How Many Wins This Month You Guess?

I have won 2 of 2 tournies so far this month and I plan on playing in another 15. If I go undefeated in the month I plan on selling all my figures and going back to Magic until after the nationals.

I want people to post there guesses at what my record will be for wins out of the 17 tournaments I will play in this month. I will have a new post each time I play and the result as well as the winning team of each tournament.

I am also trying to get in the good graces of Jon L and the other game designers so I can help them and get some input into them. I will have some of the final match listed as well so people will get an idea of how to play in tournaments and whats good and isn't.

2:2 15 to go.

Next game is Thursday night and the tournament is Marvel 200.

I've got a pretty good record, but by no means am I the best player in town. There are a couple of guys here who are so good that I know that I can chalk up a loss before I even sit down.

Come to think of it, there really aren't any bad Heroclix players in town. I'm trying to think of anyone who has played in at least three tournaments and has not won an LE, and I'm coming up blank.

My strength is in strategic play; I can do well with a bad mix of figures (which is why I am unbeaten locally in sealed play). But every time I pull a tactic, I know for a fact that someone is going to use it against me the next tourney.

So I have to think that the guys you play with don't learn from their games...:)

Out of our past 5 tournaments, I won 3, and got fellowship twice, and finished dead last once. (we started doing fellowship based on a vote for creative/continuity-based teams, as everyone who plays at our venue is cool, and it was too hard to single one person out as the best sport). One of the times I placed first and got voted fellowship for my monster/mad science team. Don't worry, the fellowship prize LE went to the next runner up. Last week I got fellowship for my Government agent team (though I was very close to placing first)

(of course whenever we play, TexasWashingto always get's the better LE. He gets Doctor Doom for 2nd, I get Elektra "nachos" for 1st)

The thing is I was the best in Ottawa when MK was in its infantcy, I am the best player in Ottawa in Magic The Gathering(after only one year of play) and Im way above everyone in this game.

I have had some very hideous dice rolling games multiple
snakeyes with multiple 3 rolls. But with the exception of that I have never lost a game except to a select few people whom I play with. I actually consider my den of players to be some of the best out there and I loose to them about 25-30% of the time 1/4 games.

Trust me I would love to see this game sanctioned. Then you would probably see me in Washington at the worlds but that will probably never happen. The judges here call me Trixie because they think the moves I pull are out of nowhere and even when it looks like Im down and out its strategy that pulls me threw every time.

That player is out there that can beat me, by no means am I undefeatable but put the same 2 constructed teams together and if Im on my game anyone would loose. I give you the ups for being good at sealed, because I think its so totally random. Some guy pulls a flier and V Bane, or E Thor in marvel. Sure there are ways around that but if an extremely competant player who gets these charaters and decent rolls will win in sealed. That was the case in the 2 loses I have had in 20 tournaments.

But common man take a guess at the 17 and I hope to hear more from you, we seem to have good discussions. :)

I have to echo Xavier's sentiments. What does using this team prove about your skills? If you replace the Doombot with a Wasp and replace the AIM Medic with a HYDRA medic, it's practically Rex's team. And we all know how totally GREAT he is...

See, this is why I think that making the Marquee a sealed format is a great idea on Wizkids' part. You are not likely to see teams like this in them. I think that sealed events are a true measure of strategic ability, taking into account the increased effects of luck. (Edit: so all of your losses were in Sealed Formats? if so, I think that says a lot...)

Otherwise, all you're testing is the team-building savvy of two opponents. Sure, dumb mistakes can ruin any team, but you really don't NEED good strategy with a team like that.

I can safely say that I have happily lost quite a few games. If the game was fun, action-packed, and tough, then I had a good time if I won or lost. I do not begrudge winners, as long as they are good sports, and I try always to be a very cheerful loser. You are neither. Bragging, made even more meaningless by it's context here on the internet, proves nothing but a need for attention.

As far as your record goes, heck, I bet you win all 17. I mean, you ARE the best player in Ottawa, right? I'm not being sarcastic when I make this bet. Just don't expect me, or anyone else, to care if you do.

P.S.: Let me know if you do get rid of your figures. I'm sure we can make some trades!

That team looks pretty predictable.

Keep the Medic adjacent to Firelord. If you get first move, you have two chances to MC Firelord (with PC from Black Cat). His Firelord kills either the Doombot or the Medic, preferably the Doombot. If he gets first move, he will target Moondragon, who can then be healed by the Medic. He can't afford *not* to target Moondragon, really.

Second turn, push and do it again, killing the model you didn't go for the first time. He might as well kiss the game goodbye at that point.

Then sit back and wait for him to come to you while you push Hyde into his Charge click.

I've played against teams like this fairly often, and rarely lose more than Vulture.

No poor sportsman here my friend. I would gladly go down losing to a player who outwitted me in a game. I enjoy sealed alot I just don't think it shows as much skill as does constructed.

For instance The first tournament I won this month was DC sealed. In my boosters was: E Aquaman, E T.O Morrow, E Robin, R Mad Hatter, R Cheackmate Medic, R Plastic Man, R Clayface III and R Superman. This is a PRIME example of what I hate about HC sealed. Your team is built before you even begine. I obviously went with the seven man team adding up too 197.

If someone where to get characters like E Thor, V Bane with Taxi and they where up too my calibre in playing, they would woop my a s s. But if there where 2 completely balanced teams for whatever reason going at in the final of a sealed tournament I would be shocked. I played 2 Marques won them both. Got E Thor in 1 of them and that tournament went down as the one I wish to forget the most.

It was like waiting for the 3 to 4 hours to expire and just getting out of there. There was absolutely no challenge. But playing in constructed tournaments all be it similar teams are played but at least the pieces that are the most powerful in the game are played and you get to attack/counter attack and strategize.

I love the Heavy Hitters tournaments and Elevated buildings. You have one week to make a team and there are no ringers before you go a balanced playing field. But in sealed its the luck of the draw- the skill of the player. So if you pick a 1-10 team and you are a 10-10 player you will even out somewhere around a 5-6. But if you get a 6-10 team or better and are a 10-10 player most likely you are bound to win.

I have yet to open a unique from a booster of any set purchased or sealed and have never got a vet that I could field either. Thats saying alot seeing as how many tournaments I have been in. If you wanted a level playing field for sealed you would have to change it too a draft format and make a decision on trying to win or going home with some good figs. That would balance it out, just imagine E Thor and V Sniper in the same booster. This would limit that player to just the Thor and the next player would get a great addition to there team.

But s h it I can't argue Im a good player, but everyone else can argue that Im a great player. Maybe my next post should be asking wizkids to have a 4 sanctioning system: Marvel(constructed and sealed), DC(constructed and sealed) so that the ratings wouldn't lie and I as well as many others could boast all day long and people couldn't say s h it about it.

Scowlingone, very good Firelord killer team I must commend you. I usually use Moondragon in all builds of 300 point teams with Scarlet witch or Black Cat. The tools are there and that team looks alot like the 300's I faced last week.

I for one would never put Firelord in harms way on the first turn. He is generally used as a 10 taxi for Elektra and when I need him plow for 5 or usually 3 after he has taken a few clicks. The thing with my team is the whole team is going together and if you use the vulture with Moondragon I would shoot the Vulture and move out of Moondragons assault range and parry around the back portion of your team.

My Bullseye never misses with the 12 attack(11+1Hydra from doombot) At best what you are shooting at is a 18 Defense the whole game that can only shoot my Doombot. Then If I score a hit and you want to run, Firelord brings the heat with 10 movement and Elektra rains down the fire. Nobody can miss on my squad and the leadership from Doombot gives that extra edge that you need.

I am a very active player. I will usually push anywhere from 5-10 times in game. Just to mix the pot. I will never sacrifice a character. Unless there is a character on the other side thats worth more I can get advantage on. I mean your team is solid but only as good or bad as Moondragon can role in my opinion. Make the roles you will do well, don't and you will loose. Thats why I think she is much more suited for 300 point teams.

On a final note the Vulture seems to be the big piece to this puzzle and he would get shot for 3 by bullseye on first contact(No one would waist an attack on Moondragon when she gets 2 rolls on SuperSenses). Then a 2 and he is down for the count. No more moving in, unless a Moondragon move with telekinesis push. You would be on the offensive to catch up after that. I can't really say more about Moonie like I said she is on my 300 point squad so I think she is powerfull but I don't give up Firelord to her ever.

If your Bullseye is getting +1 from the Doombot, your Firelord is not getting taxied in. As such, I'm more than happy to TK Hyde into base contact with both the Doombot and Bullseye, eliminating Bullseye's ranged attack. You will fail your break test (PC). Both of those models will die, probably without doing any damage to Hyde.

Using Firelord to taxi Elektra is a waste of 66 points; that's not his strength. Like Firelord, she's very fragile, too. A MC'ed Firelord can still do 3 damage to Elektra even if she's dropped into terrain. Once she takes 3 damage, she's all but useless. And Elektra will have to come out of Hindering sometime to attack with BCF anyway. Again, PC will make it very unlikely that you'll do much damage with her. You can try the taxi yo-yo, but once Firelord starts pushing, you're looking at multiple models that need healing instead of just one. At that point, I can press the attack.

Vulture is just an extra flyer. He's not key to the team at all. Heck, I could replace him with two Thugs or another Medic. Come to think of it, two Thugs might even be more effective. I'll have to try that.

You're not going to flank me; leap/climb and MC are two of the best ways to disrupt flanking maneuvers.

But, like I said: I've played against the RCE/Elektra team too many times to count; it has many weaknesses but only one real strength. I'd play you online, but it takes...so...long.

Oh, everyone could still say something about your boasts. For instance, I could say that you are a pompous windbag. I never argued about your skill. How could I when I will never see you in person? But I honestly could not care less about your win record, and an official ranking would not change my position. You are certainly free to post things like this as much as you want. I don't think you shouldn't be. Just be prepared to receive criticism when you write a bunch of drivel about your unbeatable skills, or your knowledge of the game which surpasses even the creators'.

The way you are looking at it seems really weird.. You have one Taxi(Vulture) if you plan on ever using Tk with Moonddragon, unless you plan on sitting the whole game and waiting you will have to start the journey over. My team excells in long range and close combat.

When the fight gets going you will only have 2 actions. In order too move Black Cat into some kind of area where she is effected would be her death. This also can't be done on the same turn you TK/attack with something. Like I said before I don't see how you are going to do any serious damage?

I like you but Mr.Hyde? I know lots of people on the realms think this guy is good and he is but he is no Unique Wolverine or Unique Elektra. Oh well I don't see how this team would beat mine. Ill be it every roll goes your way and I roll ####. You will not get a chance to MC Firelord. It won't happen. So at best you are doing 2 damage or 1 damage all game while I am doing 3-6. The 3 charge on Hyde will probably never go off. He is slow and cumbersome and even if Taxied he is only 1 good roll by Elektra away from death. Its not hard to block Black cats line of site which renders her power useless.

NOBODY knows you and since there is no official ranking system, there will never be a way to tell how good a player is. You sound like a twelve year old who is trying to impress everyone else. One more thing, there is nothing creative about the team you've chosen to play. We've all seen that team many times in this forum. This undermines you discussion on how constructed requires much more skill than sealed. If you constructed an army using figures no one else uses and win with that team than you could make statements like that.
Play a hundred mirror matches with your closest competitor and then you'll learn something about skill and strategy.

I have won my share of tourneies and it got kinda bored, so now I play theamed teams. NO taxies last time and still was competitive.

I have played with the some of the best here in Colorado and against the best it usually comes down to a break-away roll or a critical miss early.

A. Don't knock V Mr. Hyde. in a sealed booster tourny a weekend or two ago I had to go witha V wasp, V Hyde, R Pyro, R Hydra Medic, an R white queen. Hyde caused quite a ruckus when he started pounding down the undefeated team of the tourny, an got me first place.
B. You being the best player where you are doesn't mean you're the best player ever, and the game designers want to hear your input. How much useful input can you give rolling around with teams like that, who don't require much strategy, or thinking? Let those tournament rankings come out, I bet you won't be near the top of the list. Why? Because if rankings happen, you KNOW everyone that wants to be up there will just use some sort of firelord team at whatever tournies they play to boost their rating.

Eh. You'll probably win quite a few, because most players, after they've been playing for a couple weeks, abandon the Firelord/Bullseye taxi shoot in favor of strategy figures. I lose a lot, but at least I lose with dignity, and not with dignity's opposite, Firelord. If you've been playing the same Firelord/Bullseye/U Elektra team since the game began, you've probably gotten really good with it.

Firelord doesn't scare me. If someone plops down Spider-man, Magneto, or Blue Beetle, who are board countrol figures, I start go get nervous, because these are very good figures... In the hands of people who are better than I am. :)

And I disagree about sealed boosters requiring more strategy. Your team proves it. A retarted chimpanzee could play a Firelord/ Bullseye team and win 75% of the time. (If you're winning more than that, you're smarter than a retarted chimpanzee.) But in sealed boosters you have to use total figure knowledge to figure out what the other person is going to do... You have to strategize on the fly.

There is more luck, of course. But I live in the Seattle area, right next to the Wizkids store, and there are some very good players here. When Marquee season came around, two players took first and second in four out of five marquees? Why? Because they know all the figures, and can create adaptive strategies on the fly. When you're winning sealed boosters regularly, THEN you can claim your title among the best of the best.

Thanoseid, I have to say that the Firelord team you use is amongst the best. I wouldn't mind if you posted "I have the best team" because there would be a good chance you are right. Also, your team is surprising less cheesey then many teams because your strategy is not build around dupes, turtling or mixing sets. But when you post stuff like "I'm the best player ever" that is a little crazy, but I'm assuming you are just joking about that stuff(but if you really believe it, I would suggest seeking professional help immidiately).

As for how many tournaments you'll win, I really can't guess because I do not know how good the other players attending the tournaments are.

P.S. I used to be a big Firelord supporter, but then I started to feel like it was an unfair (not un-strategic, but unfair) way to win, so I stopped. I'm guessing you will end up doing the same.

I said I have won many sealed tournaments, I said I playtest every Sunday, I said that the team listed is mine and I posted the day CT was released, I have said I know the dials of almost every piece in the game by heart, I have also said that I have a historic background in many games where I was an elite player. All this aside I have also said Im not unbeatable and that I know that any Firelord is cheese and that he is outlawed or banned when the DEN plays for fun.

With the exception of like 3 or 4 of you I don't think the literacy is quite up too par yet because I don't think you read all the things posted. But I will try not to rag on people who rag on me alhough I do enjoy it immensely. People have grown interest in what I have to say and 80% hate me and 20% love me. Its funny I kinda like it that way.

The background of HC comes from MK and the reason the DEN quite that game was we where getting tired of playing each other week in and week out, there was no competition. Now all we need do is sanction this game and watch the money roll in. I will enjoy meeting all of you and playing you if that happens. So make comments to Wizkids about getting sanctioning but don't bring your GUNS to the tournaments its a game remember.

As a member of Thanosied's playtest group, I can say that we all are sort of excited about Xplosion because a lot of characters we have been waiting for are coming out in the set, but the amount of cheap characters is going to alter all of our tournament play (eg. Paramedic and con artist are just stupid). I go to half the tournaments with Thanosied and about 80% of the time I am playing him in the finals. This isn't a bragging post, just to let you know that he isn't talking S H it. I think it is to funny that all of you posted in the first place to complain......

If you were talking to me, I'd have to respectfully decline your offer. Lvl. 5, or no, I wasn't very impressed with Johnny Storm (or any of the LE 5s except Ted Kord). Clint Barton, while not amazing, can be pretty fun with some Sinister Syndicate friends and his 3-arrow incapacitate.

If you were putting up a Kitty Pryde, or a Betsy Braddock (drool....), things might be different.

My thoughts;

First of all, I think this is just a thread to impress Jon L. You want to be a play tester. What better way to impress him by laying claim to not only being the best player in the universe, but an important member in a group dedicated to play testing. Then, just in case he's questioning your story, have a friend show up to verify your claim. Now he'll know you're serious, and the job is almost yours. Of course, he might be more impressed if you hadn't insulted him so much in that other thread.


And I'd like to see your ranking in magic.
If you're the best magic player in Ottawa, I'm sure your ranking will prove that. So, who are you? Let us look you up. Because I'm sure you've played lots of events, and will have a lot of points.

You mentioned it's too bad Heroclix isn't ranked. Well, show up at a couple big tournaments, and I'm sure everybody would bow down to your greatness after you've won. Will you playing in the Heroclix tournaments at Wizard World in Philadelphia? How about an autograph session at the DC Heroclix World Championships in Chicago, August 8-10?

I honestly think we should all leave Thanoseid alone because this is probably all he has going for him. Oh man, this thread is awesome! I remember in WCW when Perry Saturn was coming after Raven. Well Raven would have none of it. "You aren't good enough to face me!" So what went down? Saturn had to fight and beat every member of the Flock in order to get the right to battle Raven. (And, as i recall, during that fight the whole Flock rushed out with Stop Signs to beat Saturn down, but that might have been the Goldberg match.)

Thanoseid, why *don't* you feel shin-goji is good enough to play you? Personally I've never seen him play, but I don't usually dimiss people out of hand. Actually, in my local area I'm probably one of the best players and have trashed other good players. However I have yet to summon a pack of them as a testing ground for anyone who wants to play me. DOn't you think you're getting a little bit (just a *little*) odd? Is the rest of DEN online and looking to be the proving ground?

In regards to your initial reasoning for this thread (which is why I came here, though the funny posts kept me around for a while) I say, rock on! It's really cool that you're the man in your local circle. Of course, that is a pretty classic 'I-crush-people-at-tourneys' team, but hey, I know how it is to go out and want that win. It's a pretty solid team. Barring bad dice and with you apparently the best player locally, I expect you to rack up an impressive win streak.

However, I sort of felt the entire reason for this thread was so you could get a job at Wizkids. I am pretty sure I have yet to see there win/loss requirements for employees. Are they stringent? I'm curious because I lost a lot of my initial matches and if I want a job at Wizkids I'm not sure I'd want them impacting me negatively.

Also, have you submitted a resume'? I would imagine they hire on playtesters like businesses do with any other job. If you really want a job at Wizkids I suspect a resume' and cover letter (with a follow up phone call later in the week) will actually do you better then posting your win/loss record for a month. THough I must admit I havn't researched Wizkids hiring policies yet. Since you want the job I presume you have and thus know what yu're talking about.

How many wins in a row will it take to qualify as a playtester? Does it take more wins in a row to qualify as a figure designer?

I'm kinda curious now and wouldn't mind it if you could tell me.

You cannot make statments like that and have it reinforce your stature as a HC God because they are only theoretical possibilities. As a matter of pure fact, no. Do a search on every post I have ever done. Waahhhzil and I were gonna hook up for a forum game. He built a team on Incapacitate and Mind Control to fight my team of Sentinels and Spiral. He resigned before we even rolled to see who went first. Plain and simple. Then when we started to get ready for a rematch, he decided to go for the long and drawn out 4 on 4 forum game and I didn't want to join in, because I knnew it would take a month or more to play, which it just about has, and my challenge was for a head to head game. Below is the link to the Gen Con Indianappolis registration web site. You can do everything from there, i.e. convention registration and hotel room reservations. If you decide to go then my challenge is still up. I am assuming that the Gen-Con championchips will be held on Saturday. Any day other than Saturday will work for me at Gen-Con, i.e. Thursday, Friday, or Sunday. Hope you can make it!

Actually I am one of the people who play with Thanosied on a regular basis. I suppose I'm one of the Den cause I do playtest Heroclix with them every sunday and more days of the week. We've spent hours just trying to think of teams for various theme tournaments we've been to, the heavy gravity DC tournament this weekend should be fun.

I don't get to as many tournaments tho because the ones during the week are at 6 and I work 10-6 so I'm kind of outta luck. He did however win the 2 last weekend on Saturday(Orleans, Kool Kards) and Sunday(Ottawa, Fandom 2). I won fellowship at Orleans having only lost to him, and came in second at Fandom having only lost to him as well. I have beaten him before tho, and the game at Fandom was extremely close. I don't know about tonight, I managed to make it to a tournament in Ottawa (Comic Book Shoppe) which I won and he went somewhere else, he's not answering his phone right now so I don't know how he did.

I personally have never used Firelord in a tournament but I will concede to using Ultron, he is by far one of my favorite characters. Actually tonight at Comic Book Shoppe it was changed at the last minute from a sealed to 300pt mixed marvel DC and I played with my favorite team of all time. (Yes I know it's cheese but it's hilarious)

Almost forgot to mention. As much as I personally would LOVE to make it to GenCon somewhere I doubt that it would ever happen. I work with one of the guys who goes to all the Cons and works as one of the heads of security. The chances of 2 tech support guys from my company getting time off at the same time to go to the Con are highly unlikely. =\ But who knows, I suppose it's not impossible. *sigh* One can dream can't they? :P
