it suprises me that thor won because on wizard's top ten most powerful heros list it goes
1. silver surfer
2. thor
3. superman
and so on

on any given night, on any given day, any fighter can get lucky. Just ask Buster Douglas :D Don't have the book though but me think big blue needs a rematch bad.

Firstly, relative comic "power levels" can be hard to manage. Secondly what did they mean by "most powerful"?

I reckon on his board Surfer is faster.

With the power cosmic he has the ability to heal.

He can menatally control his weapon (board).

Thor has none of these powers, *none*. Now...who is stronger? And are we counting Thor's magical belt? Surfer has energy blasts, Thor has lightning and Mjolnir. Surfer has metallic protective skin. Thor is...tough.

If Thor and SUrfer went at it mano a mano, and Thor went in without any weapons and so did Surfer then I bet Norin Radd would slap Thor silly. He'd just have more abilities as Thor would basically be a glorified strong man who may or may not have other powers.

With weapons in hand Thor becomes far more dangerous and capable.

Also...I know it's a can of worms, but are we counting Thor as the after recieving *all* of Odin's power Thor. (Also known as, 'Geez-louise-I-have-sooo-many-powers-now!' Thor?)

Generally since Thor is the "flagship" of the Marvel uber powered heroes I would tend to say he wins. As far as that Superman/Thor matchup goes, yeesh, I prefer to not step into that can or worms (fanboys). In any case, my Thor fanboy vote is that Thor can beat up SIlver Surfer, so there. Nah-na-na-naaah!

Regards,
Thor.

Going all out (you cant use most comic battles, because a lot of comic heros will never go all out) Silver Surfer cannot be defeated, save by the cellestials and forces of reality (Death, Galactus, Eternity, etc.........)

Norrin Radd rarely goes all out though.

Thor quite often goes all out. Hes a big brawler, always jumping right into battle.

And the first person to mention the brick gets my boot up their ###.

P.S. Silver Surfer, going all out, would HOSE superman, as he could simply create some kryptonite using the power cosmic.

Thor has a very valid chance against Superman. I would say they are very evenly matched. Superman has no defense against Mjolnr above what a normal human would, so if he gets hit with it, he gets hurt. (Mjolnr is a magic hammer...superman has no defense against any magic...thus why Captain Marvel (shazam) can take him)

Along those lines, superman wouldnt be able to hurt Juggernaut easily either, since Cain draws his powers from the Gem of Cyttorak(sp?) and his powers are, therefore, magical.

i've always fancied a gladiator vs superman thing/debate blah blah blah, but im suprised no ones mentioned gladiator when it comes to pitting an equal opponent for superman blah blah blah. i think they have few similarities when it comes to powers, super strength, flight, heat vision, ice breath blah blah blah, ya?

Hm..actually the problem with the matchup is that Marvel never had a Crisis...

Gladiator is based on Superman...even having a name very similar to Clark Kent. But he is based on Pre-Crisis Superman. The one that juggles planets and developed whatever power the plot demanded.

The current Supes has been boosted several times since the Crisis (where he was seriously depowered). But he's still not quite at the level he once was...though with Gladiator's very vulnerable power set..it's possible for Supes to take him if he can just last long enough without showing any blood...once he starts that then Glads will get more confident..like a second wind once you see your opponent going down.

It's close...kinda like a gun and knife...at two feet with the knife at someone's throat...could go either way...depends on if the knife guy can dodge the shot/knock away the gun and stab...or more often than not..get shot in the face...

See, but that matchup was ridiculous....simply because they had Aquaman beat Namor with a whale? A guy that bends steel isn't knocked out...or even surprised by a killer whale falling on him...

Marvel vs DC was insane for many of their fights...even the non vote decided matchups.

surfer is a cosmic being but back in the sixties there was a fantastic four cartoon and the thing knocked surfer unconsiance. so even he can be beat. but thor ... is a freaken god. you can't beat a god. sure you can wind one or stun one. thor also has the encanted uru hammer which i can't spell right but that isn't the point. the point is that thor is the sweetest hero and could take on superman silver surfer hulk gladiator shazam and well everyone. that is why thor is the greatest. :D

Surfer would not need to spend much energy extinguishing Thor.

of course it would be an awesome battle , thor has bested him
3 times allready . maybe after 3 beat downs the surfer could
use his past experience to finally capture a pinfall.

uhmm.. Thor is considered as Cosmic right?!? Many times, it's Beta Ray Bill who joins the Cosmic team... not because Thor isn't Cosmic, but because Marvel wants to keep Thor earthbound.

My heart says Thor wins but in my mind, I see Surfer winning if Surfer goes all out... which he never does. And that's why he loses to Thor in the comics. Thor, on the other hand, does not go all out either but definitely knows how to exert the right amount of force needed to lay down a foe. Thor pulls his punches like Surfer does... but Thor is a fighter.. Surfer's a pacifist. That would explain how much more experienced Thor is in battles.

Now... Thor and Surfer are good allies. Let's not waste time having them fight each other.

(as someone here mentioned in a similar fashion, comics can't really be treated literally all the time. Thor's been taken down by a normal man using a normal sword... but the plot was about faith. Hulk's been choked by a normal snake... yeesh... and now Surfer by a Thug thrown brick?!? Now I've heard it all! And oh yes... Spiderman beat Firelord... hahahaha! He's not called the Amazing Spiderman for nothing.

But if you read Earth X, you learn that all the 'gods' are really just mutants (not like the xmen exactly) that were formed by the beliefs of the people who lived where they landed. The nordic men and woman assumed that the mutants were odin and company, so they BECAME odin and company.....you really have to read it.

but regardless, silver surfer is empowered by Galactus, the most powerful non-celestial, non-cosmic embodiment being. The power cosmic is the power of the entire universe!

thor (besides the odin added power) is the god of thunder. just thunder. yeah he is balls out powerful, but I'd say that in an all out full on win by murder fight, the surfer would beat thor, he just wouldn't want to. like how supes doesn't kill, but he could....he just wouldn't. he holds back, thor does not.

add to that that we have a thor clix, but wizkids won't make the surfer...why? because he's too powerful ;-)

In response to XocgX.

well... earth x is an alternate storyline.... good alternate storyline as you mentioned. :)

But in the same thinking, we can also say that Galactus and Surfer are just a figment of Marvelites' imagination so they really are nothing at all. Thor, on the other hand, can be seen in myths and legends. Makes Thor more real huh? :p

Anyway, I don't have much to argue on your points XocgX, except for the fact that Thor DOES hold back. How can you contend with him fighting the likes of Mangog in one comic then the wrecking crew in the next?

Surfer's powers have been erratic too... sometimes, he's just that unbeatable guy... and sometimes, he's just another fodder. If you've seen blood and thunder in the Thor comics, Surfer wasn't anything impressive.

Anyway, I've put in my thoughts on many posts like this already and am tired to write it again. But all my justifications and analysis are there. If you can find it, check it out. I assure you, it's not some fanboy rant. It's based on pure facts and observation.

I still do believe that Surfer can beat and KILL Thor if he went all out and Thor is too stubborn to take defenses and take on Surfer's powers head on. (which is exactly the case in a What if issue where Galactus was successful in draining the earth... Surfer killed Ironman... then fought with Thor.... killed Thor... but was permanently gravely injured... and died against Doom who he took with him) A great story if you can find it. :D

Cheers! :)

Excellent post!

I wasn't sure how to view Earth X....I sort of saw it as a behind the scenes look at the MArvel Universe...like this is what really happens backstage....but don't let it ruin the show!

I guess Thor DOES hold back, but not the moral and conscious degree of Norrin Radd.

Thor is a warrior born whereas Norrin Radd was practically a peace protester given insane power....big difference.

I like your little thor is real bit.....but I saw this guy once with Silver trunks surfing at the beach....funniest thing I ever saw, I kept laughing and laughing, and then the whole beach just took up in guffaws at this guy's silly shorts!....guess he had......ready?....the Power COMIC!

GROANS!

Time to jump in! Before the Odin-power Thor defeated Silver Surfer, once in the 60's, when he was not written as powerful as he is now, even boosted by Loki. He was not KO'ed, since usually big brawls between good guys rarely end in a KO. In Blood and Thunder, Thor, with the Power Gem stomped Silver Surfer. All that being said, Thor now has the Odinpower, and as powerful as the Surfer is written now, I think Thor would still win, based on no gem, but sheer power.

I'd prefer seeing Surfer win that one.

Current Thor Lord of Asgard is insanely powerful. He has been powered up to how powerful Odin was. Odin still couldn't do things like beat a Celestial or a Fully powered Galactus but could lay some smack down. He fought Thanos to a draw (Thanos just a shprt while before was the one who defeated Thor while he had the power gem) Thor with power gem beat surfer and warlock easily, Thanos beat Thor with power gem easily, Odin tied Thanos, Thors power equals Odins power, therefore Thor fights Surfer and beats him after a good fight (Cosmic fights don't usually end too quickly)
