I really enjoy the new Hal Jordan, and I got to thinking of how to really take advantage of his special power.

ONE-MAN JUSTICE LEAGUE: Once during your turn, as a free action, you may choose a standard attack power that no other character on you force can use. Hal Jordan can use that power until the beginning of your next turn.

Blades/Claws/Fangs is a standout to me. The first two clicks of this power, it would not be advised since Hal has ESD for defense and a 3 damage, but on the last two, he switches to Toughness and 2 damage, which makes him pretty well suited for close combat. Vampirism could also be tacked on for some late dial healing with BCF.

Pulse wave with Nova Blast would be pretty situational, as doing damage to yourself isn't really a good idea late-end dial, but if you're playing Hal in constructed you probably have Ferris tagging along and Nova Blast to the face wouldn't help her much.

Energy Explosion with Recharge would be another way to get some self healing in there, not too much to that.

Psychic Blast is an obvious choice, just point and penetrate. Incapacitate with Stunning Blow is another choice, but again, if you've got Ferris tagging along, she can potentially give a target 2 tokens and you can't use it if she's got it showing on her dial. If you're up against a big bruiser Psychic Blast may be a better option.

Steal Energy would be helpful for modern age, but if you're using feats, to me it would be better to choose BCF and just tack on vampirism. It's too bad that Poison isn't compatible with his power though, but what other things have you come up with? Post 'em!

How about telekinesis + Lantern object that lets you heal at a -1. This way when Carol heals him he has a higher chance at healing back to his start!

Everything is pretty situational, though.

To qualify for Vampirisim, doesn't Hal have to have Blades on his dial somewhere?

I understood it as the special power gave him an attack power so he could use feats with it. And so did the people at my venue. :/

Yes. Thats why the OP stated that he could choose Blades/claws/Fangs for the power of choice. This way he gets to use the Vampirism feat because he'd qualify for it then.

In order to be assigned a feat, the character must be able to use the prequisite power or ability. If the character uses the prerequisite power through a power or ability that is not a standard or named power, the prerequisite power must be named by the game effect specifically. A special power that allows a character to use “any standard power” does not satistfy the prerequisites for a feat.

The underlined part sounds like Hal Jordan's One Man Justice League power... He doesn't seem to qualify to be assigned the feat.
