View Full Version : Is R Icons Superman still viable?
Would any of you guys still play the R Icons Superman?
I have on coming in the mail and i want to play him in an up coming match.
I read the reviews on him and they were all pretty favorible.
Just want your opinions on him.

Yeah I still play him. He is a solid brick with good mobility, Superman TA and long range all for under 200 points. Is he the absolute most efficient piece now? No ... is he viable? Yeah certainly.
Personally I reach for the new 216 point one in B&B - the damage on that guy is out of sight. His AV is only 9 at the beginning of the dial, but then again, the Icons one starts with 11 but ends with 3 7's on AV. I find it hard to argue with 8 range, 2 targets and potential 6 damage with RCE and attacks never below 9. The 4 clicks of 18 DV are mean too ;)

I'd say so. He's top-heavy for sure, but quite a monster stat-wise. The fact that he can deal 5 to just about anyone 10 squares away is quite potent.

Very useful. Top heavy is Superclone's avatar...
There were very few figures from Icons that were bad.

I'd say he's by far the best Superman from Icons. With some support he's a terrific alpha-strike piece, just keep him out of close combat.

I'd play him on a celebrity team like this:
197 IO046 Superman
60 AA105 Edward Nigma
33 BB101 Bruce Wayne
290
Brutal.
R Icons Supes is still a solid choice. As everyone has pointed out, is attack values suffer late dial, but he's relatively easy to keep on his first few clicks, especially with proper support. At his price tag proper support isn't too hard to include, though.
I played him on a Celebrity team a while back and he did great, baring horrid dice rolls at one point. Hes a good fig, he does suffer from then more top loaded attacks that most suffer from from that era, but all and all hes a quality fig IMO. He works well with Edward Nigma and some Tie-up (true with almost any tent poll, but he manages theme without too much brokenness).

You can also play the R Superman without hearing your opponent snivel about CHEESE... he's got a good swing, but "only" Running Shot, with no HSS. People are more accepting of this Superman as an opponent.
Unfortunately, he doesn't have the keywords for his normal teams, which is a shame, as he's one of the lower-pointed Superman figures.

No. Rs with 12 speed flight, 10 range ignoring stealth dealing 5 damage with an 11 attack a full dial of reduction is clearly no longer playable. :D

I think he's still pretty great. Stick him with Anti Venom (GREAT little brute poisoner/healer) for 290 points of Reporter fun.

I think this is the first time I've seen someone suggesting you play LE Bruce Wayne... I would probably go with Howard the Duck or Silk Spectre instead.

I could see a Bruce/Compel combo working well, at least initially.
BRUCE: Hey Clark, know what you should do? Punch that guy.
CLARK: But...I already hit him once.
BRUCE: C'mon dude...I'll give you a dollar.

I'd say he's very useful. With a 13 HSS and a good TK'er on your team he should never get hit. Throw "Protected" on him to make sure and your good to go.

Fun thought, but not an option in the team anonym0use posted.
