Okay boys and girls, here we have 128 of our favorite songs from the 80's, from some of our favorite artists, which will be pitted against one another, Match by Match, Round by Round, weeding them all out until they get to the FINAL MATCH, which will have our two Favorite 80's Songs face against one another to see which one emerges as Grand Champion of our latest Rock Wars!

As always, this TOC should be voted using a very simple criteria, which song do YOU like more, which do YOU feel you would rather listen to, and which would YOU say is ultimately more deserving to move on. Easy.

Pretty basic really. Songs are matched up, you all vote on the one you like more, the winner goes to the Next Round, and we do this over and over again until the Rounds are Over. I do ask that you all give objective opinions and votes here, listening to all songs and arguments here within this TOC with an open mind, beginning to end, and base your honest votes from that.

You know the drill by now, as always I ask that you please listen to each song again with each new match before voting. Thanks all.

So without further adieu, let’s get started with the First match of many matches to come, in HCRs latest Rock Wars, Favorite 80's Song!

I now give you:

AMBITIOUS
(Jeff Beck) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o2JXB4TkWfQ)

vs.

LOVERBOY
(Billy Ocean) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PD5qABz6r3Y&feature=fvsr)

So what say you all - which of these songs will move onto the Next Round, and which will have to turn in their hair-spray, make-up and parachute pants?

Hey, somebody did nominate Loverboy, just not the Loverboy I was expecting.

Ambitious

A pretty easy vote for Loverboy. The song Ambitious wasnt anything special to me, and was hurt by the extra sounds and dialogue bits that came from the video itself, IMO.

Not fussed with either, but I thought Loverboy was the better of the two.

Ambitious all the way.

Loverboy.

Maybe having Herv'e Villechaize show up makes Beck's video funny or whatever, but this isn't the video contest, it's the song contest.

Man, if this *were* a video contest, Billy Ocean's insane "Herbie Hancock redoes the Mos Eisley cantina" video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FdXryyFw7No) (which makes you wonder if no one in the creative process bothered to ask, "Umm, guys? Doesn't George Lucas have lawyers looking out for this kind of stuff?") would totally dominate. An easy vote for Loverboy to advance.

It was all of the extra noises in that video that caused me to look for a "cleaner" version of the song to nominate.

But yeah, that is one really weird "what the heck were they thinking?... No, what the heck were they smoking?!?!" video.

Ambitious was interesting, but I would have nominated Loverboy myself if somebody else hadn't. So an easy vote for Loverboy from me.

I love Loverboy!

Saw Jeff Beck with SRV in '88 or '89. Big fan.

I don't think Jeff Beck's current bassist was even born yet when this was originally released.

Ambitious

I don't have a real strong preference for either of these songs, so let's give Ambitious a boost.

Both were not top picks. If that was Caribbean Queen this would have been a landslide.

Billy Ocean for the win on this one.

The Beck video was amusing for the cameos, but not something I'd listen to again.

Loverboy to advance

That Mos Eisley Cantina-esque early 80s video is pretty funny to watch in retrospect.
