View Full Version : New Generics, what do you want to see?

I was just thinking about the generics I'd like to see in the enxt DC and Marvel sets, and I got to thinking how it would be a fun poll to create.

So I came up with some options I would like to see and what I think others may like to see also. Try to choose at least 2 from each group if you can, or if you don't like any of the options listed, choose None of the Above or Other (if you have some other ideas share them :)).

I know a few of these would be remakes, but I feel in the modern age format some of these generic figures should get a second chance at being made as I don't feel tha first time around fully captured what a lot of these groups can do!

DC

Green Lantern Generic Alien - a rookie to the corps, we could finally have a cheap 45-75 point filler for Green Lantern related theme teams.

Thanagarian Hawk Soldiers - Obviously the planet Thanagar has some bad@ss soliders and I think they'd be a great addition to the game.

Kryptonians - with the War of the Supermen having just ended, a generic Kryptonian Soldier that could possibly be lead by either General Zod or Superman would be pretty cool to have.

Intergang Agents - These guys can be VERY dangerous if designed correctly, they have tech from Apocalypse and their stats and powers should show it!

Xebel soldiers - Soldiers from the forgotten extradimensional penal colony for an ancient group of separatist Atlanteans (Mera is from here).

Science Police - we are about due for some NEW Legion members, and some science police made to give them a hard time would be a welcome addition to the modern age format!

MARVEL

HYDRA agents - we're getting a NEW Nick Fury and new generic SHIELD agents (they would have been on the list if we weren't) in the small Captain America set. They need someone to fight. Modern age Hydra Agents (and some of the leaders) would make a welcome addition to the new way generics are created. Tournament prize LE Bob, Agent od Hydra!!!!!

A.I.M. agents - These guys meed a remake badly, and should really be something like the Dominators with scifi guns!

Vampires - they are BIG again even in the Marvel Universe. They just fought the X-Men in a crazy turf war and rumors say that they'll be playing a prominent roll in the new Fear Itself storyline. It'd be cool to get some nasty 50-60 point buggers in line with Warlord's stats and a Dracula to control them all!

Generic "Giant Sized" Sentinels - I'd love to have a Sentinel that is about the size of an average giant figure that would be easy to bring an army of to a tournament and also to store! 100 points and a nasty trait on X-Men members ought to do it!!

Kree Warriors - Need more alien races in modern age!

The Brood - with a large chunk of X-Men showing up again and the Giardians of the Galaxy having a pretty decent roster, I think these cosmic alien wannabes should make a come back with a scarier dial and a special power reflecting their ability to lay eggs in you and gain your powers!

One of my votes was for "DC other" and I think getting a generic "Bat Sentry" or "Bat Bot" would be neat. A newer version of them like was in the Batman "Brave and the Bold" cartoon would be super cool.

I didn't even think of that. It is a good call and something that would have been cool to have in BatB!

I don't care wich line provides them, but I'd like generic WWII German soldiers. They don't even have to have swastikas.

Why?
Because my Easy Co. needs something to fight, my Invaders need something more to fight, my JSA also. The Black Hawks too.
And of course we have characters like the Red Skull, Zola, etc who all need thier original flunkies....

You know, I WAS thinking of adding them to the list, but decided against it because I just felt that they wouldn't do it.
I'm with you though, all my golden age comic teams need some Nazi heads to crack!

Great poll, loves me some generics. I'd especially love to see the thanagarians. I'd also love to see some savage land races made into generics. An army of pterons would be alot of fun.

Sinestro Corps Generic Alien (can just be a repaint/redial of the green lantern generic)
LexCorp _________. I don't care if it's bodyguards, security, or his super-powered corporate Infinte Inc, I just want a modern age LexCorp Generic.
"Facist Soldier". I need some Nazi Mastermind fodder for Zemo and Red Skull to use against the Invaders.

I'd like to see some generic citizens. Reporters, cooks, lawyers... okay probably don't need lawyers. We had dozens of them in pogs, I would love to see some dirt cheep mobile terain, they could have any number of themes, Reporter, Politition, Police, Detective, celebrety, or they could have rules that they are on any theme without the keywords, after all almost every comic has countless millions of innocent victims and people witnessing the heroes work. I just think that it would add so much to the game to have true generics. More atmosphere is a good thing.

A major faction you forgot - SHIELD!

We need some generic SHIELD soldiers, and following the current trend, you can have a Rookie SHIELD Soldier, an Experienced SHIELD Officer, and make the Veteran Baroness Contessa or Gabriel Jones or something of the like.

Nope, I did not forget them.
I mentioned in my Hydra summary that I was going to include them until it was revealed TODAY that the Captain America mini set is going to have 2 Generic SHIELD agents as well as a new Nick Fury!!!
I would like the Baroness to fill my SHIELD team though!

I picked Kree, AIM and Sentinels. Some Annihilation bugs would be awesome, now that I consider it, but we need a badass Nova to go with them. I still don't get how Annihilus got made and not him in SI.

As I have suggested some months ago in another thread, nazi generics can simply be called 'axis soldier' and have swastika or any nazi related symbol NOT made on the fig.

My choices : Thanagarian Hawk Soldiers (with Cosmic keyword to put them with the Dominators), Intergang (waiting for some new ones since Hypertime, dammit!!) and Xebel (to have non blue-skinned atlantean).

Haven't voted Others, but could go on with some Khunds to fight the Legionnaires.

Kryptonians would obviously be either too overpowered or underpowered : even just making them in the range of the White Martians couldn't assure they would be playable (and I'm palying the White Martians in every 800 points game we do : Hyperclan, yay!!)

I would love to have gaint-size generic sentinels (instead of colossal-size) for 100 pts. each. It would be great for themes like Ahab ,Hound ,Nimrod ,Bastion ,Sabastian Shaw ,and Trevor Fistzroy who all built or hunted with sentinels. I would rather have Master Mold as a coloassl fig and you can roll a D6 to spawn generic sentinels lol.

They haven't made the Brood in a while and with "special powers" it would be able to represent their ability to spawn additional broods after laying an egg in its host. Maybe something like "Give Brood a power action. Roll a D6 and on a 5-6 incap the target and spawn a brood in any adjacent square to the target." Kind of a reverse version of Madrox's power; as an attack instead of a defense or something simular to this. It can't be 100% accurate because the intial target would die and become a Brood ,but this was the only thing I could think of that would be ballanced.

The last thing I voted for was other. It would be great to have Friends of Humanity that would work well with Bastion and the Purifiers since they sort of joined forces recently in the Second Coming cross-over. Hope some of you like my ideas :classic:.

Would be more comic accurate if it was worded like 'when any friendly Brood KO an opponent's figure, roll a D6...' : it'll go with the 'baby brood kills host' thingy:)

I like the Anihilation Wave Bugs too. I'm dubious about the Lantern generics idea because each Lantern seems to look so different from the next. I suppose if they just hand each of the painters a different colour pot of paint for the skin and hair that could make them all look a bit different.

But there'd still be threads here saying "I only seem to pull blue-skinned GL generics! Where are all the yellow-skinned Lanterns!"

How about a new Queen Bee with her Bee-Troopers as the Generic, and the 8 Appelaxians that came to Earth to battle Earth's heroes to see who would be ft to rule the Appelaxian Empire, with the 8th going unnoticed who called 7,000 of his planets top Shock Troops for a full-scale alien invasian of earth, with the Shock Troops being the Generic. I also like the Sentinel idea.

I'd kind of like to see some Annihilation Wave Bugs for Annihilus to boss around.
This. "Annihilation" and "Annihilation: Conquest" fell right into that awkward space where Wizkids was dead, so we got a lot of slight references to unfinished stories (Annihilus without any minions, Infinity Watch characters with no GotG keywords, etc), and I'd love to see them backtrack a little and give us space-bugs.

"Facist Soldier". I need some Nazi Mastermind fodder for Zemo and Red Skull to use against the Invaders.
THIS. I don't understand the fear of putting Nazis in things. I still believe it's an urban legend that Germany won't sell things with depictions of Nazis but I could be wrong? But at any rate there are definitely ways around it. The entire Golden Age of Comics was basically built on a solid foundation of Nazi-punching; if Heroclix is going to constantly reference Golden Age characters then they need someone to fight!

No offense, but how did you guys miss the bright green HYDRA AGENT on the Captain America box? He's right next to the SHIELD SPECIALIST...
Thank you for pointing that out, I didn't want to be "That Guy" this time around, lol.

I would love to see generic Thanagarians, some new Intergang Agents, AIM troops (and a new MODOK!), and some new vampires (WITH DRACULA, SERIOUSLY GUYS OH MY GOD IT'S BEEN YEARS AND HE'S PUBLIC DOMAIN!!!).

Thanagarian Wingmen are very much my top want.
I'd also like generic:
Thanagarian Shadow War soldiers*
Green Lanterns
Kunds
Rannians
Atlantians (DC)
Manhawks (Mostly the Silver Age versions, but modern versions would be cool too.)
Agents of C.L.A.W.
Perhaps some specialized Gotham thugs (one in clown make up, one in a parka, etc)
Red Morgue (Time-Traveling assassins employed by Per Degaton)
Some sort of WWII era Nazi/Hydra- Stormtrooper types for Captain America, The JSA, Sgt Rock, etc to fight
I also wouldn't mind some generic monster types:
Vampires
Zombies
Werewolves
etc
I know that was mostly Horrorclix's shtick, but it's not like those things don't show up all the time in super hero comics. (We've already had Vampire lackeys even, so there is precedent.)

*That story is from 25 some years ago and not even in canon anymore, but they'd make for really cool generics. They had distortion fields (Stealthed when next to Blocking perhaps) and powerful palm blasters (RCE and Sharpshooter, but with a very short range) and were working with knowledge from the Absorbascon (Can use use Outwit when doesn't have an Action token).

Voted for GLC and Other DC:

Definately in need of a low cost Green Lantern Corps figure to fill in teams. With that in mind, for other, I would also like a generic Sinestro Corps figure. Also need a generic Orange Lantern Corps figure, though some specific Orange constructs would be appreciated first. Lastly, the zombie horde of the Black Lantern Corps needs more horde element. I would also include Violet Lantern Corps, to have a generic humanoid wearing the VLC outfit, but the Zamaron is already filling that game need, if not the visual need. Lastly, unaware of the size for the Red, Blue, and Indigo Lantern Corps, so they are currently ommitted...but having them would be great too.

How about some Reavers? Where is the cyborg love?

Gone with all of those we are getting in GSX. I'd sincerely love if they made a Reaver generic... and didn't waste 3 slots of the set with named versions of them.

Hydra Agent is in Caps' set, but I wouldn't mind to have some more. They have their own TA, are from an important/iconic organization, and fight in huge numbers... perfect for generics.
We really need some Brood. The last one we got was a specific specimen on M&M, and one far to weak to be played well...
I voted for Kree, Thanagar and Green Lantern as well just because having some more generic aliens would be nice. Anihilation bugs would be even nicer, though, and Nova Corps would be great.

However, it seems to be missing the generics I think we need the most: Shi'ar! We have Vulcan, but no Shi'ar, and that makes no sense at all.

I agree we need some generic soldiers, wheter they are implied Nazis or not. Make them "blue soldiers" and "white soldiers" if you wish, just so we can put heroes fighting on one side against villains in the other...

I would like to see British and German WWII soldiers in a set. There are many characters about that were in WWII, both in the Marvel and DC sets. Cap, Bucky, Red Skull, Baron Blood, Union Jack and Spitfire to name but a few.

We already have American soldiers in the Easy Company figs and are getting the Howling Commando figs in the small Captain America. We need the British and Germans so we can play themed WWII games.

I'm glad this poll was able to spur some discussions and ideas about what we as players want to see in the future!

I won't lie, I am very pleased to see others want low point generic Green Lanterns to be made as well. It has been something that has driven me crazy in this game since forever in terms of team building with the GLC! :)

I wanted to put H.I.V.E. and Daxamites into the list as well but I wanted to keep the list equal with Marvel and DC wants, I also did not want it to grow any larger than it already had grown. I also thought that Daxamites and Kryptonians were close enough characteristically and genetically that it wouldn't be a big deal if Daxam was left off the list.

If we do have GL Rookies as generics can we give them this trait?

:star: (non-optional) Rookie Weakness. If the target of a ranged attack made by the GL Rookie has any yellow on the model then the target may use Invulnerability. If the GL Rookie is within 4 squares of a model with the Green Lantern Corps keyword and a points value of 100 points or more (or within 8 squares of a model called Kilowog) then they may ignore this trait.

I'd be ok with toughness, but I think Invulnerability is pushing it. I also think it should not be the model itself, but the power colors in the dial. If the dial is showing a yellow power, then that character has toughness.
Nice idea to get the brain thinking though.

I was thinking about a trait that the rookie GLs would have if Kilowog was nearbye.
Like if Kilowog is within 6 squares, modify their defense by +1 or something like that.

So then every member of the x-men wearing the cheesy blue and yellow uniforms would get invuln against them? Thats really way to broad of a spectrum. How do you really define 'yellow' on a sculpture, there are way to many shades. If a sculpture has yellow eyes, would it be comic accurate for that person to be immune to GL energy? Not in the slightest. Without something to define which characters are considered 'yellow' there will be hundreds of arguments and big headaches for judges.

a quick look at the wiki page on the various shades of yellow (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template_talk:Shades_of_yellow) shows us just a hint of exactly how broad that spectrum really is. I'm sure if you try hard enough, you can find some form of yellow in about half the clix in existence. Good idea, just impossible to implement without some sort of definitive 'what is yellow on a figure' (like a 'yellow' keyword for instance)

Oh, I knew it was an unworkable idea when I put it up there. I do like MattPetersen's idea about yellow powers on the dial though, as a nod towards the rookie weakness. And most Sinestro Corps models do have P/T at some point on the dial though and so would have an advantage over the GL Rookies.

As for a Kilowog/minion power, well since in those training montages he always seems to be emphasising making their structures more solid then maybe any model with the GL keyword and ES/D gets toughness as well when within 6 squares of Kilowog? Makes some of those older GL models more useful when played alongside him too.
