ok ive been into books for quite a while and i need help locating an issue

what im looking for is the issues title and number

all i have to go by is this... long ago (best i can determine @10 years ago) there was a dc book that talked about when Abin Sur crashed on earth he told the ring to find a suitable replacement for him... in the story the ring chooses Hal after passing 4-5 other guys (supes, #### grayson, guy gardner) then choosing Hal simply because he's the closest one... granted this only takes place in one or two panels of the book but i still long for the issue

anything that would help would be good

thanks

Hey,
I believe the arc you are referring to is known as Emerald Dawn. It's a good story and it's a nice beginning to Hal Jordan as Green Lantern

Oh, the issues are actually called Emerald Dawn, and they are split into 6 parts. I encountered them today while perusing the local comic shop. Also, they have just been released as a whole trade paperback, it's nice, with the followup, Emerald Dawn 2 being released soon.

dont get me wrong i know what you are talking about it deals alot with hals training as a GL then in 2 it deals with him being arrested and being trained by sinestro who turns bad at the end... im just 95% sure that what im talking about didnt happen in those books

sorry I can't help you, but that's one of those hatchet job ret-con issues done after DC screwed up Hal and replaced him with Vile (I lost my) Lantern. It was done to convince everyone that Hal was the closest human on the planet and was given the ring because of it, and therefore it makes perfect sense that he would go crazy and murder several GL's that he knew personally because some town he used to live in was destroyed while everyone he knew was somewhere else. If it helps, it sounds like a John Byrne kind of thing if it came out before Vile stumbled into an alley and was given a ring of power to lose over and over again.

and if you think I sound a little bitter, just think how you would feel if Kal-el had been the one to go psycho and kill half the JLA after Smallville was destroyed (but not Lana or the Kents houses). Except that's not quite the same, because Kal grew up in Smallville, while Hal was an Air Force brat who grew up on different bases before settling in Coast City as a test pilot.

metzgarob:

You are not nuts. I know what you are talking about.

BUT I cannot remember the issue/series it happened in. It wasn't an Annual because I refused to buy Annuals back in the 1980-90's because they never tied into continuity and most of the time it was always fill-in writers/artists.

I am guessing it was a mini-series.

This has actually been shown, if I remember right, more than once; I think the first time was the late sixties and that's when we saw John Stewart and Guy Gardner for the first time (though I may be scrambling my stories).

Green Lantern...Emerald Dawn...it was a limited series all about Hal Jordan's training as a Green Lantern. This is the series you are talking about. It's in trade paperback and back issues for not too much cashish.

How about perhaps Secret Origins or do You think if was from the Green Lantern Corps series or The begining of the current series because I have almost all of these. Give Me a bigger hint as to where to look and I will. :)

Hi.

Hmm...I not exactly sure here. there's an action comics (don't ask for the number cuz they are all in storage), that has Superman on the cover holding an empty Gl suit. In the book jordan gets shot...(don't ask) and the ring kicks in to find a replacement (Kent, Richard Grayson, a man deadman is occupying, Gardner and some other fellows). Abin Sur is in it so this might be the one you are looking for. It was in the days of Action Comics Weekly so try that era.

It is not Emerald Dawn 1 or 2. Neither one has such a scene in it. If you want the definitive answer, try a guy named lord Malovio (sp?) you can find him on the DC message boards - he is all knowing on things GL. Just don't bring up that pesky Kyle/Hal thing.

Good luck.

Peace,

Jack

The bad thing with DC is in the late 80s and early 90's they were CONSTANTLY telling the origins of their staple heroes. This annual, that series, this APPEARANCE...it's nuts. I know i read that book, but i couldn't tell ya the exact title. I thought it was Emerald Dawn, but it ain't.
