I'm not a big marvel enthusist but I think that it is to symbolis is ability to disapear. (he used that ability in the old x-men show when he fought wolverine) it not as good as nightcrawlers cause he only goes a short distance like a few feet.

IIRC, Silver Samurai has a ring, which if spun around, allows him to teleport. Hence, the phasing as a game mechanic.

Silver Samurai possesses a ring that allows him to teleport in and out of danger. It's one of his long running gimmicks. As a playing piece I expect he'll be quite deadly.

Phasing simulates Teleportation, Astral Projection, Time travel...anything that moves you out of this 'phase of existence'.
