View Full Version : Stand-up Comedy mafia: Last Comic(s) Standing

Rules... stolen from JOH, and Darqfeonix's Joss Whedon thread, and modified just a bit...
1) There is a Town. They win by getting rid of the mafia/non-friendly neutrals. Each night, many of them do something (investigate or protect for instance) to try to find the mafia. During the day, they try to vote off the mafia.
2) There is a Mafia, maybe even more than one. They win by getting rid of everybody that isn't in their mafia. Each night, they will remove townies from the game. Each day, they will try to prevent the townies from voting them off.
3) If more than half the players vote for the same player during the day (i.e. Majority), that player is lynched and is removed from the game. You should bold your lynch votes so that I don't miss them or think you are kidding. You can vote for anyone but chances are nothing will happen if you try to lynch someone who isn't playing. You can also vote for a No Lynch, but some mods will remove a random player from the game to ensure that the game doesn't stagnate if no player is voted off. If you feel like leaving a vote with someone, you can say Leave Vote with: Player X. You cannot "leave with majority".
4) There are unfriendly neutrals that could be trying to kill everybody or recruit their own mafia or maybe something else entirely. They win in odd ways but they hurt the town so the town must eliminate them to win.
5) There are friendly neutrals. They also have strange win conditions but they don't really hurt the town. Sometimes they can win with either the town or the mafia but in general the town doesn't need to get rid of them. Friendly and unfriendly neutrals are hard to tell apart and you'll just have to use your best judgment on whether you want to vote for them or leave them be.
6) Don't do these 3 things: Quote your role pm or the role pm of anybody else, talk about this game outside of this thread even via pm unless you are pming a mason teammate or a mafia teammate, and don't edit your posts. If you do one of these 3 things, you may be modkilled to ensure the game's fairness. I'm a stickler for these. You see how it says 'may'? Assume may = will.
Raven's personal notes:
-Phases during the week will last 24 hours. I will post the deadline for votes to be accepted. The thread may not close exactly at that time, but no votes will be counted after the deadline.
-weekend phases will be approximately 36 hours with some variation depending on my schedule. Again, there will be a posted deadline.
All deadlines posted will be Mountain Standard Time, or MST.
-This is my first time out of the gate, so forgive me if I screw up. If you don't get your action in during the night phase, tough. I will try to pm people who haven't sent in with about 2 hours remaining in the night phase, but that's all I'll do. If you still don't get it in, you took no action.

Night 0:
The best thing about being a comedian, they don’t ask for a urine sample. If they do, it’s to make sure you’re on something. No one right in the head can actually think this stuff up. In fact, a raging drug problem or criminal record is a badge of honor in the business. It shows true dedication. Nevertheless, sometimes it gets the better of us, sometimes in a fatal way.
Another thing you need, balls of solid rock and a thick skin. Yeah, you’re going up there and it’s just you, and a Mike. No props unless your a chump like Carrottop and Gallagher. No back-up singers. Just you, your brain, your voice, your body, and a mike. And if you suck, they’ll let you know it. Sometimes with words and boos, sometimes with beer bottles and congealed left over food. Utter crap if you ask me. You don’t see a secretary getting pelted with food because she didn’t answer the phone on time. I would pay to see that though, but I’m a twisted, sentimental fool like that.
Anyhow, life on the road is rough. You think it’s all glamour and applause, it’s not. It’s cutting your teeth in a dingy, dive bar as a second job while you’re a janitor for a crappy public school during the day. It’s driving all night to play a 30 minute set in the hopes that your cut of that night’s take will pay for the gas to return to your home. Home, a crummy one-bedroom apartment with a nagging wife and a screaming child. And people wonder why I drink.
Eventually, it pays off though. Soon, you’re playing in larger places, places without permanent urine stains in the bathrooms, places that actually pay you a fee in addition to your cut of the night’s take. Then the unthinkable happens, you get a call from Comedy Central or HBO asking to put you on television. Television, true recognition. Naturally you do it, and hope it will land you a permanent gig somewhere. More often than not, you get your special, then fade into obscurity. But a select few have bigger success, even making a living at this. I presume that’s why you’re all here.
As much as I complain, it’s better than the alternative. I mean, I have a law degree from Harvard, from freaking Harvard. Have you guessed who I am yet? Don’t worry, I’ll tell you soon. I died last year, but it wasn’t from a drug overdose, though that did contribute. I was a laywer making tons of cash as most of them do, but I was miserable. A tool of the system. Ask around, conformity and serving the system are considered uncool in my line of work. Almost making you a social pariah.
I drank for many years, and I was darn good at it. In fact, it caused my divorce and a bunch of other crap to happen. I was trying to make amends, I figured I had to walk the walk if I was to be taken seriously as a father. But I got careless. I had to take some prescription medication for something, I don’t even remember what, and I overdosed. While I was in the hospital....
The mob approached.
“He’s here” said one.
“Yes, this will be awesome”
“We’ll teach him to mock us even when it’s not our Roast.”
“Yeah, permanently.”
Moving inside the hospital, the mob proceeded straight toward my room. When they entered, I looked up feebly. Never did I think all these people would get along and find some common ground, but apparently I had caused it. Kind of gratifying, I did what I didn’t think was possible. As they started pummeling me in rage and in jubilation, I closed my eyes and let go. This wasn’t a terribly awesome way to go, but I wasn’t going to give them the satisfaction. They all took their shots, and in the end, I was dead, never to perform again.
Immortal_Raven is dead. He was Greg Giraldo(Neutral). Roaster, skeezebag, and comedian extraordinaire.

Day 1: Bruised Egos, Limbs intact
The comics circled one another, roaming the room like socialites at a high-society ball. Each one was under the perception that they, and they alone were the star, the reason that everyone was here. Alas, some dreams came to a halt rather suddenly, and others never really materialized. Some punches were thrown, metaphorically speaking. Verbal jabs and insults were heaped upon several people, but in the end, everyone was a little leary of doing anything. Can’t make the first move, lest it be a wrong one. And so, instead of a lynch, you get to hear more of my drivel. Or better yet, how about one of the best comedians who is not in this game since he’s not really a stand-up, Stephen Colbert.

Night 1: Things that go bump in the Night.
“Someone always has to do the dirty work, but it seems like it’s always me.”
The man went about his task dutifully, if grudgingly. Stuff needed to be done and that was that. Searching this way and that, he thought he saw his quarry disappear down an alley. Hastening his step, he quickly caught up to the figure and aimed his gun. Shining a flashlight at his prey, he discovered that it was not his intended prey.
“Put that light down, and the gun too for that matter.”
“I ain’t supposed to kill you, but I think I can make an exception.”
Raising the gun, he squeezed the trigger. The bullet struck his prey in the arm.
“You’ll have to do better than that.” said the man as he dashed down the alley and disappeared.
“Well, that’s a new one.”
---------------------------------------------------------------
The awkward man was stumbling home through the dark. He’d been out performing until 2:00 AM. He was tired, slightly drunk, and desperately needed a shower.
“Stupid barkeep took my keys. I can drive 13 blocks. I’m upright for Pete’s Sake and I’m six foot six.”
On he ranted and rambled through the darkened streets. He was so preoccupied with his misery that he did not see or hear the car coming as he started crossing the street. By the time he saw it, nothing could be done. His legs flew out from under him in a snapping blur, catapulting him over the roof of the car and crashing to the street below.
The car stopped immediately after impact. A shadowy figure emerged from the driver’s side and strode over to the body. Glancing down:
“Good, that dork had it coming.”
Then the figure went back to the car, got in, and drove off.

Sure, he's (at best) neutral, so no great loss to the town if he's lynched... but if we rush this, we lose any oppotunity for other information to come out.

No need to rush but there is a higher chance he is the SK. I think I would have believed it better if Quebbs didn't say he was roleblocked before the claim honestly, and with one kill last night...one must have been blocked. Food for thought.

I believe the claim and power and he isn't a direct threat to the town.
Well, he could be a direct threat. If he steals a NK and starts killing townies. Or if he starts stealing the cop's or doctor's powers. Not sure he's safe enough to keep around. In fact, the more I think about it, the more I think his claim is a safe claim for the mafia Control Misdirector. As there wouldn't be much of a way for us to distinguish the power & effect that Corn is claiming and that of a CMDer.
No need to rush but there is a higher chance he is the SK. I think I would have believed it better if Quebbs didn't say he was roleblocked before the claim honestly, and with one kill last night...one must have been blocked. Food for thought.

I don't think Corn ever implied I was a silencer. He just said my power was used on Darq. Darq ended up silenced, but that does not necessarily mean that my power was the one that silenced him.
That's sort of the reason I think Corn is a good lynch at this point though, to test the validity of Rokk's statement. If Corn is indeed Neutral Carlos Mencia, we know he told the truth as far as he knew it and that Rokk's info is not accurate. That's good info to get from the lynching of a Neutral.

remove vote - though I may still put it back if we don't get close to a lynch.
Main problem here is that Neutrals generally cannot be trusted. On the other hand, a Neutral outed on an early stage better do his best to at least appear to be acting in the Town's best interests.
But hey, if Corn wants to try to use Wade's power tonight and see if his target gets silenced I'm willing to give him a chance - I don't like the "Neutrals = scum" train of thought that some have, although it is dangerous to let Neutrals run around unchecked.

The way I think of Neutrals is that they are on the side that is currently stronger. Early in the game, they are mostly Town oriented as the Town outnumbers the Mafia. The longer the game goes on the more they shift towards supporting the Mafia though.

Not getting information from my night actions also makes it difficult to take sides. I truly am a neutral survivor in the sense that I can't really help out either side. I can disrupt the night actions. My only real contribution would be a vote during the day phase.
My night action kind of limits how I can play the game. I was hoping to be left alone for a little bit so that I could collect some of the required powers and be seen as less of a threat and soon to leave the game. But this early makes it unlikely that I will not hang today.

I think Corn is a good lynch. He's saying that his claim is what IR had in BoE and IR had an alternate win condition as an SK in that game. IR also knew what the powers he needed to steal were in that game. I would think that if anything, after a long game he would have made the role easier, not harder. Also the 5 powers that IR needed to steal were pretty broad IIRC, things like "an info gathering power, a kill, etc."

I haven't invested that much time into this game. Wade is definitely worth looking into. However, my death should reveal that Rokk's info. may not be on the up and up. Day 2: Copyright Infringement
The crowd moved decisively. If there’s one thing a comedian can’t stand, it’s other comedians taking their jokes. You wrote that, not them. That’s your intellectual property, that’s your livelyhood. Sadly, the Mexican did not understand that. He tried to explain that he wasn’t hurting anyone, but there is no sympathy from your peers when you broke rule number one. They grabbed him, stuffed him in the car, and drove him to the border. He was ticked, but the border patrol threw him in with the next group to be sent back, despite his insistance that he was a US citizen. The mob had conveniently left all evidence back at the comedy club in downtown Los Angeles.
Cornucopia has been deported. He was Carlos Mencia, alleged joke thief, Mexican, and smart-mouth extraordinaire.(neutral)

Night 2: A whole lot of getting nothing done
“Dang it, why am I always the one doing the dirty work?! Really starting to piss me off. Ah well, best to be about it quickly. Now if only that idiot would come out of the laundromat.”
Our “hero” waited patiently in a dark alley behind the laudromat in East LA. All he wanted to do was conk his target over the head, and be done. Unfortunately, clothes are never finished after only one rinse cycle. Nevertheless, like a dutiful assassin, he waited. After a long wait, his target emerged. Jumping silently, he hit the person over the head with the crow bar. Not pausing to check his work, he ran off down the alley, leaving his victim to bleed to death. Or so he thought....
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Some time later.
The groggy man slowly got up.
“What the hell was that all about? He didn’t even take my wallet. Not like there’s much in there, but still. It’s the principle. You don’t go around clubbing people over the head for no reason.”
Well, almost no reason. And with that, the more lucid man was off about his business. Driving through LA, he came to a secluded house in a moderate neighborhood. He knew his target lived here. All he had to do was go inside, wait if necessary, and do the deed. Strange how he had initially done this for fun, and now does it for a career.
He gently picked the lock and stepped inside.
“I’ve been waiting for you” a shrill voice called from the living room.
“What? How did you know I’d come here?” the fully lucid man replied.
“One develops a sixth sense about such things. However, I do not want to kill you, and you should not want to kill me. We are kindred spirits in a way.”
“And what way is that?”
“We respect death, population control, and the pure pleasure of killing. We just go about it in different ways.”
“Uh huh.” said the lucid, yet unnerved man.
“I’ll make you a deal the first one continued. You leave my home in peace, or you leave my home in pieces.”
With that the lucid man left.
No one has died. With 16 players, 9 is majority.

Looks like one mafia member tried to kill another killer (serial killer with bullerproofness?) and failed and then the 2nd killer tried to kill...another scummer? How odd.
hmmmm...my power failed last night. I don't know how that would have happened outside of a role block.

I have claimed in full, and all normalview has said is "that's not right". Magnito hasn't said why he started the train. At this point in the game and in the phase, I don't think that is enough to convict. But then it's not really up to me to decide...
Unless someone RTed Mags there is no way to know if he was misdirected for sure. Common wisdom is to believe the Cop, its how we won BOE so quickly. However, thsi is a fast moving train, and the day is young. I'll wait to vote.

I don't think Mags is the cop, given what has been said in the thread so far.
I'm getting a big scum feeling from deadshot though - I tried to MD him on night 1 because I had a feeling he was trying to steer pressure away from Wade, and now it seems like he is trying to implicate me without actually voting. Could just be paranoia though.

So...do we pressure deadshot now then if you guys are ok with this information? (sorry Mr Stranger, just from your posts I am getting a "I want to believe my information is correct but I am not sure" feeling from them.)

If anyone targeted Quebbs, what night did you do it? Night 1 or last night?

That seems to be what he's hinting at, but he's never come out and said it. Also, it seems a little off to out yourself like that without being able to offer an alternative (scummy) target.
Yeah, you might save an townie that is being wrongfully accused, but now everyone knows who you are and there is really not a whole lot to show for it. Seems a big risk to take... which is why I am not really buying that Stranger is the cop.
The way he was posting was making him seem like he wasn't too sure on his results. He could be masoned with the cop but he isn't sure if they are the cop or not :-/

See, the way I see things, Townie lynches is a bad thing.
Also, if you let a townie be lynched, it might look bad later when you claim.
In theory, at least. :)

Not really, got to lynch Townies from time to time to weed out the mafia. Sometimes information is bad as there are a lot of things that can happen. Framing, misdirection, cloaks, millers, insane cops, etc...

Yeah, but the more information is on the table, the better the lynches tend to be. If you lynch me and I turn up Town (which I will), then you'll know to trust Stranger more than Magnito or normalview.

Jerry's question was mainly towards Stramger, I think. Witchweed was likely JK last night, so tree should be no info on him

So you are saying that lynching you would give the town information.

AHA! So Quebbster is NOT Eddie Izzard and is instead the dread comic Witchweed!

Of course it would. The real question is if it is worth following the lead of two people who won't share their info, against the advice of someone who actually shares their info.

If by "bad" you mean "hilarious" then I agree.
