I still have 2 cases of DC75 I haven't opened. I paid $180 for each with free shipping. I'm curious what the prices will be like in a year. I saw where a case of HoT just sold for $275 plus $14.99 shipping. I already have a complete set of White Lanterns with the following doubles:
Flash, Hal, Supes, AM, WW, Ollie
I also have at least doubles of all the SRs except:
Green Lantern, Wonder Twins, Hal, Sinestro
I actually only pulled 1 Hal, 1 Sinestro, 1 Wonder Twins and 2 Saint Walkers
This is from 5 cases and 9 boosters.
I'm debating opening the cases and trying to complete my 2nd set and selling it. I saw where a set sells for $599-699. If I open the boosters and pull trips well they are the high dollar WLs. I've sold Flash for $60 plus S/H twice, I had 4. The prices on White Lanterns does seem to be dropping off. What would my fellow realmsers do? I do love cracking boosters. I also considered using them for a sealed event if the venue owner would let me. 2 boosters $25 that way I play for free and have 2 boosters for prize support. There's 8 guys who show up and play now.

I am not sure why HOT would sell for almost 300 for a case. If anything I would suggest to keep one case to sell then use the other case to get the rest of the set through pulling and trading.

Truly this is just a lose lose situation no matter how you look at it.

I agree HoT was a horrible set. Bought 2 cases and ended up with 10 Super Rares. 5 in each case. I figured worse case scenario I could sell the cases for $225. I don't understand lose-lose situation. I originally bought the cases for sealed events but now I'm worried the owner at the venue won't agree with the situation. Now I'm tempted to open them to get the rest of a second set.

Now I am confused. Whose cases are these?

By lose lose situation I mean any time from now, the choice that you have made will not seem as prosperous as imagined.

He bought them and was going to run a sealed but sell his packs for the sealed maybe

Our venues are out of product. I didn't actually buy these cases. They were gifts. I got 6 cases total from 6 different people. Not counting single boosters I bought for sealed events. I figured I could charge $20-25 for a couple boosters. If I charge $25 then I play for free and have 2 boosters as prize support. The only problem is I don't know how the venue owner will feel about this. My other choice is to just sell them. I already have a complete set of Lanterns I pulled and traded plus extras of Hal, WW, Superman, Animal Man, Flash, and Ollie. I haven't pulled a single WL Ice. I've pulled 1 or 2 WL at every sealed event, only 2 events but that's 3 WL's.
I actually only need Wonder Twins, Allan Scott, WL Ice, WL Superboy, and WL Donna for another complete set. I figure at $150-180 a case my family spent $800-900 on Clix. I've made back $250 so far selling a few white Lanterns I had multiples of 3-4 of. WL Flash and WL Hal. I saw a thread where a poor guy pulled 5xSuperboy,3xDonna, and 2xAnimal Man. Well I pulled Halx3, Flashx3 Supermanx2, Olliex1, Wonder Womanx1, Donnax2, Animal Manx1, Superboyx1, and Bartx1. 5 opened cases and 9 loose boosters. Then traded to obtain Flash, Animal Manx2, Superman, Ollie,Wonder Woman x2, and Donna.
I have 1 unopened case that's mine and another I bought for a friend who hasn't picked up the case and said if I wanted I could sell it since he is having trouble with funds still. I don't have many wants and told everyone to get me DC75 for X-Mas. Once I had 3 cases they were all ordered online so I had to get a case from my local venue. Then another arrived and another and I bought my buddy a case because we thought that MM was gonna sell out. They didn't they sold out at $180 but raised the price and now have more at $199. If I knew I had another case coming I wouldn't have gotten that one. I also was hoping some family got GSX. I told my mom to combine my presents. Get me a case that will cover X-Mas and my B-Day. Then if he wants my Stepdad could get me a case of the other set that will cover my B-Day and X-Mas. It should have worked out that I got 3 cases of DC75 and 3 of GSX. It didn't everyone got me DC75 because GSX wasn't advertised on any of the sites I gave them.I sold 2 WL Flashes and bought a case from PopCol.
I've seen HoT sell for $275+$14.99 in the last 2 weeks. I saw Crisis sell for $425 for a case. By the same token I could have bought a case of Crisis last year for $245 but passed.

I'm more confused by the first post stating "I paid $180 each case with free shipping" then 2 posts later you say "I didn't pay for these, they were gifts, I got 6 cases as gifts."

I don't think it has much to do with the topic at hand, but I am completely lost. I'm kind of missing the point entirely of this thread - but yea open them. Sealed product is doing nothing for you right now - and if you think about it - if you wait an entire year, maybe the case is worth $20 more then it was now - if you are waiting a year to make $20, I guess I would wonder what kind of investment that is?

Its pretty good actually. More than 10% of the initial investment. Beats any bank rate or CDs.:laugh::laugh:

As to how the store owner would feel, I would think he would kick your sorry arse out the store :laugh::laugh: Unless the money you make goes all to him eventually, what people pay you for the sealed event could have gone to his bottom line. What you could do is ask him if you can hold the tourney as you described and any money you make you will give him. He will in turn will give you the same amount in store credit. This will be a win win for you and the store owner.

Didn't mean to confuse. I should have said I wanted to make at least $180 since when I got them that's how much they were going for. Since they were gifts I guess anything is profit but I keep thinking I could have just gotten money. It's not that big a deal. I guess I got 2 very expensive lottery tickets waiting to be opened.
I have noticed a drop in some of the White Lantern prices. Flash has been holding as well as Green Arrow. Well the auctions may be slipping but people will still jump up and take a more expensive BIN.
What is an entire set going for White Lanterns and all? As I said I only need 2 SR's and the low end White Lanterns.

Well yea if you are talking CDs or something safe. This isn't really a safe investment. We still don't have exact #'s of cases that were made, so it's possible there are and will still be cases out there, at least we might not see the limited availability of Crisis or HoT. I mean I know what you mean, but you know what I mean hahahaha.

Just open the damn cases dude! Hahahaha. I can't really tell what I would do, well I would open them, especially if you are sitting on almost a 2nd set of lanterns. If you get the ones you need for the 2nd set, or ones you can trade for the 2nd set, you then have a set of WL which would, I believe, make the opening of the cases justified - and probably more profitable then sitting on them and hoping they go up in price.

That exactly what I keep thinking. if I pull more Hal, Flash, Supes, Ollie, WW great. If I pull Ice, Supes Jr., Donna, Bart I complete a 2nd set. Animal Man is the one I don't want or need.

Yeah it's a tough choice.
If the set becomes scarce you may be able to sell a case for 250+
But if it sticks around and the buzz dies. It may go down in price like Arkham and SI Cases.
And opening them is a gamble. If you pull a good set of SRs and a High end WL you win. But you could end up with wonder twins and WL Ice. But you can play some sealed with friends which is always fun. Then sell the stuff.
I have to make the same decision as I have a case that I bought then completed my set from loose boosters and trades before I got it.

Open them. A year from now there could be some new hotness that makes the WL's seem like yawners. Most clix don't keep their value over really long periods of time (there are exceptions) either due to something new that's even hotter, rule changes, people grow tired with the comic book theme presented, whatever. Do what you can now. I think the odds are against you if you wait.

I am not sure why HOT would sell for almost 300 for a case.

I agree HoT was a horrible set.

And yet, few vendors (if indeed anyone) could keep HoT on their shelves at GenCon this year. WK charged MSRP for their boosters and that was the lowest price anyone could find HoT at in all of GenCon!

Even if someone hadn't just bought a case for close to $300, I would say that the arguement could be made that the market would support that. A LOT of folk missed out on that set that are either just returning to game or getting into it for the first time.

Since HoT is full of great and competitive pieces, many folk still want it. Will it be the same for DC75? Perhaps in the short term, maybe less so as time goes on.
