It has been announced that coming later in 2011, there will be Lord of the Rings Heroclix!
You can read more here:
http://heroclix.com/blog/2011/01/18/two-games-to-rule-them-all/
So are you for or against Lord of the Rings Heroclix?
The article says that it is compatible with other Heroclix products.
What do you all think?

I'm for it. I have no problem playing a scenario where the Fellowship of the Nine have to cope with Felix Faust and Baron Mordo.

I like LotR. I like Heroclix. I also like mustard and chocolate, but i wouldn't mix the two. If it's done well, I wouldn't mind LotR clix.

I wouldn't mix mustard with chocolate but Gandalf with Dr. Strange? I'm all for it.

I voted "No Thanks", not knowing it was compatible with Heroclix. My vote would change to "Other" if I had known.
I will get a big kick out of crushing that evil, evil cast of characters with Bane.

Might be interesting for the maps but I can't justify getting into another collectible game at the moment its hard enough keeping up with all the Heroclix purchases I want to make before the next set comes out. With that in mind I probably wouldn't buy boosters and I'm unlikely to shell out for the campaign edition.

I dig it.

I disagree. The more audiences Wizkids can reach, the stronger the game becomes. If you don't want to buy the LotRclix, don't. I doubt the fact that they're compatible will make them heroclix tournament legal so there's no worry there. The most it affects is private games. I think making them Hero clix compatible is great. They should have done that with Haloclix and Horrorclix as well as Gremlinsclix. It would have sold a lot more of those franchises.

im afraid they won't sell to the bigger audience and that will put wizkids in the position of not looking like a big enough profit to neca who will then push it out like topps did.

DC and Marvel HeroClix are comic book games; LotR HeroClix will be a literary/fantasy game.
Combining the three will be an awesome game. ;)

I vote other cause I need more information...
I need to see sculpts, stats, the definitive answer on compatibility, and what new rules are implied on the figures.

Whilst I enjoyed the films, even though the 6 endings of the final film were a drag ( crown the hippy, end the film ) I think GW have flogged it to death game wise.
I'm hoping, by compatible, they mean with horroclix and rockclix etc and not Heroclix.
I'm also hoping that the money/time chucked at the project doesn't reduce the Heroclix out-put or indeed put clix at risk of ending if it flops.

Wizkids didn't go under because of heroclix, they went under because of failed products like haloclix and horrorclix. And I think horrorclix failed because it wasn't compatible.
I do need more information on this thing though, especially dials. I can't wait for the dials to come out, and then for the rabid, loyalist fanboys to rip them to shreds because Gandalf is obviously more powerful than Dr. Strange, but his dial doesn't reflect it.
Or why does Frodo have Super Senses on a roll of 3-6? Because he's got the Ring, that's why. After he makes Supersenses, then he can roll another D6. On an even-numbered result, he takes an unavoidable damage.
I'm definitely interested in this game.

Point of clarification: WK didn't "go under" for those reasons either, as popular as it is to cite them. In fact WK was reporting profits based upon their latest sales/products when TOPPS decided to unilaterally and suddenly close them down and sell them.
Just thought I'd clear the air a bit.
Carry on.

I honestly don't care about the brand itself, but it would drive up interest in the main clix game that we play by the cross compatibility and that means more money spent on better sculpts and better product....but I feel we may get jilted when an Aragon clix can single handedly take down a Superman/boy Prime.....but we'll see......

Outside of anecdotal evidence based upon my personal interactions with staff, and the articles cited in Sparks4289's recent post (http://www.hcrealms.com/forum/showpost.php?p=5249462&postcount=38), I'm not certain what will convince you (or your friends depending on who is taking what positions).
At the end of the day, all I know is what I've been told and have no reason to doubt it.
Which is, you know, good enough for me. ;)
(Also, Tuttle was long-gone at that point. He had left some time previous to head up an initiative over at SOE)

I voted "Other," because I see the good, the bad, and some of the ugly.
-The good: New Heroclix product that's actually compatible with current Heroclix rules
-The bad: This is not a comic book property, which is sure to turn off some players already
-The ugly: Product expansion has been historically a bad thing for Wizkids
Initially, I was against it, but until I see who/what we're getting specifically and what the price tags are, I'll hold judgment.
Also, I'm not against playing a "fellowship" team and subbing in some comic book characters, such as...
Green Arrow for Legolas
Persuader for Gimli
Pip the Troll for (name of a Hobbit)

I like LOTR, but I cant see them being compatible with heroclix, and I also know, at least where I'm at that maybe 1 or 2 people besides me would be interested in LOTR Clix.
As much as they will probably look great I probably will pass on the game.
At the most I'll pick up the main characters figures and just keep them. Just like I did haloclix (2 Spartan's, Sarge, & Cortana) and sportsclix (Some Oakland A's and St Louis Cardinals players).

so ppl are against this because this is a comic book game. so in what comic so you see deadshot, black alice, and 18 mary janes running around working together. until i see that issue on the shelf, they can make whatever they want.
i told justin this weekend that he better make anything that can actually battle the heroes and villains work with clix. i told him i'd love to see haloclix actually work with heroclix. i also told him i would have loved to whip some butt with freddy, jason, and michael jackson!! it's a stupid move to make a new product that is just like your best selling one, but not make it compatible. why make your core players have to invest in something new when it can just be an extension of the game they already have? i look at all this new stuff as downloadable content. you don't have to buy it to still play. will some of your friends buy it, and love it, maybe. you know the dials will be sick. i can see ppl caving in once they see the dials. if they have generic orcs i'm all over it!

Better yet, why not create an all-new "core" (or corps? LOL) of customers?
I see no reason why current HeroClix players must presume this is for them, or will actually have any impact upon their local tournament scene other than they just want to kvetch sbout something.
Frankly, I like the idea of WK exploring other IPs in order to broaden their overall market share. Making the new stuff backwards compatible just seems like WK has been listening to folk. :classic:

If 3-4 members of my 7-8 member player group request cross-compatible "anything goes" tournaments (which, going by past speculative conversations, they will), then it will.
I said this in the other thread and, sorry, it remains an annoyance for some of us.
If my envoy says when the time comes that "we're doing superheroes only," I'll come back and edit this post.
Bottomline, people seem to like this or dislike this. I'd only ask that both sides at least TRY to understand each other.
I definitely understand why people perceive this as a good thing, yet many of the posts I've read in response to people thinking it is (or CAN be) a bad thing follow the OH SO CREATIVE "Waaaaaagh! Yer a WHINER!" theme.

On the one hand, you have folk saying this is awesome/I love it/etc...On the other hand you have folk saying this will either "kill WK again" or that they will be "forced to play against figures they don't want to", neither of which has any basis in fact until we at least see the game.
I understand the "other side of the debate" just fine; it's mostly supposition and speculation based upon, well, nothing of substance.

I understand the "other side of the debate" just fine; it's mostly supposition and speculation based upon, well, nothing of substance.
Aside from the facts that:
1. The press release says the figures "will be compatible with other HeroClix miniatures games." - Racking my brain to figure out what that could possibly mean other than "Hey, use these with your existing HeroClix figures!"
and
2. If they are cross-compatible, chances are that at least SOME people who don't want to mix themes will have to if they want to play at their current venues.
Also, 3. If all internet discussions were based on objective fact, there'd be no internet discussions.
I wonder if Gimli would be as stoked about Galadriel once he gets a look at Power Girl or Gamora?

1. The press release says the figures "will be compatible with other HeroClix miniatures games." - Racking my brain to figure out what that could possibly mean other than "Hey, use these with your existing HeroClix figures!"
But it doesn't say you "must" play them with your existing HeroClix figures, or that you "will" play them with your existing figures. All that means is that you can, if you choose, play them with your HeroClix figures.
To me, that just means that WK has heard everything that everyone has said about "80% compatibility" being a mistake, and has worked to correct that for future IPs, not that folk will be expected to play these figures in their DC/Marvel HeroClix events.
and
2. If they are cross-compatible, chances are that at least SOME people who don't want to mix themes will have to if they want to play at their current venues.
If you cannot make a cogent argument against this at your Venue, I don't see how you're hoping to do so here.

Perhaps I have higher standards then? ;)

Even two years ago, HeroClix (whichever descriptor you want to throw in front of it) was a superhero-centered miniatures game. Now, it is looking like it will be a medium for NECA's various properties (can't see them stopping now).
Cogent argument is simple: if I wanted "anything goes," I'd play GURPS or MUGEN. I didn't/don't, so I play HeroClix.
If cross-compatibility is pursued to the point that it is tourney-legal to blur the lines, then I'll have to get used to it being an occasional (from my perspective) inconvenience or just slowly phase it out.
So, I guess my main gripe is that if cross-compatibility becomes the new norm (again, IF - I'm well aware that we don't know specifics etc.), and I'm not a fan of the various sub-themes introduced, then I'll either have to adapt (which I don't see happening) or cut down my playing.
Two years ago, I wouldn't have had to consider this possibility.

After a couple minutes of thinking, I'm up in the air between "Okay, guess I'll have to plan for a little more money to spend on HeroClix this year" and "Wait, why is Frodo fighting Superman in space?"
Of course, this is all moot if "compatible with other HeroClix" means something different to WizKids than it does to me. The quote about the board game "following in the similar format of our other HeroClix board game products" is pretty confusing to me since WizKids has never produced a "HeroClix board game."

01/18/2011, 17:47
For people wondering how expensive it will be, Justin said at clixation that every thing that is created in a non-random packaging is generally $4 a fig. That is the general amount that Wizkids says that they can make money on them.

I agree with all of these posts. I love Street Fighter, I love Lord of the Rings and love other cartoons, movies, books, etc, but I don't want them mixed with my Heroclix. With each new property that NECA brings into the Heroclix line it just helps to confirm my opinon that they are more interested in the quick money grab more than anything else and that all of these properties and sets will lead to an over saturation of the game which can't be a good thing. Again, just my opinion on the subject.
