If you remember the "Miscreant" thread, my Infraction has finally expired.

But it's still there on my user CP. Will it ever go away?

I have 3 expired infractions, just a reminder I guess...

Mine's still there too. Think of it as a trophy. You survived your shunning from civil society.;)

I can't believe I've never gotten an infraction. I'm not that much of a good boy. I guess I understand how Jimmy Buffet felt when he laughed about being family friendly.

It's expired but it never goes away on your profile. I don't think anybody but you and mods can see it though.....

I can't believe you've never gotten an infraction either.

I read stories about a few other members who've gotten infractions and the whole thing seems really inconsistent in its enforcement.

I posted a link to another site with a picture that actually was on topic for the thread, it just had some adult content (if you looked at it the right way) and I posted a warning for people so that Little Uns didn't click on it.

I've seen others post links to things that are "worse" than what I linked to.

Hell, d_knight regularly posts stuff like the stuff I linked to.

Maybe I would have never gotten it if I didn't draw attention to it with the warning.

apply the cream at least 3 times a day, and honestly just give it time. Also, don't scratch.

Don't worry, one of these drunken evenings, I'm sure I'll take one step over the line. Then PhantAlien or Zero Cochrane will be on me like a fly on s ---, Oops!

infractions aren't as big of a deal as everyone thinks they are, just chill and I'm sure they'll go away eventually, no infractions for me saying that infractions aren't that big of a deal

Every board I have even been on that has any moderation at all has a) people complaining about the unfairness of the moderation b) real examples of unfairness. That's because mods everywhere are human.

Anyway, I don't think anyone else can see your infractions, so I wouldn't worry about it.

That's correct -- I still see expired ones from nearly a year ago.

Which means that they never go away -- the next time you hack somebody off, the mods can see that you've done it before and increase the severity of your punishment a notch or two.

Think of it as A Clockwork Orange without the high-speed sex scene.

That nails it on the head.
If you've got someone who's a problem and works their way to right under the ban limit, and then trails off till the infractions expire.. Well us mods need to know when it comes to other infractions if that person should no better or not. Plus being that it's logged there (for only mods and infracted individual to see) when it comes to real trouble makers we can better see how the individual trends.. In the case of the above example of the person who gets infractions right under the ban limit, and then does it again.. Well it's not likely that they'll escape the ban by lightening up.

That being said I think the information is clear, so I'm going to close this thread up before it spirals way off topic.

Firstly, who the heck cares if they have an expired warning under infraction on their CP? If you're going to complain about something that trivial you are going to complain, period.

Secondly, saying I regularly link to 'stuff like the stuff you linked to'. What are you basing that value judgment on? Factors that can count: which thread it is posted on, how it is posted, the actual content of the picture. There is a fine line between risque and crude/offensive. Obviously someone complained about your link but not about mine, you can take that as an indicator or think conspiracy. If it's unfair PM Typhon.

Thirdly, there are always going to be comments that slip through the net and other that run right in to the wall. The rules we follow are somewhat open to interpretation and individual moderator style. No we can not have machine precision, because we are not machines and human interaction is too complex for absolute rules. There is some art as well as science to Modding.

Finally, no more of these threads, folks. Imagine being a traffic cop and every day when you go in to work people have covered the notice board in tirades about their parking tickets. We are, frankly, sick to death of petty complaints and dirty laundry being aired in public.

If anyone has actual complaints (a banning or major Infraction points for something they feel was really unfair, not just you got them and Bob down the road got away with it last week) PM Typhon.

I direct everyone to this:

Rampant Negativity
Members who post excessively negative, confrontational, rude or mean posts will be asked to adjust their attitudes or leave the site.
HCR prides itself on being a community open to all discussions and opinions, but it is not your personal dumping ground, soap box or anger management group.
If you are nothing but a black hole of negativity, you have a real life problem – seek help, but seek it elsewhere.

These last couple of months it has not been pleasant to be a Mod or a WK's employee and visit the realms for a few posters spewing bile at them. This will stop.
