I live in Toronto. As you know the Shark's traded Owen Nolan to Toronto for Alan McCauley, Brad Boyes (whos in the minors) and a first round pick.

Up here the media and fans are pretty much united in saying the Toronto got the best of that deal and "stole" Nolan from the Sharks. I'm just curious what the fans and media in San Jose are saying about this trade.

I also just want to say that I don't want to start a fight about which team is better or anything like that, I'm just curious about how the other city and fans view the same trade, thats all.

Owen Nolen is one of the most underated hockey players in the NHL. We might have to wait a few years to truly judge who got the best of the trade. I can tell you this though, I'm a Vancouver fan and the games with the maple leafs are always some of the most exciting in the league, and right now, Owen Nolan is causing havok for the Canucks! :p Cheers

The Red Wings won't repeat, we just saw a preview of the finals tonight - Toronto v.s Vancouver.

Sorry but Red Wings are still number #1 in the NHL. It will be interesting to see the ending here. Wings will have at least one shut out in the Finals. ;) :p :D

The Wings aren't #1 in the league. Vancouver and Ottawa have more wins. Dallas, Vancouver, and Ottawa all have more points.

The Wings are too old right now and Cujo isn't playing that well. They won't make it to finals.

Wow your right. Last time I was paying really close attention they were ahead. Oh well still will be some good action. Once the finals get here.

Ah, sweet sweet hockey.

Anybody ever encounter a hockey sim (like Stratomatic) that was decent?

I don't live in San Jose, but my cousin does. The fans are mad. It is just another atempt to down size the payroll. The same way Pittsburgh has. I like Toronto and it will be interesting to see Roberts, Mogilny, and Sundin back together. As for Nolan, he is one class act. He has always been underated. I also must confess that I am a die hard hawks fan. I never liked Eddy but he did almost single handedly win us a cup. I just wish the organization would put together a team that would at least make the playoffs. After letting Eddy, Roenick, and Amonte go there has not been much to cheer for. It is also nice to see fellow clixters who love hockey, I thought I might be the only one. Oh Fluery, I'll take plastic not paper.

we are not happy to see Nolan go. I wish him better luck in TOronto and hope the Leafs win the Cup this year.

Plastic not paper - great line. I too suspected I was the only dual fixated - clix and hockey.

Go Wings!

Since we're comparing psychopathologies - anybody else play fantasy hockey/pool?

While San Jose won't make the play off's this year, they could very well decide the out come of it. They have some of the best vetern talent in the league, and they are going to trade to trade a lot of those talented players before the deadline.

This could also be very, very good for San Jose. First they could end up with with quiet a few if the young "hot shot" stars in the league today (I've heard that the flyers may offer Simon Gagne for Damphousse or Selanne). THis means in 3 or 4 years half of the top stars in the NHL could be in San Jose. Second its widely believed that the league will set up a salary cap next year, since most of the young guys San Jose will PROBABLY be picking up will be cheap, where some teams might have to send some of their top stars to other teams, San Jose should be able to keep most (if not all) of their young guys. OR they could trade a couple of those young, cheap, stars to other teams (like Detroit or the Avs) who needs to dump some salary.

As for Nolan, he'll do very good in Toronto. He scored two goals in this first game (one was kind of a fluke, the other was just a great looking goal). And the fans have really taken to him - they sold a #### load of Nolan jeresy's, and he got 2 or 3 "Nolan" chants. Hes the kind of player we love in Toronto.

I cannot imagine our Sharkies doing any deciding on the outcome of the playoffs. Our team is being gutted, and we seem to be the team that lets all the others break their losing streaks. Trade rumors regarding Selanne, Kipper, Ricci, Damphousse and Thornton with Marchment and Nolan already gone...not to mention the coach..sad days at the tank. :(

benreilly - I meant they could decide who wins the cup by who they trade their players too. Selanne, Kipper, Ricci, Damphousse and Thornton are all very good players who know how to win and could make the difference in the Playoffs. They are kind of like the Jury on Surivior, they can't win, but caqn affect who can.

And as I said before, don't be too down about. The Sharks could very well get a good % of the young talent (still rumors going around about a Gagne/Damphousse or Gagne/Selanne trade). ANd if the league does get a salary cap, the Sharks could be in very, very good shape in 2005.

lol. I somehow managed to come across this thread and just had to revive it because I am the BIGGEST SAN JOSE SHARKS FAN EVER!!!!! Soooooo for anyone that cares Owen Nolan is now on Phoenix and he's gunna get the desert dogs rolling...I hope. But watch out Detroit because this coming year theres going to be a new Western Champ. (The Sharks). And that's the bottom line cause Joe Thornton said so.

P.S. I must be one of the first Canadian whose not a die hard fan of the Leafs or Flames!

:) It's a common mistake, to spell it the english way (Canadians) instead of the french way (Canadiens). And I like bugging people about it. ;)

I generally try to stay away from hockey forums, those people can get really scary. :D Plus, I'm on too many forums as it is. I have to get some work done... at some point... eventually.

What about joining the Canada Clan, though? You up for that?

So whose the biggest hockey fan on the realms?

It's tough to compare over a forum.

For my part, I'll say I've been watching hockey since I was 3 years old and have a good knowledge of players and teams dating to the 50s.

I also recognize almost every player's name in this league as of today and know what type of player they are (superstar, grinder, etc.)

...not to brag or anything. :noid:

Don't worry, not a cheater, else it wouldn't be fun. ;)

Answers:

1. Tony Granato.... American-born power forward who recently coached the Avalanche. (how in-depth do you want?), about 40-45 years old...sister is Cammi Granato, US womens team legend.

2. New head coach= Marc Crawford...he also managed to 'bring with him' Dan Cloutier from Vancouver

3. Thornton had 29 goals and 96 assists for 125 points, I believe.

4. Guerin....hmm..... St. Louis? I'm pretty sure it was that cause I remember reading about it, and I thought of an "American-line" could be formed right away, so ... Weight and Tkachuk came to mind.

I'm just popping in to say hi to my fellow Canadians. Being from Toronto means it's Leafs or nothing for me. Of course I'll cheer for any Canadian team in the playoffs though...except for Montreal of course.

I like how this thread got hijacked by the way, clearly the Leafs got screwed over in that trade deal. I'm looking forward to seeing a team that doesn't have Pat Quinn at the helm, maybe we can actually make the playoffs next season.

I'm looking forward to seeing a team that doesn't have Pat Quinn at the helm, maybe we can actually make the playoffs next season.

I have mixed feelings about Quinn leaving, on the one hand they might actually improve (and that is a bad thing for a Canadiens fan) but on the other hand I won't have to listen to him whine every night. Every night I had to listen to him on TSN saying how the refs have it in for the Leafs and how the NHL was trying to keep them from winning (even when they did win). So then the players started to use it as an excuse. I really think that this made them lose more games, it's easier to keep losing if you can't admit that maybe you're just being outplayed and look to improve.

I still believe the Leafs should give up on the free agent signings and start thinking about building a team. I look at how Montreal suffered through a few losing seasons in order to concentrate on building up a strong young team and now they're looking good and have a bright future. Toronto seems to be content to sell off their future in the hopes that they can just assemble a Stanley Cup winner now and that's not working.
