View Full Version : Are you in favor of a new player database?

Since the old Wizkids closed its doors we've lost the loose player database system that was in place. What I propose is a new system to locate and make contact with other local players, find tournaments, host events, and manage game clubs.

I'd gladly make a donation to HCRealms to see a feature like this. What do you guys think?

I like the idea. Its fun to check up on others around the world who play the same game as you. Its good for competition too. Id check on all the local players. After all its a game and games are made for fun and competition. Lets have it!

I also would like to see some type of data base created. I have been working on a listing of venues with a Google Map because I want to see venue to venue tournaments. In other words a form of team play with Clix. The Realms already has the ability to do what you are asking it just needs some to start it. I hope to post my idea for venue to venue tournaments before the month is over.

I would like to see the return of the database. I had used it when travelling and found it very useful to find a Clix store and games. Others had also used it to find the store(s) where I run events. Bring it back, WizKids! :m-dolphin:

I'd like to see HCRealms host it as well, as Wizkids would take about a decade to get around to it.

If the Realms hosted it, I'd gladly donate to the cause as well.

I picked Yes, Wizkids, because I think that they need to take responsibility for it. However, I would not be opposed to having the Realms run it either.

I would love it if their store locator would simply list when tournaments were held. That would be a step in the right direction. I think it would be better for Wizkids to manage something like that.

I would love it if the 'realms had a searchable player database, though. There are a lot more players out there than many people realize. I actually was able to meet a local player here on the 'realms recently and were are starting to hold tournaments. I found him when he posted on the "Where are you from?" thread a few weeks back.

I would like to see the database resurrected. It should be hosted by HCRealms AND by Wizkids. That is why I clicked OTHER.

This is a good idea. So is making dog toothpaste that tastes like chicken.

Curiously, I have access to one, and not the other. . . .

I voted, "No, I'm doing fine without one."

Which is true - we have a local heroclix forum for my area that has any venue/tourney info I may need, plus regular contact with local players for trade purposes, etc.

But that doesn't mean I don't think others should have access to such a thing, either here or on the Wizkids site. It would be a very welcome and useful feature, judging by most of the responses so far.
Personally, no... not anything of any interest. But in general, yes... sounds like it would be a great feature.

It should have some kind of regular update feature. Once a year, email everyone in the database and ask them to confirm that they still want to be on it. An ongoing problem with projects like this is information becomes meaningless after a while and databases become clogged with outdated, inaccurate information.

Other

I want a judge list: Approved judges with locations and play dates and times.
give the curret judges a comprehensive rules book with some of the old 3rd le as payment as well as an occasinal "judges prize" similerly from Avengers....then you can add player name or player number without every nuyjob chasing down players and calling them....work it neca.

I don't want a PLAYER database...

But the LOCATION one is sorely missed. Being able to see what tournament formats were, and where/when they took place was GREAT.

^this. Not only more organized, but easier to maintain since the judges USUALLY keep in contact with the players at the venue.

That's the problem with forums, eventually the information just becomes old and useless.

In my dream database there would be different account types. That way players, judges, venues, etc. would have the features and access they need.

But the LOCATION one is sorely missed. Being able to see what tournament formats were, and where/when they took place was GREAT.Going with what I said above. Venues and game clubs would be able to show when, where and what events would be. A search by location feature is a must.

Again, in my fantasy database you'd be able to find players by location, bio information like age and possibly even a player rating (looking far down the road on that one). How awesome would it be to be able to create events and automaticly notify or invite all players in your area that are registered?

The old WK system should be brought back. It worked well except for WK telling us what events we had to run (which we got tired of and ignored). Reporting events was a bit of a hassle but it gave a searchable list of venues with dates and game info that was insanely convenient for a player looking for a local game.

As always, it depends on the cost.

Switch my Other to Yes, HCRealms. I would definately like to see the return of the player/venue database.

Yes, and WK hopefully will have the capacity to restart and run it.

I would prefer a venue database and I feel it needs to be on here. Wizkids original one was great, but they havent bothered to restart it and they seem not to care. But I think a venue database is the only one we need. Knowing where all the different venues are located is a good idea and list when they normally run their tourneys. Maybe even list the judges name and when he is available for contact at the venue.

Like for our venue I know the judge could be reached at the venue itself on Tuesday, Wenesday, and Friday through Sunday. But this is because our judge also works at the venue. But as far as putting up his own personnel contact information I think that would be up to the individual. If they work elsewhere they could get in trouble answering a cell phone at work.

But even if someone new is coming to play at our venue for the first time and the judge isnt there. The tourney build is listed on the monthly board the anyone can look at and tell someone over the phone.

But as far as a player database, I dont think it would succeed because you'll never get all the players to register. I think at 1/3 to 1/2 of our players at my venue are not registered on here. Granted most of those I'm thinking of are younger players.

I dont even think a couple of the older players come here anymore. I can only think of three other people from my venue besides me that use this site. Poolboy, Sable and our judge.

I said yes and HCRealms should host it. I actually think Wizkids should host it, but there website has been so sketchy I just think it won't be done well. I think it is great for when you are traveling.

Not having been a judge in the old WizKids system I am a bit daunted by the prospect of reporting weekly events to WizKids.

I appreciate the Judge Prize, it is a nice 'payment'. For that 'payment', I organize play and scenarios, liase with the store about special events and arrange extra prize support, maintain the mailing lists, run events, keep current with all the latest rules and rulings, and usually don't get to play the game. Asking me to enter into any weekly tournament tracker the names, WizKids IDs, and W/L records for the 16-18 players that show up at my venue weekly seems a bit much. I am a volunteer not a paid employee.

I'm all in favor of a tournament finder. I post what our tournament scenario is going to be every week in the tournament section here on the Realms. If WizKids wants to have something on their website as well, great. I'm happy to post my stuff there, just don't add a bunch of cumbersome overhead to me doing my volunteer work.

People have mentioned being listing judges vs. players. Well, "judge" is a bit vague at the moment, and pretty much anyone can be a judge if a venue asks them to run a game.

I think it's a great idea, especially in places where there are no venues. I'd rather see the realms manage it as the realmsers & moderators here in my short experience w/ the game have already proven more reliable than WK/NECA.

I think it's a great idea, especially in places where there are no venues.Exactly. I know there are other players in my area, but no stores run events and have little intrest in supporting them either. This would make it so much easier to find groups and get to rolling dice.
