So I just saw a message on facebook from my venue saying that Wizkids announced a Giant sized X-men set with giant sized sentinels specifically mentioned. Does anyone know anything about this?

Nope, but repped for the info, especially since I don't use FB

Well considering it was my venue which has previously let me know about 2 different new items before I heard about them anywhere else, and not just my friend Bob's brother, I would consider it true, not a rumor. I figured I had missed an announcement somewhere. If this doesn;t turn out to be true I will be SHOCKED.

I'm surprised there'd be an announcement of a new marvel set when news from wizkids on the brightest day collector's set (which is supposed to come out oct. 27 last I saw) hasn't had any new info--nor have we heard anything new regarding dc 75.

Banshee (Ireland)

Storm (Africa Kenya i think )
Colossus (Russia)
Wolverine (Canada)
Nightcrawler (Germany)
Sunfire (Japan)

Could also include Cyclops, Polaris, Ice-Man, Havok and Angel although they wenrt focus)
Map should be Krakoa
Dont know why Sentinels would be part of it though

I was at the alliance retailers dinner where Drew announced this, will be 8 boosters in a brick with one giant size booster sealed with. back to store having the brick figures with this set, which he said was multiple man. showed a pic of apocalypse holding cyclops and jean grey that looked really cool. said there were at least 2 types of sentinels I believe in this set. also he announced street fighter clix that are to be fully compatible.

And also if he makes Multiple Man the brick fig in this set well lets just say Drew is likley to be strung up by his short hairs at the next con he attends

Is this like Hulked out X-Men?

Well, my first thought, IF this is true.

(And this should be in the rumors section, regardless, until WK confirms)

I thought the 'giant sized' referred to both the relaunch of X-Men (with the All New All Different team) as well as the set being larger than the standard 60. Maybe 64 (reflecting WOS) or even higher. Giant Size Sentinels as BTB/LEs perhaps.

At least, that was my impression.

Considering that someone with 2 whole posts has "confirmed" it... can we please move this to rumors? :cheeky:

I would be all over a Giant-Size X-Men set, provided it finally gives us a good Cyclops. It'd also be nice to see Wolverine and Nightcrawler in their 'real' costumes.

-------

EDIT: I'm assuming this will be a Collector's/Starter Set? The "Giant Size X-Men" name brings a very specific, and small, team to mind.

If the booster set up is a hybrid of regular clix boosters and those giant boosters they had in SW Miniatures, that would be pretty cool. I thought those giant boosters were a pretty cool idea. Not sure how retailers would price individual boosters though - double the price?

It should be in the Rumours/Speculation forum - WoS had been announced and spoiled and threads were still being moved into that forum.

Also, if the brick fig is in fact being shipped with the brick, Multiple Man is the perfect choice. Think of how many Surtur brick figs are out there and how easy they are to get. Now think of the production number of Hot versus WoS ...

Here is what I just received from a VERY good friend, who is at an Alliance show in Terre Haute, IN. She is there with her boyfriend, who happens to own my local venue. This is as she typed it, from her cell phone, to my facebook account.

"Giant sized X men. Brick will include a random giqnt sized super booster. 8 diff super boosters. No extra charge. Additional super booster will be available to order based on the GSZ pre order. 1/brick.

8 plus 1.

2001 Street fighter heroclix. Totally compatible."

10/08/2010, 22:01
Looks cool. Also prototype boosters.
Maybe cool if a giant figure is a 2x2 Multiple man figure (not technically a giant, but a 2x2 dial), with 4 or 5 Madrox on a duo dial. Assuming that the giants would be 2x2 figures. Onslaught! Master Mold!

Good idea. Ive wanted giant sized (1x1) sentinels since giant man in ultimates.

Yea same here. Just a complete guess but I'm sure it won't be a normal size set, and the "brick/case" will probably cost less. Pure speculation, but more than likely how it would run.

More pure speculation - does 8 super boosters mean you would need 8 bricks for a set? Getting way ahead of myself, but hey might as well drop the match into the gas tank.

And yea - more X-men will RULE!

10/08/2010, 22:46
Let's hope for a respectable showing of X-foes: Brotherhood(s), Marauders, Horsemen! It's been far too long since (4 X-men Movies?) since we've had a set with Magneto, for crying out loud. Things are bad when a roster needs "Xorn" to have as many existing Heroclix versions of Magneto as Ra's al Ghul.

I have mixed feelings about requests for actual X-Men of the Giant-Sized era, since by now I think we've gotten pretty good dials. Cyclops fans aren't going to be satisfied without getting an "uber" version of the character in all his costumes. Decent remakes won't be objectionable, since I don't expect most current players to have Banshee or even SR Storm.

If there is any comic lore supporting the "Giant Sized" theme, we'll get Krakoa the Living Island as the map.

I wouldn't rule out blind packaged colossals just yet.

Just another mutant heavy set probably have 2 or 3 figures in it that I'll ever use.

Wow, back off the haterade turbo. I know that the X-Men never really fit in the Marvel U but they weren't upset because they had cool powers, but because people hated them or their mutation made them look like monsters.

They have access to guns, and they use them too. The X-Men are the people that don't WANT to kill but to live in peace. You see very few mutant villains complaining about their powers because they just kill people and rob banks.

I'm no X-Men fan, but this sounds......kinda good. I am really intrigued to see what kind of set list this might have, if it is a full 60 or 64 or if the superboosters mean that it might be some smaller number. Will it have room for non-X subthemes? What's in them superboosters? Will there be room for a Giant-Size Man-Thing?

Set should include on no particular order. Cyclops, vulcan/uber emperor vulcan sr/chase, rogue, layla miller, cable, hope, banshee, thunderbird, nealn shahn thunderbird from extreme amen, lifegurd, her brothe slipstrem i believe, dazzler, psylocke, a good cannonball with leadershid, icarus, vanisher, pixie, elixir, feral, surge, hellion, mercury dust, anole, rockslide, prodigy, gentle, wallflower ( we need the next generation of mutants/x-men to be made into clix ), nate grey/xman, caliban, artie and leech duo, penance, empath, a decent M figure, maybe some much needed/wanted age of apocalypse figs.
As for the super boosters I'd like Sentinels ofcourse, Holocaust, Sugarman, Apocalypse, high evolutionary, and plz make a onslaught. I doubt most of these will be in this as yet officially unconfirmed product. But it's nice to fantasize about it.

p.s. I could go on and on but I'll stop myself with those .

I am curious about the contents of the superbooster.

Will it be an Anti-Monitor sized piece and four more figs from the set? Will it be for some other kind of larger or heavier piece?

Will there be just one kind of large sculpt or more than one? If so, will one be heavier than the other?

If these superboosters come in bricks, that means they are not like the Buy-It-By-The-Brick figs in that the superboosters will likely be intended for retail. Clix come to store in cases and bricks. The store owners open those bricks to put the individual boosters out. For Giant-Size X-Men, that means they will be putting out these superboosters. How much will they cost? $26 is double a normal booster. Since a superbooster takes the place of two, will it be $26?

If there will only be one superbooster in a store for every 8 regular boosters, the quantity will obviously be limited. If every superbooster has a sentinel, I can easily see the superboosters selling out on day one. Hoarders, completists, army-builders, and secondary marketeers will scoop these up quickly, even if they end up costing $26 a pop. There just won't be any available for casual retail customers.

I think I have more curiousity about the superbooster content model than I do about the set list.

JRGPRO
10/09/2010, 11:36
I'm liking the idea of the super boosters as long as the price of a brick stays the same. I'd like it even more if the super boosters had 3 or 4 figures in as well as the big figure just for value. Still the idea of big figures being more available than the one a year model we had previously that meant they were usually cosmic threats and such is pretty awesome.

If the 8 big figures number is accurate then that could mean two different Sentinels, a Frost Giant for Loki to order around, a Mole Monster (don't know the technical term, that big thing from the cover of the early FF issue), Master Mold, maybe a Galactus for people who don't have the tournament winning talent. While I don't like Onslaught that much he was still a major storyline in the 90s so he probably deserves to be made.

They have lots of options anyway, very exciting news and thats without even touching on the rest of the set which could have lots of the X-Men and X-Men villains who need making or remaking, the cosmic dudes like the Inhumans and the Shi'ar/Imperial Guard. Mr Sinister, Juggernaut, Vulcan and Gladiator in particular are figures who in my mind are begging to be made/remade with SPs.

This is my thought. If all this is true I can't imagine ever being able to find the larger boosters outside of a brick. Unless maybe some of the giant pieces are undesirable.

I'm all for remakes of most of the older Brotherhood and X-Men figures that deserve it (Blob, Magneto, Rogue, Cyclops, Jean Grey/Phoenix, Colossus, etc.).

Standard-sized, colossal Sentinels might be a possibility, given Groot's SP treatment. I definitely want Common Sentinel Mark I generics (giant or not).

The "super booster" could simply be a Starter Set/Mega Pack, or a colossal Sentinel remake (Master Mold).

I assumed that was more due to the fact that Surtur was not as unique because we already had a Surtur in set
if brick figures are going out to retailers, people are going to be drowning in them--ragnarok surtur sells for around 2 bucks on ebay.

Street Fighter CLIX?!?

Hide your kids. Hide your wife. Hide your kids. Hide your wife. And hide your husbands, 'cause they're Clixin' everybody out here.

In all seriousness, it does sound like there are 8 different Super Boosters, in which case. Ordinarily, this would force you to buy 4 cases to theoretically complete a set. However, if a store is able to order an additional Super-Booster for every brick, that would mean you'd only have to order 2 cases...and 4 extra Super-Boosters. That's really not so bad!

Miraclo
10/09/2010, 14:14
I still have yet to look through this thread, so I haven't seen the other info (nothing about super-boosters and the like) so I'll likely have more to react to. The following's what came to mind upon being presented with the idea of an X-Men centered set and word of new Sentinels:

I'm open to the idea -- there are many remakes long overdue, along with first-timers -- though I'm immediately wondering about the secondary themes as an X-Men/mutants theme will repel several of the people I know. They'll need some non-mutant enticements.

Also, I'm not looking for more colossal Sentinels. I already have a couple and I never seem to bother using them. I'd much prefer new ones made as single-base generics as I still tend to think of Sentinels as 14-20 ft robots, not the walking skyscrapers some later artists turned them into. We've seen how much power can be packed into the 12-click configuration, and I'm not at all averse to relatively high-point, generic Commons. To the contrary, I'm enthusiastic about the idea.

Rep for the pic. This is all great news. My thoughts:

Apocalypse looks awesome! I'm hoping there aren't TOO many large figs because they'll be a pain to collect. Also hoping for no large chases cause that's just mean.

The set will probably be slightly smaller in size to compensate for these big guys, no? I really like the 60-64 figure set model and I'm sure that will be reduced. :(

I can't WAIT for a setlist. But it's sure been quiet on the NECA front. How long will we have to wait for even a few confirmed guys?

I've been playing Street Fighter since I was a teenager. This is grand news to me. It's definitely not for everyone but I'm looking forward to getting some. I hope they're contained to smaller releases that aren't blind boosters. Action packs or some such.

The future is bright for Heroclix.

I assumed that was more due to the fact that Surtur was not as unique because we already had a Surtur in set

Even if this was the case, you'd wind up seeing the price for both drop significantly. However, because retail stores were flooded with brick figs (every time they put product out for display they'd end up with at least a couple extra), and players already had 1 or 2.

Really, though, I would guess that sealed tournaments would be limited to "regular" boosters only - both for game-play reasons, and sheer lack of available Super Boosters.

I would love to see an 80+ figure set. it could have 40-45 Mutant related characters, approx. 20 base on War of Kings(which also had Mutants like Havok, Polaris, Rachael Summers & Vulcan but what I really want from War of Kings is a Black Bolt, Gladiator & Medusa), finished off the GotG & other Cosmic characters like a new Blastaar, Nova & the remaining figs would be whatever the new hot comic from Marvel is plus a couple of obscured characters.

Be careful with this wish...consider that with only 8 non-"super" boosters in a brick, it is very likely that you will get only TWO SR per brick, and it is almost mathematically impossible to complete an uncommon or rare set within a case.

This set should pre-sell incredibly well for both singles resellers and case buyers.

I have to admit though since Thunderbird has such little time I really hope we dont get the old guy but rather exiles Thunderbird and if we somehow got an exiles Sunfire or Sunfire as Horseman all the better

I was at the retailer convention this weekend and talked to Justin Ziran for quite a while(have pics I will post later). The set is a reglular set with the Giant Size X-Men theme but other characters, teams will be in it(Next Wave figures are featured on the box art sides ) 8 regular boosters and one "super booster will be a brick, same cost as current bricks. The Super booster are going to retail the cost of two regular boosters around $23. Retailers will have the chance to order extra "super boosters" at the rate of one for each brick they preorder. There are 8 different "giant" figures or one "team" set in the "super boosters" . The "team" set will feature several smaller figures that are brick level quality,"Fastball special" may have been hinted at as one of those . The "giant" figures are not colossals they will be in between Dr.Manhattan and Groot in size and for game play. The two sculpts shown were Apocalypse and a Sentinel-no pictures allowed. If every thing goes on schedule the set would be released in March. Wizkids also hopes to have its tournament software up in a couple months which will track it's in store game results and report to Wizkids for rankings.

Uh...
Wow! Loving the fact that extra super boosters are orderable. That should help. A booster with an entire team sounds just great. Now, Apocalypse... his sculpt looks giant but his base looks colossal. Could he be like CPoC and the WOS brick figure Spidey in the sense that he has a bigger base (and maybe more clicks, as a result) but is a giant? That would definitely be neat. I love that wizkids is working on tournament rankings. Not familiar with Next Wave, but cool.

I'm all for this, Sentinels in boosters, you know it's why they made the giant size booster. A way to make common generic giant sentinels for the game, I'm all for it.

It depends on who all they include. Sure, there's gonna be a lot of remakes, but factoring in Next Wave, maybe a few cosmics, and hopefully a slew of Marvel Monsters, we could have a healthy population of unmades making appearances.

Maybe someone mentioned this already, but it appears that Apocalypse is on a 2x2 base and judging by the background, he's about as tall as "half a booster." So would he be a colossal or giant?

Also, does anyone remember something about a "Spider" themed set? I've forgotten what that was.

Do you read comics? I'm sorry I'm not trying to be rude, but I'm just curious. Any comic readers knows that quality does not equal sales. The same is true of any industry. Music, movies, etc. Fantastic things often don't sell, whereas total crap sells like hotcakes.

Nextwave was simply below the public radar.

The list of great comics canceled in their prime is stunning. Nobody bought New Gods when it first came out, and now it's regarded as one of the singular classics of comic book history.

While I expect no two people on this forum could agree on a list of great canceled comics, I expect almost everyone here could agree that more than half of the greatest comic series ever were canceled before they had a chance.

Actually, New Gods sold pretty decently (if not spectacularly)-- it was killed by higher-ups at DC who really didn't like Kirby. I've never heard anyone say outright who the culprit was, but it seems that Carmine Infantino is a likely suspect.

To be honest with you, I don't buy comics on a regular basis. I pick up graphic novels (I'm using that as a term for compiled comic books, possibly incorrectly) and read whatever I can find across the internet. I think the only run I have read all the way through in single issue format is Ultimate Spider-Man, and I mean like, 1-128, not the new stuff with changed art styles, because for some reason it annoys me.

Wait...How are they doing Sealed? Can I choose to just crack open my big booster instead?

I would imagine that it would be decided by the venues how they wanted to handle it.

Without knowing exactly what kind of figs/point values would come out of the super booster it would probably be easier to have sealed events that are either only regular boosters or only super boosters.

But it might be that the super booster contents are very set friendly and play just fine with the rest of the set in sealed. Time will tell I suppose.

anonym0use
10/10/2010, 10:38
Be careful with this wish...consider that with only 8 non-"super" boosters in a brick, it is very likely that you will get only TWO SR per brick, and it is almost mathematically impossible to complete an uncommon or rare set within a case.

This set should pre-sell incredibly well for both singles resellers and case buyers.

That don't bother me none. I'm more concerned with the sheer number of haven't been mades and the number of remakes we need on the mutant side of things (the Brotherhood alone would eat up 25% of a 60 figure set). I can easily populate 2 full 60 figure sets with mutant figures and still have leftovers.

I'd rather have one really big mutant set, get it out of the way, and move on to a Captain America themed set. :classic:

I am quite the X-Men hater, so I expected to shrug my shoulders and buy a little less for the inevitable X-Men set that was coming. The little info we have thus far has already been enough to bolster my enthusiasm.

1. "Giant-Size X-Men"
The name of the set actually gets me jazzed. In addition to being indicative of the colossals in the superboosters, it refers to a certain period in X-Men history. Back then, I loved the X-Men. If a significant portion of the X-characters in this set are modeled from that era, then it will be the X-Men that I actually have fond memories of.

2. Superboosters
Even though I don't really give a hoot about Apocalypse, the character, him being a colossal trumps what would otherwise be pure disinterest. I want to get this piece. Colossality overrides distaste. Offering 8 different colossals is a pretty imaginative idea that impresses me. I know I won't end up getting all of them, but even a few sound pretty fun.

3. Nextwave
Wizkids continues their great tradition of including smaller, unrelated sub-themes in each set. I love this. To me, Hammer of Thor was made better by the inclusion of the Daredevil, Runaways, and Atlas sub-themes. Giant-Size X-Men will be made better by the inclusion of Nextwave. My question on this, though, is whether or not they will use the same sculpt for Machine Man that Ben Misenar made unofficially a few years ago. I don't really know if that one can be improved upon

http://www.hcrealms.com/forum/album.php?albumid=568

Knowing that the Marvel theme was certainly going to be X-Men, I intended on lowering my regular purchase of a case down to a brick. The info above, though, has already convinced me to go ahead and get my regular case. Wizkids found a way to make the X-Men fans happy and me happy in the same set. That is a giant-size feat.

Well, I'm a huge fan of DC and X-Men, but mostly, I think figure lists should be the first bit of advertising the company puts out. I simply do not understand why they keep them hidden so long! Characters are why we put money into pre-ordering bricks and cases. Any character they don't identify is a character we aren't pre-ordering cases to get. Seems a waste of their potential. You can't really use most of the mutant mayhem or earlier sets anymore because of power creep. I've only used about 6 or 7 of the Mutations and monsters x-men more than once. There's many teams like Excalibur and X-factor that could use some love. They've only made a handful of their major villains in the last few sets. I guess I just want to see some remakes of the characters I read comics of when I was younger just like you probably do.

yes...the assortment for the super booster was going to be either 1 of 8 giant figures or a "team" booster with several smaller figures(smaller than giant). I did not say regular size, the way I understood was you would get something like three bib figures, the exact quote said to me was "several brick quality figures" which I take to mean the smallest each one could be was Batman/Catwoman size and each of these would have better sculpting and details then the regular size booster heroclix. I am not making this up and I believe I conveyed the information I heard(not second hand) from Justin Ziran accurately. I do allow for the possibility of error due to my status of being geeked out by the chance to see new clix , seeing them before everybody else, getting to speak to the guys that make the game I love, and because I am in fact a geek myself and prone to geek actions. Obviously great detail was not discussed there were no hints on characters that would be in the superboosters or set( other than the those on the box art) we could not even photo the sentinel, the boosters boxes (which I picked up) were mock ups scotch taped together not factory printed hard stock.

A statement like that could be said for any set. It could have been said for Hammer of Thor, Web of Spider-man, Arkham Asylum, and every other "theme" set. There will always be people who are detractors no matter what the set is. I'm sure there are people upset over DC 75th because it isn't in their narrow perspective of what a set should be. Because you could buy all the stupid Anti-Monitors you wanted to get they were not limited. The super boosters will be limited in production by how many bricks are preordered, then there are 8 different giant figures(not counting "team" set) to collect (only 1 Anti-Monitor to get)which you can only get in the super boosters.I believe a lot of people will want to get all 8 different figures but not buy 8+ bricks that leaves the extra super boosters retailers get to buy for preordering bricks and the super boosters they split off from regular bricks if they want to do that .Most retailers like to make money, then there is a little thing called supply and demand, and did I mention ebay. Frankly, if WoS production numbers are any indication, they'll be pretty easy to get---30 thousand cases made equals 60,000 'super boosters', and if there are 8 different big figures, it's going to average out to 7500 big figs of each (of course, having team boosters will throw this off--I'm curious as to how that's going to work).

Yeah especially because there will only be so many booster layouts, and once someone figures out how much each weigh (Someone will do it. Trust me. I've played yugioh and have more than once ratted people who weighed packs at walmart to see if they had an extra card, which was usually a card of higher rarity) the boosters will be picked out.

Just like it is easy to get all sixteen super rares for WoS so easy everybody has them all right? I know after two sellouts at my venue we still have not seen a single Spider Hulk or Iron Man/War Machine pulled yet and a grand total of 1 each Doc Ock, Cosmic Spider-Man, and Doppleganger. I have played heroclix for a while now and your telling me it is going to be easy to get all the figures? I would like to know which set has been easy to get all the figures from so far, each set has increased production from the last and not one has been easy to get all the figures from yet.

I bought 3 bricks of WOS and through those and trades I am only missing three SR's. If you buy two cases and do a little wheeling and dealing I think you'll be alright

Everyone here has to realize that every element of this set is locked down -- essentially set in stone -- right?

Yeah, that's why I called it a wishlist. It's what I'd like to see in the set. Without having any further info about set contents, this is what I hope is in there.

I wasn't trying to turn a hose on anyone, but I did want to make sure people realized they're not going to affect the list for this set at such a late date.

I really, really hope we get a decent Rogue. here's just not any right now that I feel like I can justify playing. :(

dont know if this has been stated somewhere else, but on the back of the booster mock ups they had a neat pic of magneto hovering above two steel girders being bent out of the ground. also showed armor I remember for sure in the bottom corner. Has anyone else who was there listed the characters on the box? I got sidetracked looking at the dc 75th stuff a couple steps over.

I'm glad Armor's there for the fans of the Whedon Astonishing run like myself, which has me also hoping for the Astonishing version of Cyclops. Also happy for the Magneto.

Its in the nature of the fan to speculate. Most of us know that the set is likely at the very least in production right now and nothing can change but as we still don't know whats in the set people enjoy speculating and seeing how close they are. Plus there's always the chance that Wizkids are roaming the thread and see something they didn't include on someones list and see it as a good idea to include in a later set.

With the revelation that Armor is in the set I drop Xorn out of my list.

Armor would be great! It would be even better if they could pull out a sculpt like the Blackest Night Lex Luthor - central character all wrapped in translucent plastic. I'd have to have two of those: one to play, one to display.
