View Full Version : Heroclix Consumer Poll 2
Check the box to indicate your preference with respect to various changes listed, that I would like to see. I would ask that NECA/Wizkids employees and retail store owners who do not purchase to play or collect, not vote.

I think you are using the word Power Creep when you should be using a different term. Characters today are designed better, but they typically cost more or have better synergy. Very few pieces actually have a lot of power creep, though it does exist. If pieces were designed lke older sets, people would not be happy.
Also, chases sell sets. They are good for business. I would not want Chases and Super Duper Rares, and I prefer the SDRs, but sets need one or the other.
This poll is proof once again that you can't please all the people all the time.

Building on the argument of "Ain't No Power Creep", I propose the following:
The best figures now are not significantly better* than the best figures of yesteryear. There is simply a higher percentage of figures that are good.
*WoS Nightcrawler vs. CT Nightcrawler, blah blah. Exception that makes rule and such.

Even with that, there is proof that powers cost more with several clicks in a row, and the new one has very few repeating power clicks, whereas the old one has HSS and SS in long runs.

eliminating blind boosters? seriously? I'm not playing a board game. I'm playing a COLLECTIBLE game. If I want to play games that don't involve chance boosters, i'll go buy board games.
As far as power creeps go, you have to keep new and innovative products on the shelf, or there is no reason for the consumers to purchase more.
Chase figures = sales, plain and simple. While they decided for WoS to change the chases last minute to SR's, it's highly unlikely (and bad for sales) for them to get rid of them completely. There will ALWAYS be some figures more rare than others, thats part of the competitive gaming world.

The Poll is really for people who purchase for playing or collecting, and not for anyone who works for NECA/Wizkids or only sells them at a retail store. The word business, gives me the impression you have some business interest. Is that the case?

Nope, but I studied business at school. And if they make decisions that are bad for business, we will not have new clix, so we should be concerned with it.
Of course I'd like full sets for less than the cost of collecting such a set the current way! That way WK can make less profit and go out of business faster. BRILLIANT! Did you say you were a "marketting genious" (sic), Super57?

Yes, they are toys made overseas, and it is my pesonal opinion that NECA would still make money and would not go out of business. They are just charging more and producing lesser quality, to maximize profit, but at the expense of their customers, which I feel will lead to their demise. What marketing experience do you have, or information do you have, that makes you right and me wrong?
Also, I beleive HC Realms prohibits Members from making derogatory comments to other members. Please refrain from doing so.

It is also proof that if you displease enough, you lose business. They key is how much is enough. I would say 25$-35% that I am seeing is significant in retail.

New sculpts and different dials and special powers and Set ideas, is what I consider innovative, and will keep people buying. Power Creeps was cited in many Articles as why people got disgruntled and stopped buying, after spending hundreds of dollars, to only see their older figures not compete as well. No room for Power Creeps. It will lead to their demise in my opinion.
Chase figures is another reason people have wrote they felft ruined the game.
A Collectible Game can work, but not with Power Creeps that make previous figures less competitive, and Chase figures, the deter people from buying.

Chase figures and 'elite' rarity levels have been proven time and time again in the collectible gaming market to SELL packs and figures. DC75th is selling out all over the place, hmm wonder if it has anything to do with 10 chase figures?!?!?
Power creeps keep the competitive gaming circuit, competitive. You need the newest buffest strongest figures sitting on the shelves in boosters, not in 3 year old sets. Otherwise you will see the same figures being played all the time, and the 'cheese' will never change. It'll just get old and boring.

Here's something which you may fail to realize. The VAST majority of players are not completists. They buy a few boosters from each release and trade for what they really want. They do not want to spend $200+ dollars a pop to get a bunch of figures for which they do not care.
Additionally, this is a collectible game. By its very nature some figures are harder to collect than others. Making everything the same rarity will remove the collectible nature of the game.
Also, I beleive HC Realms prohibits Members from making derogatory comments to other members. Please refrain from doing so.

As stated by many people, power creep (lower case, no "s") is a part of being a collectible game.
As stated by ChiRocker, a man you have stated is one who knows what he is talking about (when he disagreed with you), it isn't so much power creep as it is better design.
And like them or not, chase figures have caused sales to boom. There may be a player or two who claim to have left over chases, but they are certainly few and far between. And whatever business may have been lost there has been more than recovered by the others purchasing these sets to the point of sell out.
A Collectible Game can work, but not with Power Creeps that make previous figures less competitive, and Chase figures, the deter people from buying.
Power creep has to happen to some degree as the game evolves or the game will stagnate. In order for the business to continue, the company has to keep making improvements.
If the figures today were no better than those from Infinity Challenge, what motivation would I have to go buy new stuff?
As for chase figures, I've never seen anyone say "Oh, dear lord! There is no way I'm buying that booster!!! I might end up pulling a chase figure!!!"

I would love to see sculpts that have more than a guy just standing there... action sculpts like Atrocitus or sculpts with "other things/debris" on the bases makes the figures really come to life...
(Think E2 chase superman, Sinestro Batman, and Lamppost Batman sculpts... VERY COOL).
Chase figures are neat... but they are only neat if you get them.. when people dont get them , its "I hate them".. when they get them, its "YEY! THEY ARE AWESOME!"... the idea of a figure that is really unique and very limited is something that i like about the collectibility of Heroclix.
Power Creep.. It makes older figures harder to play with sometimes.. but then again, its still fun to play games with older figures if you have them.
A complete CURSR set for a set price... good idea.. but i think that the chase figures shouldnt be included, making people actually get out and get it on their own.
BIBTB figures are much more fun to get with the in store purchase. SEnding away just makes things complicated.
just my two cents. =)

I still think the game will not stagnate with the abscence of Power Creeps. There are hundreds to thousands of character ideas, including new Set and game mechanics ideas, new sculpts; and nicer remakes of older figures, from those designers from LOS to HOT, and new dials and special powers for each, that match the strength of figures from Avengers and HOT forward, that will keep people buying. They do not need to do Power Creeps and make prior figures less effective, to make people buy, and that is where they had gone wrong in the past and should not continue to do. Only those with that have the money may buy enough to get all Chase and Super Super Rares, and all figures, and that is a small percentage of buyers.

You do not have to add that to the Poll. You can see 128 people Voted and less than half of them want any of the suggestions, except more than half are in favor of keeping it a Collectible Game. You see, the Poll is really not the accurate of a representation of what all Heroclix players and collectors really want, since many of them, do not even know of HCRealms, or if they do know if it, may not participate, not to mention, there may even be employees of the manufacturer or their Disgtributors, and retail sellers, who may view and vote on HCRealms, would vote agaainst any opposition of the current business model, that allows them to make more of a profit off it, or off Chase figures; or some of the players may be wealthy enough to afford the figures and/or others do not care whether their figures are made obsolete through Power Creep, etc. You just do no know for sure and you do not know what percentage of HC Realms Voters make up the Heroclix retail market. However, if close to 50% of the HCRealms Voters say they do not want something, I would make the change if I was the manufacturer, since it could be a majority of Heroclix players and collectors.

Have you ever heard of a thing called a Sample Group? It is when a small amount of people are interviewed about a product, but the group is large enough so that the % of answers they give can be taken as accurate for the whole of everyone involved. HCRealms is way large enough to be an accurate sample size, so you cannot say that other people who do not view this site aren't being counted (which is stupid to say anyway, because you started this poll here).
One thing your results don't take into account is that the vast number of people who see your poll as too much of a waste of time to even vote on. Only 128 people thought your poll was not too much of a waste of their time to participate, and many of them probably thought it was too stupid to give an accurate answer. That said, this poll cannot, in any way, be seen as accurate data for anything (not to mention the extremely limited options and such).
All of that said YOU HAVE BEEN GIVEN VERY EXPLICIT REASONS OVER AND OVER AGAIN FROM PEOPLE ON HERE AS TO WHY THIS IS A WASTE OF TIME AND INACCURATE AND SUCH AND YOU STILL PERSIST TO SAY THAT YOUR PRESUPPOSITIONS ARE CORRECT!!!1!!11!

I'm sorry if some store in some little podunk town that you live in still has WoS boosters in stock. But geuss what? There were more boosters produced of DC75th then just about anything else, and it IS SELLING OUT If you bothered to take a look anywhere BUT your little store, you would see that. There are SEVERAL threads here on the realms about it selling out and being hard to find. Also, most of the online stores that usually offer cases for 150.00 have now bumped DC75th to 200.00 a case, BECAUSE THE DEMAND IS SO HIGH, and thats the online stores that still have product, most are completely sold out. But you wouldn't know that, because you have no clue apparently how to actually look something up.

Polls are places for opinions. If you don't want opinions from both sides of the fence, THEN DON'T ASK FOR IT
forums are about discussions, not just everyone sitting back and listening to some lunatic rant about something he has no clue about and instantly agreeing with him. People are entitled to their opinions, and this is the place that is desighned to let us talk about them.

man I hate hypocrites
What I want to see is all sculpts produced to the same quality.
I find it insulting that WK feels it's OK to fill the common/uncommon, & sometimes higher rarities, with crap sculpts.

This is not to imply you are stupid because of poor vocabulary skills (http://hubpages.com/hub/Grammar_Mishaps__Imply_vs_Infer), so please don't infer that.
Personally, I don't think there are stupid polls, only stupid people who create them... :cheeky:
I bet you don't have any chase figures. These Polls that make 'reasonable argument' about why a customer should get all the figures cheaply and immediately are ALWAYS started by folk who don't have what the want.
I voted KEEP chase figures and KEEP blind boosters. Mainly because I want to see the game thrive and continue.
You are proposing a marketing change which, by definition of the game existing NOW, is clearly flawed.
SORRY TO DISAGREE.
I just noticed in another post that you have been playing for a year. Why are you so concerned about 'Power Creeps' when you you have been playing since HoT?
I have been playing/ collecting since SN, and actually enjoy the fact that the game is EVOLVING.

I voted to keep the blind booster model, but all the other options are way too... absolute, for lack of a better word. For example:
Eliminate Power Creeps
Keep Power Creeps
I didn't vote for either because it's just too vague. Some characters are more powerful than older figures of a similar cost, but some of thos older figures are just plain awful to begin with. Most figures are better designed in general, but costed appropriately. There has been some "power creep" but for the most part, it's been merely an improvement on something that needed it. There still plenty of old figures that are very much worth playing.
Eliminate Chase figures
Keep Chase figures
Didn't vote for this, either. Wizkids has stated plainly that chases will be decided on a set-by-set basis - some sets will have them, some won't. The only real chases that bothered me were the Black Lanterns, since they were a fairly high-profile set of characters that were in large demand, and were a whole team of chases. If just one (Nekron, for example) was a chase and the rest in the rare to SR rarity, it would have been less annoying because there would be some readily accessible team options for the BL fans. WoS, however, had no chases. So they themselves are offering different options regarding chases. Which brings me to...
Elimination of 10 Super Super Rares with 1 per Brick (like the did with White Lanterns)
Keep 10 Super Super Rares with 1 per Brick
Again, how is this an issue either way? Is this even worth a poll option? They again changed up the chase format - for this set and this set alone. I don't care for them, personally, and that's fine - I'm not being forced to chase them. For those that do like them, they're much more readily obtainable and affordable than previous chases. And they sell product. Everybody wins. But to even vote on these options is, frankly, rather pointless.
Make slightly larger size Hand Sculpts like in Avengers - HOT Sets with actions poses
Keep the smaller size sculpts that may be digitally designed as seen in Sets since HOT
Honestly, I'm not even sure what you're getting at here. some sculpts are stinkers (Superman, Animal Man), and some are incredible (Alan Scott, Sinestro, Bane). This has been the case with every set, some more than others. I'm a fan of hand sculpting, as I think that certain details and textures are not achievable in a digital medium, but then look at the Blackest Night set - all are amazing sculpts. And all are digitally done.
Offer Complete Sets with all Chase and BIBTB figures for $250 or less
Dont offer Complete Sets and continue to keep the Blind Booster Model
Blind boosters are the way to go. I don't want complete sets. I may want anywhere from 5 to 20 figures in a given set, depending on characters. I can play in a sealed event or two for the sets I don't want much from, then trade a few singles, or I can buy a brick or even a Common, C/U, or C/U/R set from a set I know I'll want a majority of figures from. I like having the option to buy as much or as little as I want. And there will be "fast packs" in the future, according to Ziran, so that opens up more options to collect or not to collect specific teams.
Personally, it appears to me that these recent polls are an attempt to try and show that Heroclix is a failing license, judging from some options that are quite limiting and potentially skewed towards the negative. Most are showing quite the opposite.
May I suggest that rather than putting so much time and energy into attempting to find flaws in a product that is doing extremely well, sales-wise, just take the time to enjoy what we do have? Just a thought.

I don't like chase figures, but I like the game. I buy a few packs here and there and then mix and match from different sets to make a team.
As for power creeps, meh. I still have figures that are my go-to figures when I play Golden Age. Experienced and veteran Ghost Rider from Fantastic Forces are my good luck pieces. And they're good luck pieces because they're well designed and have stood the test of time. Sure, there are some ridiculously powerful pieces available these days, but there are ways to handle them if you play your other pieces right.

Boy, after reading all the love in this thread, I'm starting to regret voting in the first place...
Didn't choose between the power creep nonsense. Some figs are designed better than others, and some sets are designed to be more powerful as a set than others.
I would prefer to stay with a super-duper rare per brick instead of chases, but there don't really have to be 10 super-dupers...
And if WK wants as much as my money as possible, they will stick with the randomness. Selling complete sets will boost my bank account, lower their profits from me, and hurt the secondary market significantly in my opinion.
Anyway, now to never read this thread again. :) May you all have a wonderful day!

eliminating blind boosters?
There will ALWAYS be some figures more rare than others, thats part of the competitive gaming world.
agreed....:speechles

Elimination of 10 Super Super Rares with 1 per Brick (like the did with White Lanterns)
The White Lanterns are not Super Rares, they are, in the apparently preferred parlance of the realms, mini-chases.

The fact that the game has always had blind boosters, that the game got off the ground with blind boosters, that the game got resuscitated with blind boosters (and not go on hiatus because of blind boosters); I have a very hard time seeing why this is an issue.
Now, I would be greatly in favor of a 25 figure collector's set each year, just give us not-as-fancy packaging and make is $70.

He called them Super Super Rares. I call them Super Duper Rares. You call them Mini-Chases. I say all of these are viable.
That is the last time (most likely) that I will agree with/defend super57.
On the topic of power creep, I feel wizkids has done a fairly decent job at capping it. Some older figures are pretty bad, but the dial design is vastly different now than back then. For example, Characters are much easier to heal from earlier sets because dial length is much longer, and defenses drop lower. Modern day figures don't have extremely long dials.
And some old figures are still tough figures today. Yesterday I ran a two man team consisting of Dr. Manhattan (zen) and Thanos with Hamaker. (IC Thanos) and thanks to the crazy high av on thanos, he was easily my mvp. If I built a team around CT Vet Doom, i feel i could make a good team. The introduction of Special powers make some older figures feel obsolete, but when I buil a team, i don't shy away from my older figures at all.
If I had to offer 1 thing I like from the poll, I think that the White Lantern style of "Chase" figs was an excellent model for both sales and for the gaming community as a whole. It encouraged buying of Bricks, and you were almost guaranteed 2 WL per brick (Sinestro is guaranteed, plus you could get 1-2 per brick). I bought a case this time for the first time since Crisis and was very pleased. I say keep that model.

Didn't vote, no "Other" option.
I bet I'm not the only one that felt this, as IceHot previously noted.

I didn't bother voting. None of the choices made any sense, particularly the selection regarding "Hand Sculpts like in Avengers."
I really dislike these "sky is falling" polls when quite the opposite is actually happening with this game. I wonder if the OP is actually VGA?

Yeah, noticed he was banned...
What was the final straw? Was there one?
