View Full Version : Only novices use support figures! Which of these 208pt. teams is best?
I usually play 300pt. games but I feel using anything more then 208pt. in a 300pt. is cheesey. Sure it's easy to be a stupid newby and have to use 92pt. of supports figures like the following in order to win.
V Doombot 38pt.
R Destiny 20pt.
R Vulture 15pt.
R Con Artist 11pt.
R Paramedic 8pt.
Total: 92pt.
But if you don't want to mindlessly roll dice, but actually want to exercise some strategy, then 208pt. with of brawlers is the way to go. So my question, which one of these 300pt. teams do you think is better?
E Firelord 81pt.
U Moon Dragon 71pt.
U Spiral 56pt.
Total: 208pt.
Or
E Crimson Dynamo 108pt.
V Abomination 100pt.
Total: 208pt.

Personally, I'd prefer something like:
LE Adrian Toomes (30)
LE Carter Hall (54)
E Beast (59) (since XPlosion seems fair game)
R Bane (61)
Total: 205
Wow, that was pretty bazaar. When asking what 208pt. worth of marvel only figures were best, someone posted 205 points worth of mixed figures. Thanks any way.

Maybe you are right Phil, I should have used more then a winking smilely face to specified that this thread was just a silly way of asking opinion on what would be the best 208pt. figures to use on my team, not seriously asking for the best 208pt. team. My apologies to all who were confused.
However bjmc, I still find your team very strange, will you please explain the strategy?
hey jay,
sometimes support figs are inevitable. how many times have opponents lose in tourneys due to lousy dice rolls and able to PC it without blackcat or scarlet witch??

I don't get this thread at all. Are you calling youreself a novice?

If only newbies an novices use support, they're usually the only ones I see usin firelord too, or the old fashioned tk/bcf thing...maybe they aren't the novices, but just the people that don't wanna hafta think much in a game.
ahh well now see, to say that only a novice uses support pieces is asinine and condesending. I have, to the best of my knowledge NEVER seen a tourney won without the use of at lest one of the following on a team. a perplexer, a medic, an outwitter, a barrier thrower, a pcer, or a person to enhance range damage or attack. go ahead . I'd LOVE to see ANYONE come to a 300 point marvel only, or heck even DC only tourney, and WIN with only 208 points. I could be wrong( and it wouldn't be the first time) but Almost 100 points short, I don't believe there is any way you could do it. others would either have too many actions/ attacks, or you simply could not get through all thier figs without bieng wittled down.

My strategy is very simple - charge in with the taxi, then hit with the brick. Makes ranged combat and medics useless. I almost never use range, never use medics, and have a lot of success with that strategy.
hmmmm well, and a nice strategy it is, but do you play 92 points short of the build total? and none of your figs is there primarily for any of the other things I mentioned?

No - but he was specifying 208 points, so I used that as the basis. The 300 point team I used this weekend, for example, was:
Carter Hall
Adrian Toomes
Kirk Langstrom
V Logan
V Dr. Octopus
R Hawk
I've never used barrier. I used PC in a tourney once, and came in last. The only time I've made any real use out of a medic was a marquee where my pulls were so bad I didn't have a choice.
But if I was playing against a 300 point team that had 92 points worth of support figs, like the thread was originally about, then I think that I could beat it with a 208 point team - one like the one I posted.
wow this is pretty stupid.theres nothing wrong with a suport peice, and no im not a newbie.
ummm, I hate to say this, but a taxi IS support, at least in MY opinion, course what do I know?

Maybe a taxi who is only used to taxi is a support piece, but a charging taxi is an attacker. "Support piece" is usually referred to as someone used in the back, not to attack. A PC'er, a medic, a pure perplexer, etc.

All this time practicing and playing and stratagizing and winning and losing and learning and teaching and brainstorming and trading and buying and selling and eating and drinking and pooping and peeing Hero Clix, and I'm still a novice for using small point support pieces?!?!?What was I thinking?!?:( I must be silly! I never would have thought I could be so lame, but thank GOD you came along and showed me the error of my ways,Jay10.The shear Mind Lightning You must possess to come up with Firelord, Moondragon, and Spiral...208 POINTS!Ladies and Gentlemen, Meet the Bobby Fischer of Hero Clix....Jay10!!!
P.S. I'd do with the Crimson Dynamo/Abomination Combo.Nothing like Overextending all your resources on big point figures that a bunch of Outwitting,PCing low point figures can make thier b!^@h!:D That'll Show Em!!
LORD! now that is funny. had me almost fall out of my office chair! the bobby fischer of heroclix! Still giggling and people are starting to stare. I better go now. that was a good one.
Here, here ... I got it, I got it. I don't think Jay meant anything he said. I think he came up with his 92 pts of support and was asking us the best brawlers for 208 pts to complete his team.
If this is the case: I can't comment on team 2 until X-plosion comes out. Team 1 could work but Spiral is a little out of place. If I were you, I would either add a TK figure or take her out for a taxible brawler.

Wouldnt a flier with range still be able to blast you in H2H combat? Tho't they can still make range attacks with people in base contact, but no one else in that instance.....
Mad was the only one to get the point of this post right and I apreciate his(and everyone else's) reply. One thing though, one of the 3 figures I used in my first 208pt. example did have Tk, Moondragon(who is great for mind controlling people into Spiral or moving Spiral around).
However, I think I'll end up using Crimson Dynamo and Abomination, because, as Superfreak mentioned, there is nothing like over extending all your resources on big point figures that a bunch of Outwitting, PCing low point figures can destroy, that's the real fun of Hero Clix.
I'd love to continue this post but right now I got to go talk Superfreak down from a bridge(and nobody better remind him).;)
If you want a real game, drop Firelord altogether. Put in Dr. Strange, LE Dr Doom, V Doombot and Bullseye, Vet Torch, or any other similar piece.
Use Firelord if you can't win by any other means.
Or use Firelord if you want to be embarrassed by a decent opponent.
Your support pieces sound okay.
