View Full Version : Regen and Breakaway

I've always played that to do a move action when adjacent to enemy you need to breakaway, even if this move action is a power, such as regenerate, for example.
However I was reading the FAQ (I find summat new every time) I found:
A break away roll is required only when physically moving a figure adjacent to an opposing figure into a different square.
Do not roll for breakaway unless you are actually attempting to move the figure.
So that means Wolfy could regenerate whilst next to Sabertoff without breaking away.
Or a model in a square with an item could pick it up, even if they are adjacent to enemy.
I keep seeing rulings that go against this and I'm confused!:( (as ever!)
Anyone care to clarify?
:)

There were some confusing wordings in trying to get the proper rulings across, I know.
You need to roll breakaway when you are performing a move action which is actually dedicated to movement. Regeneration, Barrier and Force Blast, for example, are move actions which specify that the character does not move---they do not require breakaway. Essentially, they require move actions because they aren't combat, but aren't the real definition of movement.
However, things such as picking up an object or taxiing a passenger, even if you don't leave your square, still must occur during movement and therefore it would require breakaway to perform the move action in which they happened.

That makes sence, thanks HC :)
On a side note, watch for judges that allow a person to sue super strength and hit without breaking away. I've encountered this and had heated discussions. Just be sure to look for it.

So can you use Regeneration while you are adjacent to enemy figures?

Just to be clear here, if you are adjacent to a figure, and are already holding on object, you can use Super Strength to hit your opponent with that object. The only time you need to break away to use Super Strength is to pick up an object.
Of course. I was talking about a dumpster. It really hurts when the judge lets juggernaut pound you over the head repeatadly with a dumpster. Thank god for mastermind eh?

In this case, the judge is breaking 2 rules - or rather, allowing 2 rules to be broken.
A) You can't pick up an object without breaking away - it's part of a move action.
B) Since the Juggie doesn't have charge in any of his incarnations, he can't pick up the dumpster and attack you in the same round. Technically, if he hits you with it, he can push the following round to break away and pick it up, and that's the end of his action. Then he passes the third turn to clear his action tokens, and assuming you stuck around for 2 turns, he can hit you again on the 4th turn.
Yes, I know. But that's ok. He only managed to kill an avalanche before my doom took him out in the second round of attacks

No one's mentioned that the dumpster is destroyed after the first attack with it, hit or miss.
"An object is destroyed once it is used, even if the attack is unsuccessful. Remove the object token from the map and place it out of play."

The dumpster doesn't get destroyed when it is used. That is its special ability.

Just to clarify, the dumpster from the 3D objects packs don't get destroyed when it is used.

True, the dumpster doesn't get destroyed, but you do have to place it in a figure adjacent to the figure who just got pasted by it, I believe. I think Shade was talking about Juggernaut pounding him with a dumpster one turn, then doing it again on the next turn because he kept holding on to the dumpster instead of placing it in an adjacent square.
