is why Wizkids never posts the final list until so late in the game.

Boneyard, thanks for all your work in compiling this information. I think everybody on this board appreciates your efforts. All I can say is I'm very happy with the list so far. With Power Man and Iron Fist as rumored figures it is hard to be disappointed. I've been hoping they would consider making these two for a while. Now if they ever do a Shang Chi, Master of Kung Fu, I'll be really excited. Critical Mass looks like it will be a good set overall filling in alot of the missing pieces that people have been looking for.

Don't get me wrong man I understand where you're coming from, it's just I, and people I've talked to, fealt Cosmic Justice was an awful set.We just seemed to get repeats of the same characters (the Legionairs, Poision Ivy, Sargent Rock, Manhunters, Lex Corp security.) and very few figures we wanted (Wonder Woman, Starman, Penguins.)
With past sets I could buy a box, and be confident I'd get at least one figure out of it that I wanted/would use.

Since this has little to do with the topic at hand I'll stop discussing it and go back on topic.

We understand th risks Boneyard and how we are setting ourselves up for disapointment, but I would like to say the list that you presented looks very ballanced, and I hope it's very similar to the one that we'll see come December.

To me it looks like an 80s, very early 90s set. Especially if the news of Power Pack is correct. If you are thinking about figures that might not make it, I would suspect one of the five Spider-Man villians on the list. While I would probably eventually want all of those figures, I don't know that we would get them all at once. I assume Ghost Rider is not in the mix this time because he is figure that they could market an expansion on. With Silver Surfer out there, they don't need to pull Ghost Rider into the set. I'm still hoping Power Man and Iron Fist make the final cut.

I also doubt the appearance of Ghostrider (i hope for an expansion called anything like "Replacement Heroes" or "Second Row" that would include Hulk, Spidey, Ghost Rider and Wolverine as FF, some West Coast Avengers, Shorttime members of any team, etc.).

there is a ghost rider movie coming out with nic cage, probably around the time that they set the release date for the FF movie. I think summer 2004.

So if the game is still being made maybe we'll see an expansion based on that.

But who knows, spidey 3 will probably be coming out and then hulk...arghhh this is hurting my head.....to many....marvel movies....gonna over expose :confused:

lets just face it, most of the sets will have to do with movie tie ins, just like all the other marvel sets. and if there are no movies coming up (like around the time of this supposed "critical mass") then they'll fill in all the blanks.

Nick Cage is a huge comic book fan and has been trying to get a part as a superhero for years now. I can't believe he got the part as Johnny Blaze but then again, I guess I'm just glad that there will actually be a Ghost Rider movie. With any hope that means we might get a click of him but there is still that issue to the rights to the "toy" products so I don't know if we will ever see him.

Yep, Thanos and Starfox are related, why he took such interest in torturing him and Nebula when he had the Infinity Gauntlet.
