View Full Version : Getting Caught up on Modern Clix

Hey everyone,

Alright, so I JUST got back into Heroclix after taking a 3 year Hiatus (haven't played or purchased anything since Origins). So I'm trying to find a way to catch up on the sets that I missed. I have a friend who's offering to trade me a lot of his CUR's from pretty much any set (except HoT, Crisis) for some of my SR's or R's from DC75.

However, since I haven't played in so long, I'm not sure what the better figs are and how much most of them are worth.
So here are a few questions I have.

1. What are some figs/sets I should definitely try to obtain (for overall playability, value, etc) ?

2. How many CUR's would you recommend I try to get for an SR (we'll say the Superman SR, which is one he wants). I know Superman is worth about $15, most CUR's are worth .50-1.00 it seems. I hope he'll be generous and give me a large bulk trade.

3. Are there any other methods I could use that won't hurt my wallet to hard? I was also thinking of trading off some of my older sets to get newer stuff. Or perhaps scanning Ebay for big lots.

4. Last but not least, Anyone have any ideas of where HoT or Crisis booster may be found? I've heard they're pretty much non-existent or very over-priced now.

Any other advice would be appreciated that might help me catch up and get good figs! Thanks in advance

1. I dont know how far back you want to go. for the most part id stay completely current. HoT, WoS,DC75,Arkham, and Crisis are favorites of most people. you could cherrypick brave and the bold for pieces u felt like getting though.

2. it depends realy. for the most part even at .50 to a buck youd probly be hardpressed to find someone that would give up an SR for a set of commons. price wise when i look at it for a trade i usually value a common at .25 an uncommon at .50 to a buck, and a rare usually at 1-3, with the more popular ones like WoS Bullseye, nightcrawler, wolverine, etc a a buck or two higher. HoT Captain America kind of breaks that pricepoint though, as some people value him at a mid range SR price. Im sure that you can manage to work something out with your friend for a deceint ammount of extras though.

3. checking lots is alright. but im sure that you can find some generous people on the realms that would easily be able to accomidate a larger lot for you. Check for any regular high rated realmser like Hair10, Nogocat, or WiT. im sure they wouldnt mind helping you out. Even in the sale forums (looking for high feedback members), not everyone lists all their commons. im sure theyve got loads in bulk they would easily get rid of for a reasonable price.

4. one of my local shops still has HoT boosters, as well as crisis. ching ching :P

Hammer Of Thor and Crisis are going to be hard to come by. Singles are hard to find and going up in price each day. Everything else should be fairly easy to come by. You can get Avengers and Justice League boosters really cheap. Start there.

Arkham Asylum and Web of Spiderman both have a ton of great utility pieces and both sets were produced in large quantity and should be available pretty easily. You can pick up CUR sets for anywhere from $30-55 depending on the set usually. My local shop has HoT boosters for about $20 apiece.

Don't trade SR's for CUR unless you got money to burn. Like someone else told you, most people will not trade you a SR for your CUR haves. The CUR figures are abundantly available and often as sweeteners.

I was recently in your boat and a big chunk of my trades had offer up 5-6 old uniques/LE's for at least 30-40 CUR's from newer sets so it is possible to get a good collection going.

Shoot me a PM, I have a lot of CUR from Modern Age sets that I can part with, including a complete CUR set from Brave and the Bold with the LEs and map...

First, I would like to thank Naeblis and Decepticons for responding with relevant advice. My whole purpose was to determine the most price-efficient way to get caught up (because I think boosters would be a bit costly unless I'm looking for SR's)

Just want to make sure were understanding each other here. I'm saying that I might trade MY DC 75 SR Superman for a full set, or at least a LARGE, Bulk amount of CUR from other sets. And you're saying this is a bad idea? Because it seems like you're saying that people won't give me an SR, for MY CUR collection..which isn't really what I'm saying, but I guess the same principal could apply.

Now that were clear, if that's still a bad idea, what would you suggest? If you think I can get them for free, or maybe ask some people (locally or on this site) if they could donate some, that would be ideal!! But if not, how much do you think I should pay or what should I do to get a bulk amount of CUR's? The way I see it, if a full set of Commons, Uncommons and Rares go $15 or more, why not trade a $15 SR Superman, and if I decide I want him later, I could just pick him up again. But it seems like you guys are saying that's not a good idea...should I try to get an SR for my SR?

..OR, Like I mentioned before, I was thinking trading my old CUR's for newer ones. In fact, I think I'm going to remake my trade thread with that specific goal in mind.

Hey Decepticons,

So, when you say "help me out" do you mean trade, sell or donate to me? If so, how large of a lot are we talking about and what do you think is a reasonable price to pay? I have a friend (same one I might trade to) who I think would offer me a full set of CUR's (from any set other than HOT) for $20-$30 or so. Hopefully even around $15 if I can negotiate it down.

Lastly, I'm wondering which figs are well-known solid pieces that I should definitely make sure I get, either in trades or purchasing of lots.

Depends upon the person. You'd have to ask them specifically.

Anyways, 1 SR Superman for an entire CUR set? Simple math calls that a good deal for you....

Personally, I would trade an SR Supes for a whole CUR set in a heartbeat. You could turn around and buy it again for far less than the CUR set would cost you.

SI Namor is one you need to get for sure. He is pretty cheap for the hurt he brings.
