View Full Version : Thanos' Stats? Overpriced?

I just got Thanos today, and was surprised to see he doesn't have Battle Fury since the Warrior section here at HCRealms has it listed for him (on his second and third clix) -- so does he have Battle Fury or is that a typo?

Secondly, I realize with a taxi and maybe some shield agents or perplexers his high attack value could/would be killer, but am I the only person who wonders at his basic damage? -- he doesn't have Super-strength (shouldn't he? he's got to be stronger than some of the figs with SS) and after his great first five clicks his damage becomes 2, with no way of enhancing it without outside help -- the point being that in a very casual game I played tonight he ended up being unable to hurt V She-hulk -- who at 120 points has tons of useful powers to go along with decent stats -- I guess what I'm asking is this: Without specific support pieces is Thanos really worth his 185 points, especially considering all the characters with B/C/F or SS and 4 damage or SS and Charge or RCE with 10 range, etc. ?

I think he is overcosted and underpowerd.

Thanos isnt called the Mad God for nothing.

In IC he was a bit overcosted/underpowered.
But now with HT and CT and XP he's seriosly outdated and not likely to see much play unless your trying to intimidate a newbie.

doesn't have Battle fury and that's a good thing (otherwise he wouldn't be able to shoot !).

Yep he's definately missing some powers: Super Strenght,Outwit (the great strategist), EE,etc.

he's (just like Magneto) in for a redo by JonL ! I hope.;)

I think that pretty much sums up Thanos right there. After 5 (count 'em, 5) clicks of damage he does two damage. How many other figs can take the beating Thanos can, and still have two damage, not to mention his stats. I know there are a few, but what I'm trying to sayis that Thanos is a work horse, and if he can't damage a person with INV or toughness because of his 2 damage, move him on to weaker opponents, support pieces, etc, and have HIM be invulnerable to their 1-2 damage.

Thanos dropping off fast isn't due to his figure being all that bad, it is more likely due to him being played badly (he has a range of 10, let somebody else kill the outwitter if you dont want him losing INV), or being a huge fire-target. Either way, his downfalls stem from him being misplayed, and mis-constructed.

In IC he was pretty powerful, but when CT came out, he wasn't worth the money. I'd rather take Veteran Thor, or Dr. Doom...

No offense, but there isn't a single character in the game (including the truly awful ones) that can't be useful if played properly (depending on the context of a battle, or team-mates or tactics or what have you -- which I admitted from the beginning) which makes your statement true and yet vaguely meaningless.

The question is Thanos' points cost (for what he has -- which is great numerical stats and staying power and little else -- seeing that he has no powers at all outside of his defense) compared to similar characters in the objective sense (to a certain extent it doesn't even matter what Thanos can or can't do in the comics when looking at points costs and the metagame of Heroclix is deceptive considering there are a restrictive number of figures actually being played competetively).

I guess what I'm getting at is the idea that there will continue to be a trend of diminishing returns to all but a few characters from each set -- if Thanos is already but a pale shadow of Veteran Thor, what do we have to look forward to 2 or 3 sets down the road?

I'm not excited by the prospect on endless remakes of characters who were badly designed the first time (at least in terms of the eventual development of the metagame) with the absence of so many notable characters, and yet I would still like to field Kang and Thanos and even Hobgoblin without putting myself at a serious natural disadvantadge (which even in casual play can be problematic).

They simply put need to remake him. Outwit for a long time with some perplex and EE at the beginning moving to SS after 2 or 3 clicks. He should have Invulnerability and toughness but somewhere in there he should maybe get a click or 2 of energy shield to represent the many force fields he uses. He takes shots from Silver Surfer, Thor, Odin and even at times Galactus.

Also Phasing for sure he teleports everywhere but if they don't want to give him flying because he only has anti-grvity devices he should get his Phasing upgraded to Hypersonic speed. He is the Mad Titan and is a Cosmic Being or as close as you can get to one.

I haven't played a lot of Clix, but to me a character that basicaly doesn't miss and really can't be outwitted is a pretty powerfull figure in itself.

I think is big thing is his high AV and range. He is not a brawler and beware stealthed BCF.

You can have the greatest damage powers in the game, but if you can't hit anybody what good is it.

Target selection is extremely important with the Big guy, cause you really need to make sure the basicaly automatic hits are on the targets that need to be hit.

I also think with the shield team ability or perhaps an enhancer/perplexer he can in combo do some serious damage.

In combo with an outwitter, toughness and inv don't matter as much.

I would not underestimate the value of a pretty much guarnteed hit, even against someone like a unique Wasp or invisible girl..think about that he only needs to role a 4 or better to hit an invisible girl....

He's really not that bad of a fig. He does 3 damage for a long time, and even 4 points for 1 click. You have to keep in mind that he has a really high movement, and a ridiculously high AV. Most people are not gonna hit him either (Put him in some terrain for a 19 DV). His 10 range gives him an advantage, and his regeration helps him to stay in the game longer. They could have given him superstrength in my mind as well. The guy can lift 90 tons (In short he could rip off Mr. Hyde's arms, and beat him with it). He should probably have another click of 4 damage as well. I would trade all that for a lower attack value. All around though, he is awesome. I mean how can you miss. The dude's attack value is better then Ultrons. Use a character with ranged combat enhancement by him. Watch She Hulk die then.
