View Full Version : Which 80's cartoon property would you like in Heroclix.
T. Paul Stiles
01/15/2011, 23:49
Inspired by the sci-fi and horror poll, I thought I'd see if anyone would care for 80's action cartoon characters.
Now I've listed the 80''s cartoons I used to watch and I apologise if there are any glaring omissions to such an awesome list :)
I didn't include Robotech, Transformers and Voltron: Defender of the Universe only because of the scale issues. Too big. I also didn't include M.A.S.K. and Dino Riders because they were more about the vehicles.
Anyway, let me know what you think.
T. Paul Stiles
01/15/2011, 23:54
Okay, I screwed it. I meant for you to be able to choose as many as possible, but instead it's set to only one choice. Is there a way I can change it?
Glen Quagmire
01/15/2011, 23:54
It's only allowing me to vote for one, so I went with Thundercats. I'd also buy the He-Man/She-Ra stuff too.

i picked other because i can explain the size issues of transformers & robotech.
alternate dimensions that are much smaller than the marvel & dc dimensions.

Silver Ghost

Galaxy Rangers! :)
AlienFlanders
01/16/2011, 00:14
I voted other because there are a bunch I would like, GI Joe, He Man, Bike Mice to name a few.
Bah, everyone only needs to vote once because Thundarr the Barbarian is the correct answer! DEMON DOGS!
But, seriously, no, you can't fix it, all you can do is close this poll and start a new one.

C&D isn't from the 80's.

I voted for He-man, as that would be my top pick. She-ra (would would basically be a part of the He-man set), Thundercats, and G.I. Joe would also be awesome to have in clix form. I always wondered what kind of power set a He-man Clix would have, and I think if I ever get into modding, he will be the first piece I would make. Let's hope we get a real one!

I voted Thundercats but, What about Harvey Birdman?
BIRRRRRRRRRRRDMAN!!!!!!!!
EDIT: Well I looked it up on Wikipedia and that explains why it isn't listed. It is a late 60's castoon. How did I ever see this show???? The reason I assumed that is was 80's is because I saw it growing up in the 90's

I can think of quite a few I'd love to see in Clix form (and really wanted to see in the never made ToonClix):
Conan the Adventurer
M.A.S.K. [Mobile Armored Strike Kommand] (Not only would you get humans with masks that provide powers, but the Vehicle mechanic would get a huge boost)
G.I. Joe
TMNT (always popular)
He-Man/She-Ra (although She-Ra would be a boost to attract more female players)
Spiral Zone
Thundarr the Barbarian
Go-Bots
Transformers (so we can have the TF/GI Joe crossovers) ;)
Bravestarr, definitely (Thirty-Thirty would probably be the most popular choice)
Blackstar
Jayce and the Wheeled Warriors (maybe; needs a vehicle mechanic to really work)
and many, many more....

While I'm a MUCH bigger fan of the other shows on the list, I had to go with Defenders of the Earth. Mandrake would be a Mystics piece a la Zatanna. The Phantom would be a good, stealthy, rangey, side of close combaty piece. Lothar would be. . . I can't remember. Power Man knock off? and then there's. . . .
FLASH! AHHHHH! Savior of the Universe! :)

Voted for Masters of the Universe but if Transformers, Ninja Turtles or Captain N had been on there then Skeletor would have gotten nixed...
I voted for Silverhawks which would top my list but also Defenders of the Earth (but they have to do the villainess), GI Joe, Transformers, Space Ghost, and Thundercats (HO!)

Technically, Space Ghost was also run in the late 1960s, so it doesn't qualify, either.
Birdman, Space Ghost, the Galaxy Trio, and one or two others were once run during the Boomerang hour that originally aired on Cartoon Network before it became its own network (owned by CN).

transformers: could be another giant set. Some werent that big.
Captain N: game Master- the kid sucked into a video game and used nintendo controller to alter reality.
Voltron: all the cats could do some sort of morph mode and bring in Voltron.
And definately TMNT

Now I didn't include Ninja Turtles because we really don't want them based on that cheese-ball cartoon. If anything, we want them from the comics, yeah?
Galaxy Rangers! :)
Inhumanoids of course.
Never heard of these ones. My apologies, but there's no way they're as cool as the ones I mentioned (just playing. But i don't think those ones reached Australia in the 80's).
I voted for He-man, as that would be my top pick. She-ra (would would basically be a part of the He-man set),
I included her as a separate choice as she has her own rogues gallery (which IMO is much cooler than He-Man's) and could probably support her own set.
I would buy all of them

For sheer coolness - Thundercats. For playability - He-Man.
Also, you missed:
Galtar and the Golden Lance
Rocklords
Visionaries
The Bionic 6
Inhumanoids
The Centurions
But, yeah - the Masters of the Universe lineup would be the most playable due to the variety of characters. This would be especially true if The Horde were included as well.

Now the only one I know from your list is Rocklords, and the reason they're not on the list was, even as a kid I was like "Hang on, they turn into rocks? Then what? Some kid skims them on the river?" Always thought they could have tried a little harder.
And I always thought She-Ra's enemies were much cooler than He-Man's.

robot chicken did a parody of what i believe is the theme song(i've never seen the show so i wouldn't know for sure) that says that the thing that they turn into are worse than before. and mentions that they're helmets not masks. and that command isn't spelled with a k.

All of these are also good (except for Rock Lords; they should have been left to the Go-Bots movie and forgotten after that).
I would also add (in addition to my previous list):
Bucky O'Hare and the Toad Wars
Chuck Norris: Karate Kommandos (YES! A reason for a Chuck Norris Clix! HAHAHA!)
Danger Mouse
Dinosaucers
The Real Ghostbusters
Mr. T (I pity the Foo who don't want no Mr. T Clix)

Sky Commanders
Starcom: The U.S. Space Force

If Defenders of the Earth is what I think it is, it has the golden age/serial characters from the 30's and 40's like Flash Gordon, The Phantom, etc. Those would be awesome to be made.
Honestly I would like any of them to be made, though I doubt obscure cartoons like C.O.P.S. and Bravestarr would be popular enough. Clearly Wizkids should aim for TMNT first and foremost.
The weakest I think would be GI Joe since most of the characters are just guys with guns.
He-Man and the Masters of the Universe would be cool with all the unique powers and characters.

Nah, it's likely because "Hanna-Barbera's World of Super-Adventure (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hanna%E2%80%93Barbera%27s_World_of_Super_Adventure)" used to air all the time in the '80s, usually alongside "Super Friends". It was all ish from the '60s repackaged for us '80s kids. And for the record, I would love to see all the Hanna-Barbera superheroes made in 'clix-form: Birdman and Space Ghost especially.

01/16/2011, 06:32
i think transformers would make an awesome set. they would all just be giants......kinda cool to think about strategically if you played regular pieces. but i dont think they are completely off the grid. there is something that could be done to fit them in this game, and there are certainly pieces out there that could tool just about any transformer anyone could think of.......Odin, some sick superman pieces, i think theres a silver surfer out there that is pretty super tough, and any giant size piece should be able to handle a transformer.....just to name a few. i also voted for g.i. joe and thundercats....those were my 3 faves fromt he 80's :)
T. Paul Stiles
01/16/2011, 06:55
Now that you mention it, maybe they could be giants with the Morph ability to transform into their vehicle forms? Maybe?
Anyway, my apologies for not adding them to the list :)

CopyCATS, because no one else remembers them. or also the Dragon Warrior cartoon, that was SO short lived. But transformers would be EPIC. Giant planet eating guy in purple pants versus a giant planet eating robot. TMNT is a must, it... it just has to happen. period. Hell, id KILL to see a Megaman set! KO a figure and gain his Special Power or Trait!
Hmmm... was Samurai Pizza Cats from the 80's? or that really goofy Sonic the Hedgehog one? HSS with 50 movement.... and 1 damage. Fear the toughness, Sonic! But give him every other click with Leap/Climb and an SP that deals penetrating damage.
the possibilities of hilarity are endless when you add in a robotic monkey. Especially with Detective Chimp getting his own click. But what to do about Cluck and Grounder..... would best be a Duo figure... but a robot chicken click on its own.....
ITS ALIVE!

The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles,
Tho I would rather their HeroClix be based more off the comic book,
and not so much the 80's TV show. But a mix of both would be cool,
as well as the movies and 2k3 Show. A TMNT HeroClix set
would have to represent 25 years of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle history,
the good and the bad.

I was torn between Thundercats and Space Ghost.
I choose Thundercats because they would have more characters to chose from and that also would have some playability for the game (Powerfull Villians, AE, Duos & Vehicles). Space Ghost would pretty much be the only character worth having (Stealth with Range).
Eyes Of A Hawk
Ears Of A Wolf
Strength Of A Bear
Speed Of A Puma!
Superclone
01/16/2011, 08:44
Once they make a real Eastman and Laird TMNT set you can have anything else you want :)

I don't care about The Defenders of the Earth per se, but I'd love to see some of the characters, Flash Gordon, The Phantom, Mandrake, etc.
Gargantua
01/16/2011, 10:08
I voted for Space Ghost, but thinking I could select more than one. My first choice would have been Defenders of the Earth. That was the one with Mandrake the Magician and Lothar, and the Phantom, and Flash Gordon, right? I've been pulling for the old pulp characters for a while.

VictorySaber
01/16/2011, 11:47
Gotta say that if I had to take only one set, the Eye of Thundera would be in clix format and shortly. Granted, Lion-O's clix(s) either would have to start with a base 2 damage, and then climb to a 4 serving as when The Sword of Omens expands from dagger to full size sword... Tho I'd not be surprised to see a 3rd Earth togs Lion-O, and then a post-"The Return" one, with the full blue jumpsuit, with amped up values to represent the training he underwent inside the Book of Omens...
And oh, the fun one could have with just Mum-Ra's dials. with a special power on the last click "There Will Be... Another Time" or " Mum-RA, the ever-living!" that could give you the choice to yank him from play, effectively robbing your opponent of those victory points- only for the phase 1 and 2 Mum-Ra's. I.e. not the super-charged monster that stood 3 to 4 times lion-o's height in the one season finale.

I voted for GI Joe. I was just discussing customs with a buddy last night.
I would have loved to vote for more...
Thundarr, Inhumanoids -a separate Horrorclix crossover game with
full compatibility would work best, Defenders OTE would be really
cool and very easy... And yes TMNT based on the comics...
Why is Robotech not on this list?
Okay. One. You got the wrong kind of poll and only allowed one choice to be selected.
Two.
Where's the frickin' Ninja Turtles, man?
I guess I'd also get Masters of the Universe stuff. Grumble.

EDIT: Ah, I see the thread's ahead of me.
The bigger guys like Optimus and Ultra Magnus are about the same size as a sentinel so they would need the :g-colossal: treatment. Devastator would be Galactus size and Metroplex can be scaled down I suppose...poor Unicron wouldn't fit on any map. :ermm:

Defenders of Earth!!!!!
Come on, it has ACTUAL classic Pulp Heroes in it that I have actually wanted for heroclix since its creation.
The Phantom, Mandrake the Magician, Flash Gordon, Ming the Merciless, The Sky Band!!!!!! All there, just disguised as an 80s cartoon ;)
redskindavyd

I like the thundercats HOOOOO !!!! lol but you should do a 90's poll also b/c I'd really like to see some TMNT collectors set or a OG power rangers set lmao !!
My brother really loved ThunderCats, but I was more into He-Man, so... I guess that's a draw.

01/16/2011, 15:41
i know they're not from the 80s, but i need to mention them: Gargoyles! stone by day, warriors by night.
GI Joe would be my first choice, but I also wouldn't mind seeing transformers on the list. They would be really cool with the AE mechanic changing from Robot to vehicle and back again.

You forgot:
Shmoo
Super Harlem Globetrotters
Rubic
Gem (She's totally outrageous)
Mr. T and the T- Force
Rambo
I would love a 60's set with :
Mightor
Herculoids
Birdman
Space Ghost
And that Genie with the 2 kids
My choice would have to be Thundercats. A Mumbra clix would be pretty sick. Though a Fakor from He-man would be awesome.

Just a thought. Now if they'd just release it on DVD. :(

I picked other for Transformers.
I'm a Bionic Six fan. Goofy and fun, you could get everyone done in short order.

Rambo
Real Ghostbusters

Oooooooh, forgot about Visionaries and Inhumanoids! They'd be great too, as long as Horrorclix made a comeback being completely compatible as well.

It would only allow me to choose one... so I chose Other.
"Other" meaning Masters of the Universe, She-Ra, Thundercats, Ghostbusters (bonuses to attack or damage against Mystical people), and Space Ghost.
Especially the first three though.
Although, I'd prefer that the Masters of the Universe minis be based off of the 2002 remake, the Thundercats ones to be based off of the 2011 remake series (perfect tie-oppurtunity), and for the Ghostbusters ones to include the player characters from the recent video game.
What scale issue there are a lot of transformers like Cliff Jumper and Bumble Bee who are human sized and a set chock full of giant robots would be fun especially if they use the morph mechanic to transform into vehicle mod. You know you want Rumble with the minion Keyword and all the tapes would be special objects that can be given a power action to to morph.

Much as I wanted to Vote for G.I.Joe I could not let Defenders Of The Earth slip away!
With Defenders Of The Earth you get the Ghost Who Walks The Phantom, you get Master of Magic & Mystery Mandrake The Magician, you get savior of the universe Flash Gordon, and Strongman Lothar plus their younger successors and then Ming The Merciless the villain world conqueror and from him Garax, the Sky-Band, and Hadea.
Oh this is classic Heroes and Villains!
Did you know that on the figure's box Lothar was called the "Caribbean Ninja"?
