So, what keywords are we expecting on the Street Fighter characters?

I mean, sure, they could all deserve Martial Artist (except *maybe* some of the weird, fringe characters like Twelve or Seth), making theme teams really easy to create.

But what else? Assuming we'll at *least* get the classic twelve + Cammy + Akuma, I'd expect something like this:

And Akuma... the man ain't no warrior, he's brute as brute gets.

Ryu definately strikes me as fitting for a Warrior Keyword...

perhaps for Ryu, Ken, Akuma and perhaps if they were to make him, Master Shenron (if that's still Ryu and Ken's master's name... and I've not lost my mind), a "Hadou" keyword representing the source of their energy?

Or if we want to really go that route, instead of particular keywords, fighting styles? Shaolin for Ryu and Ken, Jeet Kun Do for Fei-Long (and I think, Chun Li?)

Yes, thats a huge problem here. They have done so many different takes on some of the characters depending on wether it was this anime series, that american cartoon series, this manga, that manga, a movie, a comic, a video game, etc, etc. We will just have to wait and see what they decide to do, as this will effect back story on the card, keywords, and even the look of the fig. Should be interesting!

I would remove Martial Artist from Blanka. His style is more a self-taught style than any established martial art.

My additions and in Italics Illuminati I believe will cause conflicts. I took them out. There's only 2 anyways.

Characters such as Ken, Ryu, Akuma, even Shawn are all "Shotokan" or " Hadou" characters. Which is the style of fighting. I would be surprised if they added that. I didn't because it clearly falls under martial artist.

Well, considering how many years he's been out of the ice is it really so much of a stretch that he's learned some new things? And as far as the training in the 40s goes...dude, it's a comic book, lighten up. There's a guy who's lived in the universe since before it began who goes around in a maroon and blue dress eating planets...I think we can overlook a questionable keyword and just use a little make believe that Cap has had either more or different training and is one of the most capable hand-to-hand fighters.

BTW - It is shown in Punisher War Journals where he went around training modern day marines who do receive martial arts or extensive hand-to-hand combat training. And yes, it's the Earth 616 one.Not anymore it isn't. Cap didn't come out of the ice until decades after the Vietnam war. He even missed the entire cold war. He woke up somewhere around turn of the millenium, possibly the mid to late nineties at the earliest.

Marvel 616 continuity is more patchy than most Marvel fans would think. Every story that has Steve Rogers fighting Soviets is non-canon.

I feel there should be keywords other then martial artist so you can play the shoto characters together (ryu, ken, sakura, akuma, gouken, sean) and the grapplers together, (Zangief, Hakan, T-Hawk, Alex, El Fuerte), and even the stretchy characters (Dhalsim, Necro, Twelve, Seth, then could be added to Mr. Fantastic and Elastic man :) ).

For every martial artist on the list they should be using the keyword: Street Fighter

Yes, as a matter of fact, I had.

It'll make folks who wanted to make theme by teaming Akuma and Shang-Chi a bit grumpy, but I think it may be the only logical solution. Otherwise, we risk turning Martial Artist into the next Mutant.

The thing is most people with Martial Artist tend to have similar Power set ups.

Very Few Have Damage reducers
Very Few Have Range > 6
there are very few fliers

What made Mutant great was you could get any number of power set-ups under that one keyword, Bricks, support, taxi, and other random fun stuff.

Almost all martial artists have High stats (except for damage), Leap, Stealth, Flurry or Charge. They Get Blades (sometimes Quake) but that's it most of the time. Super senses, Combat Reflexes or ES/D Some times Toughness. For Damage you get CCE, Exploit or Outwit.

This is like 70% or Martial artists, the problem figs are the ones who have powers that are against this mold, Figs with Range (Cap, Bullseye) Figs with HSS/Carry (Nightcrawler)
