I am new to heroclix and I was wondering which of these 2 paths is better for constructing a team:
A. Buying a bunch of boosters and putting your best stuff together.
or
B. Read up on strategy for hours and then buy the singles that you want.
Thanks for your help!

Go with A. So not only will you be able to (hopefully) get some good figures, but then you'll be able to trade for what you might want or need. The only really good thing about B is that you'll get to know the rules better and faster. But you won't be using playing experience, which is a must in this game.

A Idid the same thing and I'm doing great. I almost have got all the figs. from the 3 sets so far except for like 13 or 14(from all sets) and I only baught bosters, no singles. Unless you want to spend more money on singles.
depending on what your idea of fun is. I made a big trade for all my old magic cards for an entire IC set. Before i had that many clix, making teams with just what i had was very fun. even though i lost a lot, it was still lots of fun just trying to get a decent team out of what you have. After i got all the new clix though, i still have fun making teams out of them, it was overwhelming at first with so many new figures, and i didn't want to read up on strategies first. Now all my friends who dont want to buy heroclix can play with me and there's plenty of figs to make multiple good teams(instead of me having to use all the figs i owned to make a 500 pt team). So making teams is still lots of fun for me because I don't read forums telling you waht's the "best" team. It's good for finding strategies and what to base a good winning team around, but personally finding out for myself is most of the fun of this game.
personally i'd just buy packs and starters. pulling random figs is half the fun too. buying singles just seems to defeat the purpose of htis game. trading for singles is more like what the creators of random pull games were thinking of, rather than some e-bay guy or some store guy selling singles for a ton.
I am new to the game. Personally, I love to buy starters and boosters, just for the surprise of what you might get. Do your research, as I am doing here, and pick up individual pieces. But for the "kid at Christmas" feeling, buy the booster packs.

Boosters is the way to go, untill your about three quarters of the way till set completion. Than i'd buy some singles for the rest.
You're better off buying boosters, unless you have a very specific interest (For example, you only care about collecting and fielding X-Men). Part of the fun of the game is mixing and matching figs, trying to build something fun out of what you have. It also gets you involved in trading, another fun social aspect of the game - If you consider hanging out with grown people who play with little plastic figures fun! :)
Beyond that, there really is no point in selectively purchasing figs if all you want are "the good ones." A very few clix aside, there really are no "Bad" or "Good" ones, because the point costs balance them out. Besides, there's more to fielding a good team than just good individual clix. Good team-building and strategic play are more important than having the "Best" figures.
Besides, unless all you're going to do is tournament play, you'd miss out on the fun of fielding some enjoyable, wacky teams. Comissioner Gordon and the Gotham City PD may not win you any LE figs, but it's an awful lot of fun to re-enact an episode of "Cops" by having them try to stop the Joker and a gang of Lackeys and Criminals from robbing the bank :D
So go out and buy yourself some a starter and some boosters and get your collection going. Then, if you see your one fig away from a cool team, buy it or trade for it.
One final word of advice: Strategy and planning are fun, but don't get too wrapped up in them. The perfect plan is never more than one bad dice roll away from falling apart, and the worst situations swing back to your favor with one good toss. Remember that winning is an objective, not a requirement.

I went with B
I ordered all of the ones that I wanted, and had them at hand when I needed them.
Im still missing a few, but not enough to justify the shipping costs that the online stores charge.
I bought my favorite characters, and then bought boosters so I wasnt disappointed in what I got, because I had the ones I really wanted.
Boosters are great for the shot at a Unique, and trading your doubles for what you really need.
Both are good, but Im impatient, so I went with B.

actually i got lucky, the local game dude here sells with REALLY screwed up price guis, the rookies are only a buck, the experianced are 2 and the Veterans are 3 bucks, then the uniques average 10-20 bucks at most! :D :D :D

A. Is the way to go. You will learn to develop strategies with what you have and that will make you a better player. I see lots of the same figures every tournament. I have had more fun trying to make do with what I have then worrying about having the "dream" team of others. Best thing to do money wise is to choose a good online company like Icon USA to buy your figs cheap. I only by rookies and experienced figures on a single basis if they are less than $2.

I usually make one or two large purchases when the sets first come out, see what I get, pick up 3 or 4 more boosters, and then fill in the remaining figures that I want.
