I'm Arsenalroy2k and welcome back to another edition of Comic Accurate! On our road to Giant Size X-Men, we're going cartoon accurate one more time as we visit the classic animated epic "Pryde of the X-Men".

For those of you that weren't aware, back in 1989, the animators of G.I. Joe and Transformers produced a pilot for an X-Men animated series. It never got picked up, but the pilot since then floated around in syndication and on home video. Today you can probably find the video on Youtube and I think at one point, on Marvel's website.

But for those of you that haven't seen it, here's what you missed: The second cartoon to feature a Wolverine with an Australian accent. Oh, and also Kitty Pryde joining the X-Men while Magneto plots to ram a comet into the Earth. Your typical boy-meets-girl story.

Together, this team comes out to 456 points. Now we could easily pump this build up to 600, 700, even 800 or more points if we want to. These characters leave you plenty of options... except Dazzler anyways. The rest of the characters have a lot of figures out there though. But we've built this for a 500 point game for a reason: So we can match this team up a little easier with their opponents from the cartoon: The Brotherhood of Evil Mutants.

That specific lineup comes out to 453 points. Pretty close to what our X-Men team came out to. With that, we can now start throwing on some feats. To make things easy, I'm just throwing most of the same feats on each team: Elite Sniper on Cyclops and Pyro; Mental Shields on Professor X and White Queen; and Unstoppable on Colossus and Juggernaut. We're left with four points for the X-Men and seven for the Brotherhood. Might as well throw Coordination on Magneto and an Alias on Nightcrawler. Because as we all know, Shape Change and Nightcrawler go hand in hand.

So now that we've got both the X-Men and the Brotherhood teams built, it's time to have them go at it. But if we're following the cartoon, you've got to have your teams split up. Send Dazzler after Pyro, Wolverine after Toad, Colossus after Juggernaut, Cyclops after Emma (IRONY!) and then leave Nightcrawler and Kitty to deal with Magneto.

And of course it does warrant mentioning that since Emma, Blob, Pyro and most notably Magneto all are getting remade in Giant Size X-Men, you might want to build the team using them and bump the point totals up a bit. Mainly since we know they're all going to be more expensive than their older pieces.

Well, that's all for this week. Next time, we'll take a look at a certain understated low-key minor character that's described as a "Merc with a Mouth".

Haha, I just played this team (albeit with more powerful examples) of X-Men in a tournament last week. Only went 1-1, though.

Weird. I finally watched the Pryde of the X-Men for the first time yesterday. Australian Wolverine was an odd choice.

I've got a 500 point game coming up this weekend, I think I just might play these teams.

He was Australian all the way back to 82 on Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends, my man. An even odder choice. lol. Actually it might not have been revealed he was Canadian yet. Or they didn't care.

Great article, the only problem is that now i cant get that old song out of my head. I am so glad that you chose the kitty pride with lockheed. I love that piece, I might finally retire them now that lockheed is being made solo. Thanks for the trip down memory lane, keep up the good work :)

... and it'll be closer to 700 points... featuring :d-normal: and :a-fist: values that make it very difficult for old versions of the X-Men to hit them... with Special Powers galore to complicate matters... :cheeky:

Of course, GSX will have updated versions of the X-Men as well. Professor X, Wolverine, Storm and Cyclops along with Dazzler and higher point versions of Colossus, Kitty and Nightcrawler should be able to match that Brotherhood's high point value easily.

It should be fairly easy for the X-Men to fight the Brotherhood in any point value of 500 points or more.

He was Canadian from the outset. In his first appearance in The Incredible Hulk he was the Canadian government's answer to another Hulk intrusion onto Canadian soil.

I remember watching this for the first time with my friends. Finally settled the argument on how to pronounce Magneto. My friend and his brother would say Mag-NET-to, while I always said Mag-NEE-to. Like how it says in the video. Victory for me that day.

Waiting for my video-game-accurate Nightcrawler who gets to leap-kick all the way across the map, then flip out and attack everyone on the map at once. :)

That brings back great memories. When I first saw that in the early 90's I was Nasser that a new x-men cartoon was coming out. Then it didn't. But we got a good Clem cartoon anyway soon after. Though I did like this ones animation better.

Magneto 144

Cyclops 50
Clarice Ferguson 44
Storm 40
Total 499 (trick was, everyone had to have 6+ range, so no nightcrawler, wolverine, jean, beast...)

Anyone else see this and notice that after the battle at the mansion, the X-men were helping Xavier and as he woke up he raised/propped himself up and his leg lifted up as if he could move it? Thought whoever animated that scene really screwed up or it's a Skrull. :D

Curse you Hesster! With one sentence you have brought back all my arcade-rat rage about that game!

Why was Juggernaut using a Bazooka?!
Why did Storm beat people with a stick?!
Why did we have to save Kitty from the cave?! She phases!!!
Why did it slowly kill me to use my mutant powers?! ARGH!!!
'Welcome to die!'...what does it mean?!

That was a fun game. I sank so much money into it, but never made it past the boss review. The two pink(!?) Pyros usually had my number.

Just throwing this out there: any chance for a classic Brotherhood article either before GSX or after all the new guys get released? I only ever read X-Men comics for Sauron, the Savage Land Mutates adn the Brotherhood, so seeing the one group that we can make a team out of would be pretty cool.
