View Full Version : ROCK WARS 16 (70's Songs): Round 1, Match 54

DTM
10/11/2010, 00:11
Okay boys and girls, here we have 128 of our favorite songs from the 70's, from some of our favorite artists, which will be pitted against one another, Match by Match, Round by Round, weeding them all out until they get to the FINAL MATCH, which will have our two favorite showtunes face against one another to see which one emerges as Grand Champion of our latest Rock Wars!

As always, this TOC should be voted using a very simple criteria, which song do YOU like more, which do YOU feel you would rather listen to, and which would YOU say is ultimately more deserving to move on. Easy.

Pretty basic really. Songs are matched up, you all vote on the one you like more, the winner goes to the Next Round, and we do this over and over again until the Rounds are Over. I do ask that you all give objective opinions and votes here, listening to all songs and arguments here within this TOC with an open mind, beginning to end, and base your honest votes from that.

You know the drill by now, as always I ask that you please listen to each song again with each new match before voting. Thanks all.

So without further adieu, let’s get started with the Next match of many matches to come, in HCRs latest Rock Wars, Favorite 70's Song!

I now give you:

PIGS
(Pink Floyd) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YZD1hPJG-B8)

vs.

LONDON CALLING
(The Clash) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4vHvzybkqfo)

So what say you all - which of these songs will move onto the Next Round, and which will be as dead as disco?

Pigs takes too long to get started and when it does it gets off on some nice footing, then goes into a yawn stretch and then back to good and by the time it really gets going, it's lost me.

London Calling works from start to finish.

These're both good songs, but I really like Pink Floyd's musical style. I had a crush in college on a girl who was a big Pink Floyd fan and to this day, hearing them still reminds me of her. Not influencing my vote. Just an observation. Pigs.

LOL - me and my 10th grade girlfriend used to sit in her bedroom floor listening to "the Wall" over and over again. What a trip. Certain songs on that album still take me back to those days.

I must say, there are probably 20+ Pink Floyd songs from this decade alone that I would choose over London Calling, unfortunately Pigs just isnt one of them. Huge Floyd fan here, and Id go for them over the Clash 99% of the time, though here London Calling just barely gets the nod over Pigs for me.

This, only I will say that there are definitely over 20 songs, and London Calling is more than just barely better than Pigs.

No vote yet. I want to wait until after Charlie votes as he votes opposite of me 90% of the time. I would prefer to let my nomination have a chance.

DTM and Kiwigirl are husband and wife?

The big secret is that Kiwigirl is the screen name of Phil Collins (and I'm betting almost no one remembers the start of that gag) ;)

There are a lot fewer than 20 Pink Floyd songs of any era I'd vote for over this song.

London Calling to advance.
