Deadpool

I'm Arsenalroy2k and welcome back to another edition of Comic Accurate! As we keep traveling down the road to Giant Sized X-Men. Today, we visit some builds featuring everyone's favorite Merc with a Mouth, Deadpool!

Back in 1991 when Deadpool first debuted, one could not have predicted that a character who was invented as a knockoff of Deathstroke would eventually become a mainstream hit with what seems like a billion books coming out monthly and in theory, a solo movie in the works.

Click to read more... (http://www.hcrealms.com/forum/showthread.php?&t=304818) otherwise Wade's gonna go after your mom.

So what's our goal today? It's to build a bunch of teams based around several points in Wade's career. We're going to kick this off by taking a look at the latest Deadpool figure. The super-rare from Web of Spider-Man. That's going to be the piece we base all our teams around. And it's a solid piece because it's got great stats, strong powers and as a wildcard, he can work on any team you stick him on.

ws057 V Deadpool
Team: Spider-Man
Range: 8 :bolt::bolt:
Points: 158
Keywords: Agency X, Deadpool Corps, Frightful Four, Great Lakes Avengers, Martial Artist, Six Pack, Weapon X, X-Force

:star: Ridiculous Regeneration: Whenever Deadpool would be dealt damage from an attack, roll a d6 instead. On a result of 1, he takes that damage plus 1. On a result of a 2-3 he takes the normal amount of damage. On a result of a 4-5 he takes 1 damage. On a result of a 6, he heals 1 damage instead.

Let's start by having Wade team up with his on-again/off-again romantic interest, Siryn. These two worked together in his very first miniseries all the way back in 1994. It was them against Black Tom and Juggernaut.

#027 V Siryn
Team: X-men
Range: 8 :bolt:
Points: 94
Keywords: Fallen Angels, X-Factor, X-Force

Together, Deadpool and Siryn come out to 252 points. Throw the X-Force ATA on them (even though Siryn doesn't really need it) and you're up to 260. Now even if you used the whole 10% of feats (Stunning Blow on Siryn, Protected and Auto Regen on Deadpool), you're going to be ten points under. Add a White and an Indigo Lantern to help his Regen, should he ever land on those clicks. Sure, him using two lanterns doesn't make much sense, but how would that really be different from any of Wade's other plans?

I guess here, the A stands for "aching".

Eventually, Wade would be given his own ongoing series. Teamed with Weasel and Blind Al, he'd fight the likes of T-Ray, work with the Lightning Rods, travel back in time to a classic issue of Spider-Man (possibly the greatest Deadpool comic EVER) and junk shot Captain America.

Several issues into his run, Deadpool would eventually become a part of the weirdest incarnation of the Frightful Four to-date. It was him, Wizard, Taskmaster and Contstrictor. Weirdest thing about the group was that they didn't even fight the Fantastic Four! That's like the Sinister Six not going after Spider-Man, or the Brotherhood fighting Power Pack... it's just not done!

Altogether, this lineup comes out to 382 points. Yeah, there are versions of Taskmaster and Constrictor with the actual keywords, I know. But this Constrictor is cheaper than the LE, and the Vet Taskmaster is better than the experienced version. Anyways, throw a Protected or Healing Factor and Not So Special on Deadpool and Thunderbolts on Tasky, then enjoy! Or better yet, if you want to increase the build, know that Titania was also along for the ride around then, so throw her on to get the crew up to 467 then go with T-Bolts on Taskmaster and 25 more points in feats.

The Frightful Four wouldn't be the last team Deadpool would join though, as his keywords would attest. He'd join the Great Lakes Avengers (who don't exist in Heroclix), the Six Pack (missing key members like Hammer and GW Bridge), Weapon X (neither version he wanted to join), the Identity Disc crew (a good team to build if not expensive), "Code Red" (missing Lyra), the X-Men (kinda) and currently Uncanny X-Force (an article for a later day). But a lot of these came after his ongoing got cancelled.

http://www.hcrealms.com/forum/picture.php?albumid=1014&pictureid=14683
One of the many reasons "Power Man & Deadpool" never quite took off.

But Deadpool can't be kept down for long. In no time at all, he immediately got himself another book, this time with his old buddy Cable! Together, Wade tagged along as Cable went about becoming a savior/messiah type starting his own country, staging a coup in another, de-aging, aging and crossing over with the X-Men's books and Civil War right up until Cable's "death" (which happened before the series even ended).

mm075 V Soldier X
Team: X-Men

This Cable and Deadpool pairing come out to 264 points. Add the X-Force ATA, Protected and Auto Regen for Deadpool and Swingline for Cable and they hit 298. Now if you want a team that represents the series *after* Cable split? Just take Cable and Swingline off, then put in a HYDRA Footsoldier from Sinister to represent Bob. That'll come out to 196 points for a quickie low-point team.

And yes, I know there's a Cable/Deadpool duo and supposedly a Cable LE in GSX, but I'm working with what we've got.

http://www.hcrealms.com/forum/picture.php?albumid=1014&pictureid=14682
And with this, Deadpool became Joss Whedon's mortal enemy.

So "Cable & Deadpool" ended, and Cable went on to a new and utterly boring series before his fourth or fifth "death" (who's keeping count?). While Deadpool would go onto his own new and totally awesome ongoing. Fighting Skrulls, Osborn's Thunderbolts, Draculas... it has it all. And in a recent arc, Deadpool teamed up with a small portion of the Secret Avengers.

Deadpool and those three are 298 points exactly, no feats or ATAs. Enjoy wildcarding Avengers.

That brings us to today, where Deadpool has a ridiculous number of ongoings, miniseries and one-shots. One of those ongoings is Deadpool Team-up, which is ending soon, but whatever. Some of Deadpool's partners are Hercules (Him and Wade come out to 300 exactly!), Captain Britain, Machine Man, Gorilla Man, Thing, Thor, Iron Fist, and both Ghost Riders. To say nothing of all the other times he's teamed up with Spider-Man or Wolverine. So there's plenty of options out there for teams built around Wade. Try one that works for you!

Next time, we visit an X-Team that's way out there. Waaaaaay out there.

Nice article, I can't wait to try some of these teams! I do have one minor concern though; you metioned that the time-travel into a classic issue of Spider-Man story from Deadpool #11 (pictured alongside the start of your article) as "the greatest Deadpool comic EVER". Well, I respectfully disagree. In my opinion, the best Deadpool story comes from Deadpool #37 (also from Wade's first ongoing monthly).

In this particular issue, Deadpool has a run-in with Thor and Loki. Loki uses the chaos caused while Thor rescues civilians from a natural disaster to cast an enchantment to screw with his step-brother. Deadpool happened to be nearby at the time, so Loki made them think that Thor's power had abandoned him (turning the thunder god back into paramedic Jake Olsen) and that Wade had somehow become worthy enough to lift Mjolnir and claim Thor's power for himself! It turns out to be a trick, but Wade still spends most of the story flying around with powers copied from Thor. And what, you may ask, is the first thing he does with his newfound godly might? He flies to the nearest Taco Bell and asks the cashier for "37 gorditas... and some chips". Then, he shows up at Avengers Mansion looking to go on an adventure with his "teammates" when an angry and confused Jake Olsen catches up with him trying to reclaim Mjolnir. This only results in Justice (not recognizing either of them) using his telekinesis to throw them both out.

I know that #11 was your favorite and I agree that it was a great issue, but in my opinion, he has had many funnier adventures since then. I do, however, thank you for doing an article about my favorite comic character! ;)

Great article!
One thing to keep in mind though: Not So Special wouldn't work on Deadpool. His Ridiculous Regeneration prevent that.
Choose a character. Whenever this character attacks an opposing character possessing a Special Power, if this character currently possesses no Special Power or Traits, modify this character's attack value by +1.

I'm thinking about breaking him out this weekend actually :)

If you don't have to stick to the 10% rule for feats, I love this team:

Deadpool- 158
+X-Force- 4
+Auto regen- 12
+Elite Sniper- 20
+Inside Info- 4

Taskmaster- 75
+Thunderbolts- 8
+Nanobots- 10
+Not so Special- 3

Alfred (starring as a hostage or an innocent bystander)- 6

Total- 300. The team isn't perfect by any stretch, but it's fun to have these two team up for maximized mercenary fun.

Have people forgotten about the AV Taskmaster?

WoS - Deadpool + AV Taskmaster = 298
Modern Age team up (and not a bad one at that!)

I love the article, but...I have to disagree on 2 points, I personally thought that the Cable solo series was far from "boring". My wife however would agree with you. I found his struggle to survive was very interesting and very fitting for Cable. He survives, that's what he does. The only way to kill him off is by self-sacrifice (which he did.)

My favorite Deadpool story however has to be in the X,X Baby!! Arc. Where Deadpool, after an epic battle with Bullseye (another team up option to explore) decides to become a pirate. Bob the Hydra Agent joins up for the ride as Deadpool's parrot. Whenever Bob doesn't "squak" before he speaks Deadpool hits him with his, "learning stick". Classic.

Good article. I find it a little funny that an article called Comic Accurate features the WOS Deadpool because I find that figure to be very comic inaccurate.

I personally can't stand Deadpool. It's just the fact that DC can't have a comic named "Captain Marvel" (especially since Marvel's character doesn't even spell his name like that), but Marvel can blatantly rip off DC characters like Deathstroke and the Justice League and nothing gets done about it. Him getting a godly figure that single-handedly takes out other teams due to an overpowered trait and dial just makes it even worse. At most, he should have an ability that makes the opposing player cry at the sheer idiocy of his terrible pop-culture jokes (the same brand of jokes that makes Family Guy almost unwatchable these days). I can't wait until everyone finally gets sick of him and Marvel retires him for a while. That is all.

Love playing that team - glad to hear they won for you!

Or an older version I've played a few times, using the old V Deadpool:
V Deadpool
R Cable
R Domino
= 196 points, enough for Alias on DP (his hologram disguiser thingy)

That V Deadpool is still good to this day, and it's nice to have the versatility available to make comic-accurate teamups. He works much more neatly with starter Thing, for instance - just put Alias (again) and Auto-regen on him for the 15 points and go to town.

Now I just wish I had the E version to team up with HoT Thor.

Liefeld is a hack, never had an original idea in his life, and can't draw anything but over-muscled guys with no fingers or feet. The fact that he blatantly ripped off DC's Deathstroke down to the name (Wade Wison/Slade Wilson, so sly) and gave him a Spider-man comedy personality makes me loathe this character, and avoid any of his clix like the plague.

That said- good article! lol

That is kind of a good point. I never quite understood Deadpool's conceptual origins. Like, there are SO MANY THINGS that are ridiculously similar to Deathstroke, its hard to tell what of Deadpool was meant as a playful jab at DC, or a parody of some sort, and what of him is just Liefeld saying "OH MAN THIS GUY IS GONNA BE SWEEEEET"

This was a really cool article, btw.

Looked into it. Don't remember Taskmaster ever making a team his life-long enemies because they killed his kid, or testing the same team to see if they were family enough to take care of the rest of his messed-up family. I just don't see enough of a resemblance there, sorry.

Just thought of another comic-accurate Deadpool team with the older version:
V Deadpool
HoT Captain America
AV Bucky
V HYDRA Operative (Bob)
= 200 points exactly.
You get Leadership and Avengers free move via Cap to potentially move all 4 characters in a turn. This is a dangerous team for this build total, with both DP and Cap providing offense, Bucky as a harasser/secodary attacker, and Bob to throw in front of whichever character may need to be kept busy for a turn or two.

(Special) No Hiding From Death: Mistress Death ignores friendly characters and hindering terrain for line of fire purposes. Mistress Death cannot be carried, healed, placed by Telekinesis, or targeted by Perplex.

(Special) Death Can Never Die: Once per game, when Mistress Death would be KO'd, instead place her on this card. If Mistress Death is on this card when an opposing character is KO'd, you may roll a d6. On a roll of 6, return her to the map in any square on click #6. (Damage) All Become My Servants, Eventually: Once per game, when an opposing character is KO'd, if that character is a lower point value than an already KO'd character from your force, you may place the opposing character adjacent to Mistress Death on their starting click as part of your force. That's 298 points, maybe throw in the ever-useful tank turret for some hard to destroy hindering terrain.
I guess the best bet would be using DP for Death's mastermind, hoping for good regen rolls. Use the perplex whenever possible on Death, to state the obvious.

Also using the R Deadpool and tank turret for point filler, a fun, quick 100 point teamup with Bob:

(Speed) I'm Really Good at Hiding Behind Others: Lines of fire drawn to Bob, Agent of Hydra are blocked if he's adjacent to a friendly character that's either 150 points or more or named Deadpool.

(Damage) Cowardice is my Attack! Your Death is my Victory!: As long as Bob, Agent of Hydra is not within 3 sqares of an opposing character, he can use Probability Control, but only during an opponent's turn.

In Deadpool Team-Up #888, the ever-lovin' blue-eyed Thing guest stars, perfectly matched with the Exp. version for a 200-point build:

(Damage) Lemme Grab Somethin': Thing can use Super Strength. Give Thing a move action when he has no action tokens and is not holding an object; after actions resolve, give him a standard light object from outside the game.

In #897 (one of the rare admittedly mediocre issues of this run), he encountered both Ghost Riders:

(Speed) Wrestler: Hercules can use Charge, Flurry, and Plasticity.

(Attack) Godlike Strength: Hercules can use Super Strength. He can carry two objects at the same time if they are both standard objects; he can use only one object per attack.

Leaving the Team-Up issues alone for now, I'll revisit the Suicide Kings miniseries, where he teams up with Spidey, Daredevil, and the Punisher:

I used to use SI Punisher for 400 points even, but going to the old Ultimates Vet gives you frontloaded stealth and room for the Great Lakes Avengers ATA on Wade, which Spidey can copy. X-Force ATA works too, but kind of redundant for Spidey to wildcard. Your call.

Last one for today, just for fun. Back in Deadpool Team-Up #884 (yes, back to those), we had a hilarious guest appearance from Uatu, the Watcher:

That's 285, leaving room for the ever-popular Automatic Regeneration on Wade, or even the tragically underused Taunt feat, which is more appropriate and thematic on Deadpool than anyone, save for possibly Spidey.

My rum glass is now empty, so it's time to end my mental diarrhea for the night.
