View Full Version : Rules question on Uniques

This is a pretty basic question I can't seem to find addressed in the rules... but someone tried to convince me yesterday that it is illegal to have more than one Unique on a given team. Is this so?

Thus far, I understand that a team cannot contain arch-enemies or more than one of a given experience level of hero (i.e. identicals) but I have never heard anything about using more than one Unique.

Thanks

Alrighty... let me say this first...

A Unique is determined first by its base color: Gold or Silver ring.

Next, a the Uniqueness of a figure is futher determined by his NAME.

You can have more than one Unique figure on your team.

But you cannot have more than one Unique with the same NAME on the same team.

So, you can have Unique-Wasp and Unique-Black suit Spiderman on the same team.

You cannot have Black suit Spiderman on the same team with 6 arm Spiderman because the both have the same name.

This answer?

(Trying to get it right before an actual ruling from a judge....)

Ok, you can have more than one unique, just not the same unique. So you could have Nightcrawler and Nick Fury, but not two Nightcrawlers. LE's are considered Uniques, and as long as they have a different name on the base, they can be played together with other uniques.

You CAN have more than one hero of the same experience level on your team according to official rules. So someone is pulling your leg there as well.

As long as they were all different.

Correct?

Okay you are correct that Arch-enemies cannot be on the same team....

But you CAN have more than one of the same regular figure on your team....

So, you can have 20 Rookie Wolverines on your team.

The rule about dupes really only applies to Uniques...

Here is the low-down. Unless there is a "no-dupes" policy, you could have...

Elektra R (IC) - how ever many you want
Elektra E (IC) - how ever many you want
Elektra V (IC) - how ever many you want
Elektra R (CT) - how ever many you want
Elektra E (CT) - how ever many you want
Elektra V (CT) - how ever many you want
Elektra U (IC) - JUST ONE
Elektra Natchios LE (IC) - JUST ONE

You can have all of the R/E/V's because... you just can. You can not add an Elektra U (XP) because it would be two U's with the same name. It's okay to have the Elektra Natchios LE (IC) because she doesn't have the same name as the Elektra U (IC). It's okay to have R/E/V's and just one U with the same name, but not 2 U's or a U and LE. Them's da rules.

I agree with most of what I see here except this:

I know you can't have, say, 2 black-suit Spideys on the same team.

Are you sure you can't have a black-suit Spidey & a 6-armed Spidey on the same team?

This is copied right from the FAQ:

"Rulebook Corrections
This was added to the “Build your Force” section:
• A force can consist of two or more of the same character. The only exception to this is that only one Unique of any given character can be chosen for a force. A Unique figure may be teamed-up with non-Unique figures with the same name. Two players may have the same figures in their force, including
Uniques. A Unique figure has a silver experience ring."

I think character here was meant to mean figure. Otherwise they would have used the "same name" terminology they used in the following sentence.

Okay, let's really muddy the works:

Can I run IC U Wolverine on the same team as XP U Weapon X?

Can I run CT U Mr. Fixit on the same team with XP Savage Hulk?

Yes. Both have different names, therefore they are playable. You can have 53 Logans, 86 Wolverines (rev), 1 Wolverine U, and 1 Weapon X all on the same team.

I'm not the only one with that team?

Yeppers! The Unique Wolverine can either be ONLY the one with the sword in the black suit OR the Inquest Berserker Wolverine.

From the most recent FAQ:

Limited Edition Figures

Limited Edition figures are unique. You may have a multiple unique characters on the same team as long as they don’t have the same name. So, for example, you could play Spiderman and an L.E. Peter Parker on the same team.

One of these days I'm going to get that LE Peter Parker and LE Clark Kent from JonL. He braggs about his collection by putting them in his FAQs but does he pass them out. NO! I hope that you sleep well at night Mr. JonL. All snuggled up with your LE Peter and LE Clark. Just wait. One day you'll come home and find them Gone! Then I'll put them in my FAQs. :P

yes, but would you really want to since the point value would inhibit a decent team.

Elektra would be the best example
IC Unique elektra can not be on the same team as XP Unique elektra or the next unique elektra they will have in the next set

IC Unique spiderman can not be on the same team as CT Unique spiderman, or XP unique spiderman. unless they had a different name ie... black suit spidey or six arm spidey since they are all uniques and all named spiderman they cant be on the same team.

besides I think duplicates take all the fun out of team building

we have a rule of no dupes (like lots of places) and Logan and Wolverine are thesame character ergo thesame fig.

attack of the clones !:D is therefor not allowed at our shop.

I agree with multiple versions of a character being lame (unless they're generics & you're not being excessive). Just wanted to know in case I find myself up against this.

the best advice I can give you : ask (email/call) the judge of the particulair shop what the house rules are for that tournament, that way you can never go wrong.
In the end it's all up to the judge.
