What about it? Who do you think is the best modder? Post your vote & I will compile the results here if they acumulate.

Please vote for the person whose sculpts look the most professional & like they just came out of a booster.

Please DON'T vote for yourself, your friends, your favorite characters, figures with the most accurate stats, etc.... You can start a new thread for that if you like.

Only 1 vote per person please, but you may change that vote at any time in a new post. Please feel free to provide links to your nominee's work for other to see whenever possible. I may leave this as an ongoing thing or wrap it up at any time depending on response. The winner gets a no-prize (No, I don't work for Marvel. This means you get nothing but bragging rights. :D).

I'll cast the first vote to get things started. My vote goes to admironheart. Here's a link:

Hi, I understand from another post that you're not into modeling yourself, but thanks for checking out everyone's stuff and commenting on things - that encourages everyone to continue to produce good work.

A couple of points, I've been hanging around in here a while and I couldn't pick one person who is the best if you put a gun to my head. I have 4 favs I look to for inspiration, they've been around awhile and do superb work - in alphabetical order they would be Doomtoy, Redfalcon, Stellar X and Steven-Davis. If I had to choose between the 4, I'd have to compare one example from each and then that would be more of a mod/modeler judgement than a judgement of who is the best modeler all around. When we have the contest in the other forum, we're really comparing mods and ideas as much as skill. I'm personally a midrange modeler at best, but I pulled off a first place victory in the first contest because my mod, Mr. Freeze, was a unique/querky solution to problem. But the mod was placed more than my ability and I always keep that in mind.

I think you'll find this bunch is a bit on the overly polite side and may be reluctant to choose an all around best modeler. Choosing one specific mod over another is not quite as personal. If you really want to do this, instead of asking people to name their favorite, it might be better to ask them to name their top 5 people in no particular order and then judge the best on whose name comes up the most - just a thought. Again, thanks for the thought and for posting here.

Jeez.

It's nice to be remembered.

I wouldn't have put myself in the running. I haven't posted anything in ages...

Doomtoy, you may not have posted any mods lately but the ones you have inspired many of us to take up the paint brush and hobby knife. As stated by DD11, picking one modder from this deep talent pool would be tough. I couldn't pick just one.

Daredevil11, I couldn't have said it better myself!

I have been painting D&D, Warhammer, and military figures for over 20 years now, but never bothered to truely model anything until I saw the work of those you cited and thought, "Gee, maybe I could give that a try and do it too!"

So I started posting my figures, to inspire others as well.

Thanks to you, one and all, for providing me with your inspirations!

O.K. - Didn't mean to start a feud. It looks like DD11 hit the nail on the head as there have been no votes. I checked out the work of some of the folks you mentioned & it was sweet! Guess I'll let the thread die. I didn't even see the existing contest. I usually go directly to this or the map pages.

Peace.:)

Hey I appreciate that someone even remembers my stuff.

I have to say that Red Falcons site inspired me to get into the mods. I wanted to do a Hell Cat for my Rookie Black Cat dial, but gave up on that and finally did my Tigra mod.

Then I came across this forum and found HORHIRO'S HEROCLIX REPAINTS and was inspired to do Hell Cat finally!!

I think this whole forum is one large group of inspiration.
Contests should be reserved for those who wish to enter.

Everyone here already is a winner for trying or encouraging mods
Sheezzz this site is so awesome just for having this section of the forum.

Now that I'm all done being mushy..who will be the first to cut and gut an Xplosion fig for a mod?!?
;)

Hey, I wouldnt let the thread die...Just change it a little. Go through the posts of peoples work, put a link to it and write a small positive review pointing out the good aspects of the modders work, and then, mabye the modder may write in to explain how he/she did it if anyone was interested. That way, new modders and old ones like myself can learn from what everyone else had done and really produce stuff that we never thaught we could.....
just a thaught:):)

That's a neat idea from Captain_Lint, might be a lot of work for one person though. How about a thread entitled - "(insert name here)'s most challenging mods and recipes."
:
Modders could repost links to figures (1-3 or so) they think we're a real challenge, then tell how they overcame difficult obstacles or achieved the unique look they were looking for. 1 post per modeler. Once a modeler is in, they could go back later and add or delete stuff from their post. Maybe it could be requested that people not comment within the thread, just modders posting about their mods and the recipes. Most mods get their own thread for commenting anyway, and it would sort of be an archive of challenging mods and how to tips. There are a lot of modders out their that don't do pictures, it would still be interesting to hear their trials and tribulations too, particularly if they've got a good solution to a difficult problem.
:
Anyway, just tossing around an idea.

Well, I have not had much time to peruse this site as of late, but when I saw this thread, I just had to add my two cents.

Personally, nothing gives me more of a thrill than to see someone’s mods and to find out that in some small way I helped inspire them into creating the figures (so a great big thanks out to daredevil11 & admironheart, both of you made my day!!!) . To me, that is the greatest complement.

So rather than having a contest to see who is the best modder might be, perhaps a thread could be created where modders can thank those who helped inspire their work.
