So I just discovered I do not have permission to post polls anymore. Is there a reason for that?
I'm pretty sure the ability to create polls was glitched allowing anyone to post polls.. now it's properly set to platinum (and higher) donors, as that's one of the perks for being platinum.

I doubt having more money to spend equals better polls.

It may not make better polls but it does stop everyone and their brother from posting polls.. There was an instance of lots of polls with no donorship at all which is the reason the polls were re-assessed.
I will look into the issue regarding poll posting for platinum+ donors. There was an error that allowed everyone to post, and that was fixed.

did you try to post in the Polls/Survey forum? That's really the only place that they're allowed.

yes I did. I actually brought it to reddyeddy's attention in another thread just to see if it was an error on my account or global. I will say the poll I wanted to post was not worth anything, and I probably won't post it now since you want to take it in a more serious direction.

To be frank, it's always irked me that every single benefit of being a subscriber is a benefit given by any other website for simply signing up (animated avatars, signatures, posting polls, etc. etc.).

This is not true. I am a member of many forums. Some are a free for all and others are like Realms, Ala Carte.
The fee benifits the site and helps keep it open, I have no trouble with this.

If you're having a problem posting your poll, see a urologist. He can give you blue pills that will help you.
tho you should call a doctor if your poll lasts for more than 4 hours.

Lowered the ability to post polls down to silver level. I think I addressed all the other issues so polls should be working now (In the designated polls section).

How about instead of only giving the privilege to people who throw money at you. It is called DONATE. You either give it to people who have a certain Reputation Points. Or polls are not created immediately, they are sent to staff to take a quick peek and give the thumbs up.

Because people want to post polls and the staff wants money for the site and they don't want to do that much extra work for something that doesn't mean anything.
Keying things off reputation and post count has proven to only make people spam to reach those numbers (or rep trade). So that has never worked out. It all comes down to that we'd love to make the site wide open ... but some people really do just ruin it for everyone else.

First and foremost.. if someone wants to throw money at me.. Please do.. Your option to donate to the site benefits me just as much as it benefits you. Hence why I also am willing to donate to the site (past my own time to moderate it), as if it was paying me it would make little sense to pay back into it.
Second yes it's called a donation.. and with that donation as a way of saying thanks the owners that be have decided to give perks associated with each donation level. So if you want to think of it as pay to use X feature that's your call.. I personally see it as a thanks for giving some money to help out.. Here's a little something that not everyone can do to say thanks.
Typhon Definitely says it best on why tying it to rep doesn't work.
But lastly.. Adding on some kind of poll approval process to keep bad polls out.. Well frankly I could forsee not paying much attention to the thumbs up thumbs down poll forum all that often and polls get left in waiting for moderation status and never posted. which than annoys the posters into feeling they aren't important enough to have their poll posted.
But back to the initial part of the response..
What do I need to do to get people throwing money at me?

I also really appreciate the fact that this site limits posting polls now. For a while it seemed like kids were racing home from middle school to see who could post the silliest poll.
They aren't all winners, but IMHO the polls have been more substantive and less like graffiti taking up front page space.
Kudos to Typhon on this one. I'm sure he took a lot of grief from the kiddies, but it was a good decision.
