The damage is applied after the turn of the opposing character in the smoke. NS returns to her owner's team before MC is even resolved. By the time the characters end their turn, NS is friendly to them. I would say that when the power is checked, they are not opposing, so no.

The check for damage is made after the mind control ends, when Nightshade is again friendly to her team.
