View Full Version : If the full GSX set list was revealed, would it affect your pre-orders
If the GSX set list was revealed when the set was announced, how would affect your pre-orders?

I didnt get a pre order in. But i think i would have tried if i had seen the spoiler. Some good stuff in here. I bought 1 brick plus 7 for the last set and got everything i really needed - some Wl and a hal jordan sr. Thats good enough for me. Ill still be trying to get a brick of Gsx

My order remains the same... I'm not getting any =P
I have already given my thoughts on this set elsewhere, but here they are again:
This set is awesome if you are an X-Men and/or Nextwave fan.
This set sucks if you are not an X-Men or Nextwave fan.
I personally think the set is too closed themed (though if a set this close themed was made for a Teen Titans set, I would be ecstatic). The lack of diversity hurts it more than helps, because you have to factor in the amount of X-Men fans that only ever get a CUR set and 3-4 SRs (like myself) who now feel that they will either have to shell out much more on this set than they normally would, or pass on figures they really want.
So who this set appeals to: X-Men and Nextwave fans who are completists.
All that said, it was a great idea to spoil the list this early, because players who may want to pass on this set now still have time to cancel any pre-orders, and people who are X-Men fans can pre-order more (if they can afford it).
I don't think this was a bad idea for WK/N, but I don't think it was the best decision to make a set this closed.
I ordered a case and then got an offer to purchase the two extra super boosters. I might go ahead and get at least one more brick, though.

I like the X-Men. I used to be a big fan (mainly because of the cartoon) :)
With this set the only purchases I will be making are:
2 or 4 boosters: to go with my location's 1 or 2 sealed events.
Singles: Based on keywords I want to add to, and X-Force because I got that out of WoS and Deadpool is awesome.
That said I may pick up one or two just because they are characters I like or based on the dials.
I am more of a DC fan myself (Lantern geek!) so the last set was pretty cool. DC 75th was my first ever brick purchase.

I did not pre order, but as a huge X-fan, if I had known the setlist I'd have pre ordered. Sorry to the people who aren't Xmen fans, but this set is dang near my dream set. In fact, if the next set was just a ton more X characters like this I'd pre order a case.

i didn't perorder a case as i it was coming out close to a convention i will be going to and deicded to spend money elsewhere. I would get buy boosters cause of the larger minis.

Actually, I'm a huge NextWave fan but even I'm dissapointed in the set.

exactly as I said in another thread to another. If this was a theme you liked you would be complaining about the sub theme characters.
I might have ordered a bit less. I don't know. There's certainly stuff in this set that I could pass on/only ever need one of....
But the super booster contents (whenever those are spoiled) will provide the info I need to answer this question.

I didn't preorder anything because I'm not an X-Men fan.
The set list didn't change my mind about the order, seeing as I only want 9 pieces from it, 5 of which are NEXTWave.

I was going to just get singles from Woolverine games if I hadn't seen the list or poster...now I'm just about inclined to order a case or 2 if I have the funds to do it...I've never wanted to do that with any other set before seeing the poster and set list for GSX....I'm am super stoked...now all I need is to see the dials to cement me in that decision!

This is only the second set I've ordered online, and the name of the set and the official previews were enough to convince me to order a brick (also the knowledge that an in-store purchase is not required to get the brick figure). I didn't place my order until yesterday, but I was already 95% sure I was going to do it, and the poster's reveal was just the excuse I used to convince myself to put down the money. I would have done it anyway, just maybe a couple days later.
If the entire set list had been released one or two months ago, though? That I'm not sure of. I certainly wouldn't have placed an order back then, and with the set list released that early, it's possible that some of the excitement might have worn off by now, so I might not have placed a preorder. It's hard to say.

The set list doesn't change what I would have preordered, but definitive clarification on what exactly comes in a superbooster would have made a difference.

No pre-order, and my opinion hasn't changed.
The set has lots of pieces that should be good, but I don't need anything urgently, which is the point. When the price on the CURs drops, I'll start picking. Bonebreaker is the only SR I'm buying for sure. Magneto won't be attainable, so I'm not expecting one.

My normal buy in is 2 cases... I could go 3 if I felt the Super Booster content was worth it.

I didn't pre-order any. I like the X-Men in general, but the really old comics, and the newer movies and cartoons.
90's X-Men (and Marvel in general) did very little to stimulate my imagination.
I absolutely love Heroclix and Marvel/DC in general, but this set list is the absolute worst (FOR ME) in Heroclix history.
I would much rather have a straight up Xplosion remake than this set. And I'm not trying to be negative, just that this is not the set for me at all.
However, I am glad that many people will be very happy for this set.
Maybe the next Marvel set will be Secret Wars or What If?, and then everyone can be happy for me! :)

I never pre-order but I buy at least a brick and usually a case or more of the new sets, with the exception being Brave and the Bold which I consider to be one of the worst sets in the modern format
spoilers never dictate my purchases. the main thing that does affect purchases is the universe (ie:Marvel/DC) i always tend to go 'crazier' for Marvel sets.
the only set I was actually adamant about completing recently, was WOS.
this set will be different as I know jack about NEXTWAVE and if they are in fact the chases, then meh, i don't care.
1 case for me to start, then i'll fill in the blanks later.
My order would have remained the same, but mostly because I wanted a chance at a second super booster (ordered a brick). In a regular set, I might have just gone the singles route.

Sorry didn't know who next wave was till I asked my comic shop owner, after he showed me the PILE of unsold comics I still don't care for them, they will sit in my box....just like the unsold comics around here.....
I would have ordered more, I'm at 1 case plus extra oversized whatever's availible.....Like I posted in a differnt thread we have 30 players at my venue and the store was capped at 15 cases....I have to look elswhere to fill in the set.
this could be my favorite marvel set ever, I've been playing since explosion, loved fantastic forces, MnMutations....was good with HoT and tolirated web.....
This will be there launching point to keep clix going....
X-men comics bring in 40% more sales than the next highest seller (batman titles) and the recent spike of gl brightest day comics....spiderman is way down in comic sales...so if your reading less, or in general seeing less
I can live with the fact it's been 3 years since most of these guy's have been seen or 5 years for the brotherhood....gotta lov the I'm to sexy blob or pyro....even if they haven't been in a x- title in a while.....sitback and enjoy the ride as set demand will rise and more intrest will be generated...
all this from a guy who's 2 favorite titles are Captian America and Superman/Batman....

we really need to sticky threads like this because they ALWAYS show up before a new set.
Tough call.
I pre-ordered two cases on the basis that I'd likely want enough of the SRs to justify it, and with the expectation that I'd be selling most of the likely pulls from the Super Boosters (which at that point we were told would be large figs and "iconic X-Men Duos) to recoup funds. Lrge Sentinels will likely be keepers, I'm on the fence regarding an Apocalypse, but Onslaught is an instant-resell for me and any Duos are nearly certain in the same category.
I was counting on a good mix of generics, and while we've yet to see the dials we know the first five are generics, so that's off to a good start.
While I'm sure this will sell well, I agree with those who say they went far over the line in sticking to the stated theme. There should have been more sub-themes to broaden the appeal. I know a few people who are openly relieved at how easy this set will be for them to pass up. I don't believe they should have gone any farther in terms of theme involvement than was done with Hammer of Thor.
But, it's done. The set is what it is.
I'm awaiting more dial info and the question of the status of the Duos -- are they still in, and if so are they now at chase rarity? Those will be important pieces of information for me.
It's possible that had I known what I know now, I might have decided to cut my order in half. As it stands, though, I'm still reasonably confident I can make this work in my favor.

I always order a case of each set and get additional bricks depending on how much more I need or how good the set is. I still would have ordered a case with GSX, but I probably won't be getting any more. I'm a casual X-men fan, so I'm not all that impressed by the set. I think making it strictly X-men based will hurt the expansion.

I don't pre-order because, you know. I actually want to know what's in a set first, rather than blindly spend my money and regret it later. I wouldn't have anyone to blame except myself if I pre-ordered before knowing what was in a set and then didn't like what was in it.

I understand the approach, but I achieved a state of peace with ordering at the case level months in advance based on nothing more than a set title, one or two sculpts and a couple lines of ad copy well before the end of 2003. It's worked out well enough for me.

Right, and I wasn't really addressing you or those with similar sentiments - you seem to accept the "risks" of pre-orders as they are. I think it's fine to grouch about a set (or grump, even) - whether if it's about the subthemes (or lack thereof), or the generics, super-rares, whatever you. But the thread itself seems to be focusing on pre-orders, when anyone pre-ordering should understand that there are risks involved with pre-ordering and those folk should be prepared for those issues to crop up after a set is revealed. After all, if the set wasn't spoiled today, but instead a month from now, all the same issues with pre-ordering would still be there.
A complaint about subthemes, generic figures, super-rare selection, or even when a set is revealed? I think all of that is valid - only Wizkids has any control over that and Wizkids can't rectify those problems (or know about them) unless people speak up.
But problems that crop up from pre-ordering rest solely on the shoulders of the people who pre-order. Those complaints would be better directed against the preview schedule Wizkids maintains, without once mentioning pre-orders.

My preorder wouldn't have changed for GSX, because it was based entirely on the Madrox brick figure. I want a bunch of them, and would rather buy bricks at $80 than individual figures at $30+. Normally I don't even pre-order Marvel sets.

There may be two teams worth of figures that aren't X-Men themed (that were supposed to be in the superboosters. It would make sense that the 2 team would be sub sets such as X-Force was in WoS or Runaways in HoT). Although I absolutely love X-Men, I wouldn't mind getting other figures as well.
Knowing the figures ahead of time would not change my buying habits. I had already made up my mind/ordered well in advance of seeing the first preview.

I was sold on the set when I saw the title, at which point I decided to order a case instead of the brick I usually do. Seeing the setlist and the pictures make me even happier I did that!
It's time we got some X-characters again! And from now on we should get a decent serving of about 5 X-characters each set.
Also, I think the selection of generics is great, much better than in WoS. My only worry is the super boosters. At first I thought you'd get a decent return on investment, but if it's really just one figure for $25 I'm not too happy I'll be getting two of them with my case, and then 2 additional you were allowed to order with your case.

I love the X-men themed set and would have preferred them to keep it more "X-themed" by excluding the Next Wave Noob's and focusing more on the Astonishing X-men's 1990's Chris Claremont run.
Team-up X-men duo figures would have been a nice replacement for the Next Wave figures i.e. Gambit/Rogue, Magneto/Mystique, Scott/Jean..... Also filling in some mainstays would have been nice and welcomed addition as well. These include figures such as; Toad, Avalanche, Jubilee, Morph (from the cartoon), single based, Cable, Bishop, Bastion, Colossus, and Gambit to name a few.
I see no problem with having a tightly themed set. I've bought cases of sets I didn't particularly care for such as; Hammer of Thor and Web of Spider-man and I think they were pretty tightly themed sets. Regardless of the set it's always nice playing new figures with new power sets and getting caught up in the hype and refreshing newness of a set regardless of what the set is based on. I could give 2 ####es about Thor as a character or any of his counterparts or affiliations, but I embraced the set for what it was. A chance to own new figures with new power sets, be part of the newness and the hype, and possibly learn and introduce myself to new character to both my comic and heroclix repitoure.
To me the only people crying about new sets that come out strictly based on theme content are the ones without a disposable income. They are just going through the cognitive dissonance of not liking the set falsely based on their their lack-of excitement/dislike of character, when in fact it's justly due to their and inability to afford it......

Omega Sentinels, Madrox, Hellfire Guards, and more in the way of generics would have had me sold on the additional blind draws. My pre-order as it stands is perpetually a brick. For every set except B&B, I turned that into a case on or before release day. For the first time since Crisis, I feel justified in going with 3 bricks. There's a good enough crew of SRs that I don't have to worry about pulling junk ones, there's enough generics that the commons won't be largely wastes, we're getting 2 New Mutants which is more than I had allowed myself to build up hope for, and I recognize nearly every member of the setlist (no wikipedia to figure out who I pulled). Oh, and those 3 duos from the Super-Boosters look like they're going to end up the only duos, so there's another huge plus.
I'll definately up my order and hopefully get in before it goes to allotment, but this is a 3 brick set. I've been saying it for a year now. They don't need to show us dials and sculpts and full spoilers, but a setlist needs to be out before the preorders so we know what to order.

If the GSX set list was revealed when the set was announced, how would affect your pre-orders?
My order would have remained the same, what really matters is how good the dials and stats are of the figures overall. That will determine whether I will buy a brick or just buy individual figures.
i look forward to this set greatly. i like that the theme is closed, and will probably buy two bricks. I usually buy 1 and 1/2 then fill out my roster on the secondary market, but I look forward to opening those super-boosters and i look forward to the (seemingly) triumphant return of the brotherhood of evil mutants, sentinels, and juggernaut.

I never pre-order.
I always wait until the full setlist and dials are released, then decide what and how much I want. In this case, very little.
I can't afford to do blind faith.
Spoiled character lists have increased my "pre-orders" (*) approximately 3 out of 4 times, and only 1 out of four times has "spoilers" made me order less than normal.
Example of the 3/4: In the old days or pre-releases, the spoiled Supernova character list got me to place an order for a case within an hour of seeing the complete list.
Example of the 1/4: For BatB, there was practically no information other than that the set was "duo heavy". That was enough of a spoiler for me to avoid anything other than a store brick order to show support.
(*) I consider the following my "pre-order": An order for a brick placed with a local venue, along with a two-booster purchase on release day, with the possibility of an online case order.

I've been a proponent of this forever. I think a set list should be announced with the set. For example, I bought a case and a half of DC 75th. If i would have seen the set list I would've just bought my standard case. Now that I have seen the poster for GSX, I have upped my order from a case and a half to three and a half cases. I think it goes both ways.

If its an amazing set I will buy more. If I don't know if its an amazing set because they diddnt spoil in time I will buy less and fill in on the secondary market.
I'd rather buy up front. It takes less time to get the figures I want, but I wont spend more now if its not a good set, or if I cant tell if its a good set because they havent shown us enough.
