I was having a debate today with a friend of mine today about the new Green Lantern figure, and I was wondering what everyone else thought- What's more importent, How much you pay for the figure or the stats of that figure? Also, can you play a game just using a character's stats printed out on a piece of paper, and a marker to show where the character is?
I don't see how what you pay would be more important than the stats. The two seem totally unrelated to me. I'll pay based on how much I want a certain figure, but really, the stats don't come into play for me much, since I play friendly games, and not tournaments, I use just about every character at one time or another. I prefer to play with comic book faves of mine.
Can you use paper and pencil? Sure, you could write the stats on the back of a Silver Dollar if you want or just use creation matrix online, or one of the other online sites with the stats right there in java apps. To me though, that's just not the same as playing with the figures, face to face, with a friend. Making mistakes, laughing, making the sounds of battle, and looking generally silly while the DC good guys usually trounce the DC villians every time, at least with my meager collection.
So - to sum up, stats don't matter, to me; you can play the "game" however you want, but it's not Heroclix without the figures.
