View Full Version : TK Help
Played yesterday, but was reluctant to use Moondragon's TK because the think the rules are unclear.
First, it says make a close combat attack... but then says that friendly figures adjacent don't need an attach roll....
Also, it says for moving a figure, you only need LOS on the destination....
Ok, so could I TK Blob out of a room next door...I'd assume I'd have to roll a successful attack....
Alrighty...
When using TK to move a friendly figure, that does not require an attack roll... it is automatic. You'll just need Line of Fire to the intended square.
When using TK to move an opposing figure, this will require an attack roll...
OK, thanks, great!
Now to clarify...Breakaway? Does TK'ing someone who is adjacent to an enemy require breakaway....does TKing an opponents figure that is adjacent to one of my guys requirece breakaway (I would guess no...).
Also, so I can TK anyone within 10 squares as long as the destination is LOS? Do they have to be LOS at the start of their turn? They don't have to be adjacent even though I am doing a close combat attack.

TKing never requires breakaway.
Something which it sounds like you have overlooked, though, which is almost certainly causing your trouble, is that you can only TK something which begins in an adjacent square. The object or figure which you are planning to move with TK must be adjacent to you.
That is why you only need LOF to the destination square---you start off next to the beginning one.
Ok, here's the entry....
TELEKINESIS. This character can use a close combat attack to move another figure or object. The object can be used as a weapon. (Optional) Give this character a close combat action. The attack does no damage. If the attack is successful, move the target figure up to 10 squares in any direction, ignoring hindering terrain and figure bases. This character must have a clear line of fire to the destination square. This character may also move friendly figures and objects in squares adjacent to him (without making an attack roll). The target figure or object may not be placed in blocking terrain. This character may use Telekinesis in order to use an object as a weapon (see the Objects section of the rulebook).
It doesn't state anything about breakaway. I think they should list that specifically in the rules....

Breakaway isn't mentioned because the original definition of breakaway states that it is required when figures are given move actions (when adjacent to opposing figures). Breakaway has been clarified since---Charge requires it, Regeneration doesn't, that type of thing---but there has never been any reason to believe that non-move actions would require it.

Its not necessary to say it in the rules because you only need to breakaway when taking a move action. When you TK a teammate, they are NOT taking a movement action. If you are next to an enemy, you can still TK a teammate as you are not taking a MOVE action, but a close combat action (even though you are technically not attacking the teammate).
One of the first rules in discerning allowed actions is to define what kind of action is the character taking?
Move?
Close Combat?
Ranged Combat?
Once you know that, alot of questions can be resolved.

cool that clears up a few things for me as well...but you CANT smash enemies into walls with TK, right? only relocate them?

Correct. TK can be used neither to smash a figure into a wall or to drop them off of a building for damage.
