Quest For the Holy Snickerdoodles: A Realms RPG

This is the part ripped from Jack.

Character Creation

A player has three stats: Brains, Body and Smarm.

Brains are used in conjunction with activities regarding intelligence, planning, logic, etc. Wisdom and Int.

Body is used with physical activities. Think Con, Str, and Dex rolled into one. Except that you're all more or less one hit point wonders anyway.

Smarm/Shmooze/Slick/Sass/etc. is used to affect things through the force of your personality. Charisma.

In addition, at the beginning a player is be able to choose an attribute This can be pretty much anything they can think of, as long as it's physically capable for them to do it/they have possession of it.

For example, they could have Watch Television or Jog For an Unreasonably Long Time. The restriction ensures that no one starts the game with Summon Gojira. Hilarity in picking these out is encouraged. Love Machine is a legitimate option for an opening attribute.

You have 12 points to distribute amongst the stats, with a maximum starting stat of 7.

Body: 3
Brains:4
Shmooze: 5

How to Play
The game effectively works by using your stats on keywords in the writeup. In this sense, it's a kind of combination between an RPG and collective storytelling.

For example, if I wrote the following paragraph:

The castle walls were dingy, lined with torches that cast flickering shadows across the cobblestones. The Orc Guard, aware of your presence, draws his curved sword and bellows. "YOU LOT AIN'T GONNA GET PASS ME!"

In this instance, the GM has signified via bolding that the castle walls, torches, cobblestones, Orc Guard and curved sword are all eligible to be interacted with. (Which makes this also kinda like a point and click adventure game)

To take an action, you describe your action and specify what attribute you are using in conjunction with the keyword.

For example, "I curl up into a little ball and weep, hoping that the orc will show pity on such a lowly creature." (brains) would be an unmodified Brains attack roll on the Orc.

Much like Heroclix, the keywords have defense values (sometimes secret, sometimes public) that the attack rolls are compared to. For example, the Orc's value is 12. If the weeper's Brains value was 4, it would be exactly like rolling a 4 Attack Value on a 12 Defense Value in Heroclix. If the rolls succeds, it's assumed that the attack worked. If it fails, it's assumed that it did not. Much like Heroclix, snake eyes is an epic fail and boxcars is an epic success.

Using an Attribute is like BCF: you roll a die and add the result to your stat.

Gaining Stats and Attributes

Every time you succeed in an action, you gain 1 Experience Point.

5 Experience Points = a one point increase in a stat

10 Experience Points = a new trait, the type of which shall be determined by the GM. JK's Note: Due to the way I'm having the campaign set up, you WILL be able to pick an attribute from worlds we haven't been to yet. More on that later.

Note: this XP system is effectively in beta. JK's NOTE: Additional XP possibly given for things I find particularly creative (or amusing). Additionally, you will only be able to XP exchange at certain points in the game. Don't worry, you'll know where.

Taking your turns

Each day allows for each player to take one action. If you do not take an action, you do not take an action; it's no skin off the GM's nose. Subs are allowed if planned for.

Enter Command: Examine

If you wish, you can do a general scan action to get a sense of the place you're in. ONLY ONE PERSON CAN DO THIS AT A TIME. In addition, this action does not receive an XP point. You're effectively taking one for the team in exchange for information. This won't go into effect right now, but immediately afterward!

No "Assist" actions, ya crumb bums! You guys need to explore a variety of possibilities!

Further JK notes: Expect your characters to get horribly polymorphed and their stats changed, and don't worry if your character dies. In this campaign, death is a slap on the wrist, and is more about the hilarious actions you guys take to get to the MacGuffins. More on that when we actually get into the game.

Also, if there are any specific settings you particularly want to see show up, now would be a good time to mention them.

well, I misunderstood the rules the first time around, thinking he meant you could only pick things that you could personally do. So the hypersensitivity thing is actually a disorder I have. Still, it made it more fun. So I'm keeping to that with my new choice of attribute. Also, I edited my stats a lot. What they are now is my final choice if that's ok.

I was thinking things like becoming Wade Potter and casting a spell(brains)...which I would assume you would decide what spell so it could work for or against me...or like becoming Wadeacus and fight someone (body)...if that is too much I can change it :p granted by all means this doesn't mean I actually become these people but rather believe myself to be them...so it could just fail epically :laugh:

Actually, I kinda like this. It reminds me of something from a Call of Cthuhlu game I played, in which if you failed a sanity roll, instead of the usual effects on the chart, you started tripping balls and your what you hallucinated influenced what you did. It can stay. :laugh:

I've never really been interested in having high body-esque scores in RPGs.

That would be awesome. Run two separate threads, and if you are on one squad, you can't read the thread for he other. Honor system enforced. Crossovers would either happen in a third thread, or else happen in both threads at once, with each squad getting a different side of the story, with different information entailed.

Hm. I know that running two simultaneously can get a little messy, in terms of trying to keep track of everything, but then again, since it would be roughly one action per day, I don't think it would be as nasty keeping everyone roughly in sync with each other. Might have to make some slight adjustments to what I had in mind.

Or alternatively, if someone wants to run a second game in sync with this one, I'd be open to that as well. Either or. We'll see how many people we get.

A hostage situation that involves a true friend or love interest being the hostage: Emotional Detachability is activated and I will have no problem shooting through the hostage to get the bad guy.

When you say that our stats will change, do you mean that they will shuffle? Or will we end up with less points than we had before the change? If the latter, then is there really an incentive to level our stats?

Let me explain. These are your base stats. Every time you *poof* back from death or back to normal, these will be your stats. However, expect things to happen to your characters which "adjust" your stats. For example, let's say you get hit by a shrink ray. Your body score will also shrink, but your schmooze/swanky/whatever might go up because, awww, tiny things are cute.

Of course, that's just an example.

(Heres an example, I walk up to one of the players at my venue for Clix, and rght before he rolls, say "Critical Miss!!", and it works, more often than not. Also, one player was missing every attack, and when i walked up and started watching, he got 3 critical hits in a row.)

Basically, we're gonna be hopping from extant fictional setting to extant fictional setting. Por ejemplo, in Jack's game, we started off in Mario world, went to 80s Ninja Turtles World, and then to Star Trek World. I'm going to give you guys a little bit more flexibility in the order you visit them, and I'm open to suggestions.

To clarify, we attack the trainer before he has released his pokemon. If he lets out a pokemon first, you are free to attack it. We'll just take his other pokemon, and pokeballs.

Don't get me wrong, people hop to and from universes all the time, blow the #### out of the space-time continuum, rip causality a new one, and create so many grandfather paradoxes that it's hard to remember who boffed who in the first place, but on the whole, the multiverse has ways to keep things in check.

But what if it didn't?

For some strange reason, a motley assortment of members from a certain internet forum (with preternatural powers) find themselves coincidentally vacationing in a set of cabins in some generally nondescript woods. To the North, there is a lake. To the east and west, there are some trees with what appears to be delicious fruit. To the South is the highway, the other side of which has some rustling bushes. The Moon hangs high in the sky. It is quiet.

Too quiet.

TBB, being the astute young man that he is, decides to investigate the delicious fruit.

CRITICAL FAIL

Upon coming near the fruit, the fruit flies off the tree at hypersonic velocity, directly through TBB. Shortly before exploding in a cloud of gore, TBB shouts, "The delicious fruit is perfectly safe! And probably tastes like candy!"

TBB has been killed. We're not at the Constant Rezzing point of the game, so hold on, buddy.

Space Jawa, feeling inspired by videogames, holds his leaf high above his head! Through some act of magic, two furry ears and a striped furry tail sprout from him.

SJ is now Raccoon SJ! +1 Charm, -1 Brains

After a few failed attempts at flying, he remembers that raccoons can't actually fly, so he decides to climb one of the cabins to get a better view of his surroundings. A pair of headlights are coming up the road, and in the woods on the other side of the highway, he's convinced he hears music...

Wade Wilson, in a fit of psychosis attempts to throw Sky into the bushes across the highway. It is a rather poor attempt, as Sky is only thrown a couple inches. Not wishing for Wade to become embarrassed and sulky, Sky starts running, flailing his arms, and charging at Zombie Stranger, who was in the process of a sexy, yet disturbing, car summoning ritual. The wind picks up, and Sky picks up speed. The collision is solid, as Zombie is knocked into the street right in front of the car he called. Hey, that's more pieces than he intended to fall into!

Zombie Stranger has been killed. Oops.

Pax, in a fit of Paxness, then picks up Wade, and glares menacingly at the Moon. That celestial body would mock him no more! He threw!

...And only did a marginally better job than Wade did. Oh well, no harm done, right?

WRONG! The Moon has decided it won't take that sort of crap, and falls from the Heavens, right on top of the ones who have offended it. Charlesx wisely ducks out of the way, as Ouchmaker laughs coldly at their misfortune.

Pax and Wade are now smears under the Moon.

Stranger and Sky each gain one Experience point

The car, upon seeing the fall of the Moon, wisely decide to drive away, as the Moon is clearly angry. You can tell this by the way it has started rolling and attempting to smash everything in its way. Our heroes (what's left of them) had better get on the move!

So, to review.

North: The lake, which is blocked by an angry oncoming Moon.
East/West Woods with Delicious Fruit, TBB's Head
South Highway, Bushes, Misc Parts of Stranger

I will use my ability of emotional detachability and test how corrosive Pax-acid is by throwing in the acid a Stranger bodypart (body). I have no interest in knowing which piece it is. Meanwhile I will try to stay clear of any fruit, the moon, or any space between them.

With Sky standing between the moon and the fruit? Bad idea.

I thought that Sky was trying to get the fruit to shoot at him, then dodge and get out of the way. I am trying to get the Moon to come at the fruit. Can it be done? I don't know. That's what the roll is for.

Are you that certain that you can make the fruit shoot at you? I figured that if the Moon rolls over the fruit, then it's a done deal. You definitely don't want to be in the middle, though, one way or another.

No, would've been Ouchmaker, if he'd screwed up badly enough. Actually, I was in the middle of writing your section of it when my computer decided, "Screw what you're doing!"

I think my thumb must've slipped onto the touchpad or something.

Let's try this again, only without the stupid parts.

The distant music (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iZq3i94mSsQ) suddenly becomes not so distant as a giant, fire-breathing, Satan Head tank roars up the highway! It comes to an abrupt stop in front of our heroes. Two burly looking men wearing camo fatigues and kabuki make up step out of the tank, wielding improbably large guns. They look like they mean business...until they're distracted by an incredibly sexy looking dead hand, anyway. They become completely oblivious to the following tableau.

As if sensing the plight of its master, a grey, stoney looking mushroom starts shivering wildly, releasing all manner of spores. Suddenly, TheBoyBlunder's disembodied head lets out a gasp, as several tentacles sprout from its neck.

TBB has the status CTHULOID! His moxie becomes zero, and all those points go into body, until this status effect is cured somehow!

Ouchmaker considers going for what's left of Pax's blood on the ground (or Moon), but thinks better of it. That Moon seems angry, and would probably chase him down and gush him if he went for it. The two bloodstains do nothing, although not for lack of effort.

And finally, as a group charlex, Space Jawa, and Sky taunt the Moon from among the trees of delicious fruit. The Moon starts rolling towards them.

Our three heroes dive in three different directions as ALL the Delicious Fruit flies at the Moon, knocking big chunks of the celestial body to the ground. The Moon turns red. It seems even ANGRIER now!

SJ, Sky, Charles, and Stranger are awarded Exp!
