View Full Version : DVD Marathon: The Toddler Strikes Back!

Welcome to the third game in my continuing DVD Marathon series: The Toddler Strikes Back! First the rules of the mafia game:
1) All the standard disclaimers apply (no contacting each other outside the game unless specifically told you can do so, no quoting PMs I send you, no talking once you are removed from the game, no editing your posts, etc)
2) If you have not been told you have a specific alignment in your role PM, then you are TOWN. Whatever your alignment, you will win when all threats to your alignment have been eliminated or when your alignment couldn’t possibly lose.
3) When determining the order of night actions, if two actions would conflict, I will go with the action that was submitted first. Hopefully this will encourage you to submit actions on time :)
4) If you fail to send in night actions three nights in a row, I will either replace or mod-kill you, depending on what is best for the game.
5) Please bold your votes for other characters like so: VOTE for normalview. I will take any and all posts that are reasonably close to a lynch vote (e.g. “lynch normalview”, “vote: normalview”, etc) as long as they are in bold.
6) Last but not least, not only are you all playing characters from my family’s DVD collection, you are caricatures of those characters. For example, even if Superman has made a repeat appearance from Super Friends, don’t be surprised if he does/can do some very un-Superman like stuff… after all, he was really a lunatic on that show when you stop and think about it.

“I’ve got a bowl full of popcorn and an entire day to finally catch up on all those new DVDs I got for Christmas,” Jeff said to himself as he headed toward the entertainment center. Jeff usually does talk to himself, so you may as well get used to it now.
As Jeff neared the entertainment center he noticed something seemed amiss. Several of the DVD cases he had set out on the lower shelf earlier today, ready and waiting for his viewing pleasure, were now crammed into another shelf (most of them upside down). “Looks like Veronica has been ‘helping’ me put the DVDs away again,” Jeff sighs. Placing the popcorn bowl on the coffee table, he begins to inspect the damage.
“H through L are all jumbled together… gotta fix that.”
“Apparently the first season of MacGyver really belongs in the Sesame Street boxes…”
“Well, there’s no peanut butter in the Family Guy box… this time. So that’s something, I guess.”
“How did she even reach that shelf up there? She must be more monkey than I had thought…”
As Jeff continued to straighten out the mess, he failed to notice one rather large boxed set of DVDs perched precariously on top of the entertainment center (seriously, is she part cat or something?). Yanking on one particularly stubborn DVD case wedged into the space between the shelves, the sudden motion caused the boxed set to tumble from its perch and strike Jeff right on the noggin! I mean, it was like “WHAM!” and then he was all like “BAM!” down on the floor and anyone watching would have been like “OH NOES!”. It was pretty sweet.
Anyway, the last thing Jeff sees before drifting off into the comforting embrace of unconsciousness is the grinning face of Elmo staring at him with his wide, fake grin and fixed, dead eyes. The little bit of blood spattered across the surface of the DVD case, partially obscuring Elmo’s body, seemed oddly appropriate… Jeff never did trust that creepy little bastard!
***
Deep in the recesses of Jeff’s mind, barely healed from previous psychological trauma brought about by other DVD mishaps, THINGS began to stir:
***
“Now is the time to strike,” hissed a voice, full of anger and cheerfulness, “with The Daddy out of the way, his DVDs are vulnerable!” A cacophony of other high pitched voiced shouted their agreement.
***
“The Daddy is incapacitated, so we must prepare for an assault from The Toddler’s forces,” a strong, reassuring voice told the gathering. “However, we have been planning for such a contingency and we are far from weak. We will repel any and all attackers and then take the fight to them. We WILL be victorious!”
The gathering set out to prepare for the confrontation ahead.
***
“It has begun.”
“I know. We all knew it would come to this one day.”
“Indeed. And we are all tired of this… unpleasantness. But what if we could end it all? Once and for all. No more fighting. No more anger. Just peace. What would you say to that?”
“That sounds very interesting… and I know a few others that would say the same.”
***
Jeff (normalview) has been incapacitated… again… and removed from the game. Day 1 begins now and will end in 24 hours. With 16 players remaining, 9 votes are needed for majority.

You're thinking of the game before that. This was the RPG mafia.
Also, to the mod, you may need to replace Song. She hasn't been around for quite some time.

I'm giving her until the end of the phase to show up, or I'm mod killing her.

We don't mind Elmo at our house. You just have to keep the doses of him to a minimum. My daughter is young enough that she watches Sesame Street still. We hate Barney probably more than anything. My oldest son watched him all the time. We never turned him on for my second son. Barney and Teletubbies were shows that my first son watched, but we tried to keep my second son away from them altogether.

In the darkness of the void, swirling movement could just barely be seen by the mind’s eye. Something was happening…
***
A handsome man was hunched over, working quietly and trying to stay out of sight. He stood up, his work complete and ready to move on when he noticed a singing blonde coming towards him. Momentarily distracted, he tripped over the fruits of his labor and was sent sprawling.
***
Other shapes flittered hither and yon in the vortex of Jeff’s unconsciousness, most accomplishing their missions with ease. However, one poor soul, returning from his latest adventure, was viciously struck from behind by a small form. Collapsing under the rending and tearing, the poor adventurer was quickly unrecognizable.
Wade Wilson is dead! He was ??????
The small form bounced away into the darkness, but just before it could disappear completely, it was hit by a flurry of fists and feet. Two attackers smashed into the small form, one methodical and precise and the other savage and brutal, and by the time they were done, there was nothing left of the small form.
Quebbster is dead! He was ??????
***
The violence and action swirled around the fat child (SCREW YOU! I AM JUST BIG BONED!), the rest of the characters in Jeff’s mind ignoring him completely. He didn’t seem to be particularly motivated himself, choosing to ignore the goings on around him.
“This sucks! You all are a bunch of hippies and I hate you! What am I even doing here? Jeff doesn’t even have any DVDs of my show, he just watching them streaming from the website! SCREW YOU GUYS, I AM GOING HOME!”
zyltK6pmJGg
Song of Ice and Fire has left the game, completely uninvolved in the war raging around her character and having no impact what-so-ever. She was Eric Cartman (neutral)
***
The activities then seemed to come to a stop and all was quite in the black dreamscape. At least for now. Who knows what sort of violence the next few hours might have in store?

Agreed on the Cartman stuff being a good bit.
I'm not sure if it matters, but I have a guess on Wade's character based on the clues: adventurer, uses the term "souls". Has to be Uncle Traveling Matt from Fraggle Rock.

I got a message saying I had a post restriction, but not an actual post restriction from the mod. I believe we have a note passer in our midst. Kind of honored though, my first time getting a note.
Based on the write-up, looks like Quebbs may have been scum making a hit, then got hit by a SK. All speculation since we don't know who Wade or Quebbs were, though the Fraggle Rock reference makes sense. For now, I may not want to violate a message with potential consequences, so my next and only post will be a vote, or a leaving of vote with a trusted party of my choosing.

My father and I both used to watch that show regularly. Every adventure he would refer to humans as "strange souls" and he stated his profession as an adventurer/explorer.
You targeted me last night. Are you claiming you didn't send me anything?

Sorry guys for the delay.
Okay, to come clean since someone guessed it. I am the Hanna Barbara kids cartoon character Peter Pottomus. I wasn't allowed to describe myself or my power unless someone guessed my ID. As part of my role I am required to send out a "thing" every night. These things are MD's.
If you're familiar with the character, his tag line is "Did you get the thing I sent you?".
Therefore to stay in character I should have stated from the start, "Get_1, Did you get that thing I sent you?"
Once again, sorry for the delay as work has been hell lately.

The last few hours saw some activity and one of the figments of Jeff’s psychosis was threatened by some of the other figments, but the activity could not sustain itself and the dimly seen shapes drifted back into the darkness.

One again, after the relatively peace of the last 24 hours, the darkness (and the creatures hidden within) began to stir in earnest…
***
A round shape was minding its own business, just trying to get from point A to point B, when it was jumped and dog-piled by a group of other shapes and forms!
Nothing much would result out of that tangled mess tonight…

An odd looking character set out upon some of its own business, too, moving confidently and surely towards its task. Out of nowhere, it was tackled and bowled over by a whirling cloud of fists and feet. Initially take by surprise, the odd looking character quickly rose to the challenge, fighting back with all its strength. The two struggled and battled into the night, neither gaining the upper hand. Finally, near the end of the night, exhaustion finally overcame both of them and the fight ended with no clear victor.

The handsome man was hard at work creating another one of his fantastic devices, when he felt the hard barrel of a gun pressed into his back. A figure in a jumpsuit had appeared behind the handsome man and said, “Before I kill you, I want you to tell me exactly how this thing works… I am always looking for new brilliant inventions.”
Thinking quickly, the handsome man began explaining the device and then, ever so casually, flipped a level that caused part of the device to spring out towards Jumpsuit’s face. Jumpsuit instinctively raised his hands to protect himself, taking the gun off the handsome man. The handsome man then grabbed another one of his inventions and dove off a nearby bridge to make his getaway.
“Whew,” MacGyver thought to himself, “That was close. This war is heating up faster than I had thought. I had better head back to the Phoenix Foundation and see if Pete knows of a better way to handle this.”

The jumpsuited figure watched from the side of the bridge as his prey escaped. “Curses! Foiled again!” Jumpsuit muttered to himself while shaking his fist at the back of the rapidly departing MacGyver.
“Well, at least I still have this interesting looking toy,” Jumpsuit turned back towards the device MacGyver had been building, hoping to ascertain its function, when a powerful blow knocked him to the ground. Before he even really knew it, he was being pummeled mercilessly by cold, unyielding fists. The attacker uttered no sound, but continued mechanically until the jumpsuit clad figure no longer stirred.
The attacker stepped back to survey its work, and after a moment the jumpsuited man twitched a bit. The attacker watched impassively as Lex Luthor, with a grunt of supreme effort, stood up and said, “Screw this. If I am going to get my ### kicked, I can do that at home. The Super Friends usually just lecture you and I've been working on a new routine for the Legion, anway…” Luthor slowly limps away and the attacker, satisfied that his target is no longer a threat, retreats as well.

“Debbie! I love ya baby!” CRASH
“Crow, would you cut that out?!? You don’t know any Debbie!”
“Oh, Debbie!” *SOB* “Why did you leave me, DEBBIE?” SMASH
“Crow, get down from there! You’re breaking everything! You’ve been acting crazy ever since that Publisher’s Clearing House letter arrived the other day… that was junk mail! It wasn’t from any Debbie!”

So we have two mafias.... In a game this small that is kind of surprising.
So both mafias are probably on the smallish side I would think.
I also find it kind of funny that the last two nights a killer has been killed right after making their hit.
This should be obvious.

Once again, sorry for the delay as work has been hell lately.
but Peter Potamus's tagline is only "Did you get the thing I sent you?" in Harvey Birdman: Attorney at Law.
NOT his original kids' cartoon.
I'm pretty Harvey Birdman is one of Daddy's cartoons. And in light of Silver Lantern's alignment last night...

I will have to trust you on the character details as other than knowing this character existed I have never seen HBM. Wikipedia doesn't say anything about a tagline on it. I only remember him beating his enemies by breathing a huricane on them in the kids show. The only reason I know about the tag line is it was in the Mod's description of my character, but he called it a Hanna-Barberra character and not HBM.
Also, I went back and reread the Night 1 writeup again and think my Uncle Matt guess may be wrong. It said adventerer, not explorer. Wade could have been Diego the adventurer from Dora the Explorer. Not sure what that is worth to you guys.
Peter Potamus later became a recurring character on the parody show Harvey Birdman, Attorney at Law, where he is voiced in a Brooklyn accent by Joe Alaskey and later voiced by Chris Edgerly. In it, he is a sexually charged hippo working in the firm with Harvey Birdman. He has the trademark phrase, "Did you get that thing I sent you?". Starting at episode 6 of season 3, Return of Birdgirl, Peter's hands have been changed to stumps.
Sounds like an adult cartoon's character to me.
Yeah, 'cuz sexually charged characters never show up in kids cartoons.

There was a sneaking quality to the veiled forms in the darkness tonight. Rather than the brutal and forceful assault of the previous night, this time the shapes seemed to prefer to skulk around in the nooks and crannies of Jeff’s unconscious mind, jockeying for position and the most advantageous strike while simultaneously trying to limit their own vulnerabilities and weaknesses. It was rather like a game of chess… if chess involved cartoon characters dueling with puppets in a life or death struggle for DVD dominance. So, really, nothing at all like chess. But Jeff’s addled brain approved of the metaphor nonetheless so that’s what we’re going with.
During these strategic struggles, sometimes sinister shapes shown through the swirling shreds of Stygian s… something that begins with “s”. The most clear glimpses were:
***
The merciless attacker was on the move, stalking through the black with machine-like precision. Before it could reach its destination, though, it was bowled over by a whirling cloud of fists and feet! Reacting with an uncanny speed and strength, the merciless attacker fought its assailant to stand still, neither combatant giving an inch. The titanic struggle continued on for hours, deadlocked, until they both realized that neither could gain the upper hand. With grudging respect, the battle was ended, but precious time had been wasted and no more could be done tonight.
***
A flash of orange descended upon its target with a hellish cry that pierced the very souls of all who heard it. At the last possible moment, an odd looking character dove in front of the intend target, taking the full brunt of the brightly colored assault. Both the attacker and the target ran in opposite directions, neither one anxious to engage in open combat, leaving the odd looking form crumpled on the ground.
***
The giant, monstrous shape lumbered through the inky darkness, satisfied with its accomplishments for the night. Out of the darkness a, red blob hurtled unseen towards the back of the giant. The poor fellow never even knew what hit him…
Y-Fye4sHQp4
ChiRocker is dead! He was Big Bird (Toddler Mafia)!
***
As the rest of the swirling shapes retreated back into the depths of Jeff’s broken psyche, the odd looking character stirred. Sitting up with a grunt, it slowly dusted itself off, muttered something about “remember to wear a helmet” and then sauntered off into the darkness.
One player has been silenced and may not be lynched!

Perhaps IR is simply saying that a roleblocking neutral is not as much of a threat as a confirmed killer in a game with three mafias. Additionally, with no confirmed townie deaths, it is possible that there is no town. If there were no town, then your Vig claim would mean that you are indeed mafia. Which is highly likely.

There are three mafias in this game. Daddy's mafia. Toddler's mafia. Can't We all Just Get Along? Mafia.
Now we started the game with 17 players. With three mafias in the game, it is highly possible that there is no town. If each mafia had 5 players at the start of the game and myself and Song were neutral, then there is no town. It's not rocket science. Now, could there be a town? Sure. I'm just suggesting that it's possible there is no town. This game could be a mafia free for all. Both are plausible ideas. I just feel that my idea has a lot more fact to back it up. Since everyone that has died has shown up as mafia or neutral.

In the inky recesses of Jeff’s brain, things were plotting. Many expressed frustration over the seemingly sure kill that slipped away from them just a few hours ago. Others pointed out how the sneaky tactics from the previous night had yielded fairly fruitful results. After much conversation, the dark shapes had formulated their attack plans and set out to do their work on the blasted landscape of the mind.

Finally, near the end of the night, exhaustion finally overcame both of them and the fight ended with no clear victor.

A red blob hurtled towards its target, unseen and deadly, when a sparkling curtain shimmered into being around the red form. “Yo Gabba Gabba!” shrieked a voice and the red form plopped down onto the ground, turned into a miniature toy version of itself!
***
Happy that he had a new toy to add to his collection, the orange clad man reached down to pick up the red toy. I have to admit, I was kinda hoping for DJ Lance. My wife keeps bugging me to dress up like him for Halloween, but I just can't bring myself to do it.
I can't stand the show, but they do have some pretty cool guest stars that appear from time to time.

I'm from a TV show. We haven't seen a movie yet.
I am not. Nobody who has died was from a movie.
All of normalview's previous games have been based on TV series.
And (the final nail in the coffin), the list of DVDs he said he was likely to draw from in the sign-up thread were all TV shows...indicating that's what the game is about:
Aqua Teen Hunger Force
Dora the Exlporer
Drawn Together
Family Guy
Fraggle Rock
MacGyver
The Muppet Show
Mystery Science Theater 3000
Scooby-Doo
Sesame Street
Super Friends
Okay, get's convinced me.

2/3 of 9 is 6 which means...
A majority has been reached!
The war had been brutal so far and many had fallen. Those still fighting were itching to avenge their fallen comrades, particularly in light of the lack-luster showing the previous day.
Their opponent was not one to be trifled with, though, and it took a coordinated effort to bring down the cold, merciless, unfeeling, thrusting machine...

Numbers dwindling, the dark shapes were no less vicious for the scarcity. Attacking with a ferocity that surpassed anything yet seen in Jeff’s twisted dream world, by the time the night was over, their numbers were even fewer.
***
A red blob was sitting still, one of the few minding its own business, when a whirling cloud of fists and feet fell upon it with unbridled fury. With a shriek and a squawk, the pair battled throughout the night.
***
The odd looking character cursed his foul luck, seeing his target disappear into the swirling cloud. No way was he getting anywhere close to that, even if he did remember his crash helmet this time. As he stepped away from his hiding spot, trying to decide what to do next, he glanced up just in time to see the headlights of the vehicle that ran him down!

Grinner is dead! He was Gonzo the Great, performance artist, stunt driver, and chicken enthusiast (Toddler’s Mafia)
***
The snake-like creature was humming quietly to itself, satisfied with a job well done. As it began to inventory its list of chores for the next night, snatches of music and singing caught its attention. The noise seemed to be coming from around the corner, so the snake-like creature went around to investigate… and as its head rounded the corner, a mighty “HIIIIIEEEE-YAAAAAAA!” severed its robotic head from its robotic body.

And thus ends a bloody evening. Just gallons of the stuff everywhere. Or, actually, stuffing and hydraulic fluid. But you get the point. Jeff’s brain was just covered in gore. The non-gory kind of gore, I mean.
Annnnnyway, the take home message is that there are only a few figments left flitting around inside Jeff’s skull… the war was nearly over. Who would survive? Which faction would win?

“Oh, will you all just hurry up and kill him!” shouted the excitable red robot.
“Yeah, I’ve been hiding out with those other guys long enough,” added the stunning redhead, “Let’s finish this and translate later.”
“Rine. Ring rim rup.”

“Ugh… what hit me?”
Jeff sat up and gingerly touched his scalp. He quickly pulled his fingers away from the stinging sensation and saw they were sticky with almost dried blood. Looking around, he saw the Elmo DVD box set that has caused the damage (little %$^#er has the nerve to still smile at me after all it had done) and threw it across the room.
After pausing for a moment to assess any further damage, Jeff decided he was more or less okay and tried to stand. A little wobbly, but he managed to stay on his feet. “Huh, well that sucked,” he said to himself (remember, he likes to talk to himself) and, glancing at the clock, “Damn… I was out for most of the day! And I didn’t even get to watch any of my DVDs. Some day off…”
Sitting down on the couch, Jeff was trying to decide if he wanted to go to the hospital to get his head wound looked at (he had had the oddest dreams about Lex Luthor battling MacGyver while the Humping Robot humped a bunch of people to death…maybe he was concussed?) when his family came in through the garage door.
“Daddy! We’re home!” shouted his daughter.
“That’s nice sweetheart, but Daddy’s head hurts. Can we please use our inside voice?”
“Sorry, Daddy… what are you doing?” she asked gesturing to all the DVDs strewn about the floor.
“Daddy tried to watch some of his shows but he got an owie. Do you want to help me clean up?”
“No. Let’s watch a show!”
“Hmm… I guess we could. My head doesn’t really hurt too much. Sure, let’s watch something together.”
And so they did.
Thanks for playing everyone. Roles and notes to follow later today (I’ll be pretty busy this afternoon and likely won’t get to it until tonight), but in a nutshell, the “Can’t We All Just Get Along?” Mafia won mostly because it seemed like the night actions always tended to target one of the other two mafias… the “Can’t We All Just Get Along?” Mafia was hardly touched the whole time and quickly able to just out action the rest. Plus, they made the most use of their spies and passing information around.
Feel free to talk it over and post your own roles if you get bored. Also, any and all feedback you care to give me will be greatly appreciated.

Toddler’s Mafia!
Immortal_Raven ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yo_Gabba_Gabba! )
You are DJ Lance Rock from the Nick Jr show Yo Gabba Gabba! With your magical powers, you bring toys to life and teach music and life lessons to children… so it is only natural that you must CRUSH all who would seek to divert the children's attention from your fantastical realm! You are the Don of the Toddler Mafia and you must lead the rest of your Toddler DVD characters to complete domination over the lesser DVDs. As Don, you will submit the final night actions for your group, have the final say on who will make the night kill, and you will require a 2/3rds majority to lynch as long as at least one other mafia member is still in the game. For your night action, you can use your magic powers to temporarily turn your target into a toy replica of themself, role blocking them for the night. If you are selected to make the night kill, you can't be tracked as you stalk your target.
ChiRocker ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Big_bird )
You are Big Bird, one of the most beloved and iconic of all children's television characters. This makes you a natural choice to be on the front line in the battle against non-children's television DVDs and you will use all your soft-spoken, muppet power to take the Toddler mafia to victory. Each night you can choose a target and you will read them a story. They will be so entranced by your words that they will be silenced and unable to post the next day. If you are selected to make the night kill, you will follow your target around Sesame Street (or whever they go) before killing them so that you can see who they interacted with (AKA you will track your target).
deadshot042 ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dora_the_explorer )
You are the trusty MAP! That Dora the Explorer uses on all of her adventures. Dora is currently off traveling the world with her cousin Diego, but when she heard of the battle against the non-children's televsion DVDs, she sent you along to aid DJ Lance's Toddler Mafia in the war. With your uncanny ability to accurately chart out the best direction to go, once per night you can guide one of your fellow mafia members to their chosen target (they can't be MD'd or bus driven off their chosen target, but they can still be role blocked or JK'd). If you are selected to make the night kill, you will give your target false directions to their target, randomly misdirecting them before you kill them.
The guide would have gone through anything except JK’s… and it turns out the guided killer targeted a JK’d character one night (so it failed) and then the other night the killer himself was JK’d, so the guide couldn’t even target the killer to try to guide him. Just bad luck.
Quebbster ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Go,_Diego,_Go! )
You are Baby Jaguar, Diego's constant companion on his adventures in the jungle and co-star of the show Go, Diego, Go! Diego is currently traveling with his cousin Dora, but he has sent you to support the Toddler Mafia in their struggle. Each night, you can use your keen feline senses to track your target where ever it may go. If you are selected to make the night kill, your savage attack will leave the target unreconizable, Janitoring the target.
I think losing Baby Jaguar the first night really hurt, since they lost their tracker and their janitor. In fact, I was surprised that janitoring wasn’t used more often by the other teams. I think it could have added a lot more paranoia to the game… but that’s just me, I guess.
Ginner ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gonzo_the_Great )
You are Gonzo the Great, performance artist, daredevil, and chicken ethusiast. While some of the Muppets are most certainly more adult entertainment oriented, you live for nothing more than cheering and adulation of the children and have thrown in your lot with the Toddler Mafia. Once per night, you can select a target and use your amazing skills as a stuntman to dive in front of your target and protect them from harm, bodying guarding them and taking the hit in their place (you have a chance to survive the hit, too, but I am not going to tell you what it is... suspenseful, no?). If you are selected to make the night kill and you successfully kill your target, you will also steal their vote and have an extra vote during the next day phase (if you do not kill them, nothing happens).
Gonzo was the traitor on this team and he could have won with the “Can’t We All Just Get Along?” Mafia. Miss Piggy (Vevilaughs) was his contact. But for some reason he never sent any messages. That’s fine, it was technically optional. I just thought it would have been a lot more fun to manipulate things to your advantage… especially once the multiple mafias were revealed.
Daddy’s Mafia
Silver Lantern ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Macgyver )
You are MacGyver, TV action star, master inventor, and all around awesome guy (so awesome he makes a mullet look good). Because of your awesomeness, you are a natural choice to head the Daddy Mafia as Don and lead the other adult oriented DVDs against the children's DVDs. As Don, you will submit the final night actions for your group, have the final say on who will make the night kill, and you will require a 2/3rds majority to lynch as long as at least one other mafia member is still in the game. Once per night, you can create a fantastic device from any nearby spare parts, bits of string, and globs of chewing gum to accomplish one of the following effects: Bus Driver, Jail Keeper, Lightning Rod (will randomly attract 25% of the remaining players to your target), Name Cop, or Silencer. Just tell me which power you wish to use and who you wish to use it on, but you must use all the powers on the list before you can choose to use one a second time. If you are selected to make the night kill, you won't actually kill your target (Mac doesn't use guns after all), but you will have the Phoenix Foundation hide the target away in a safe house for the rest of the game, Janitoring the target.
His powers could have been really useful for his mafia. Dying night 2 like that really crippled this team. Plus he was frikkin’ MacGyver… I was plenty pissed when he went out so early, so that’s why I had him “escape” instead of just dying.
tpchid ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harvey_Birdman,_Attorney_at_Law )
You are Peter Potamus, attorney Phil Ken Sebbeb's law firm and co-worker with Harvey Birdman, Attorney at Law. Your hijinks on the Adult Swim line-up has firmly entrenched you in the adult oriented side of the DVD collection and you have joined MacGyver in his battle to take out the more kiddie friendly DVDs. Once per night, you can target a player sending them a "thing"... the next day, you must ask them in a post "Did you get that thing I sent you?" and if they do not reply to you before the end of the phase, they will be night killed the next night. You must ask a specific player if they got the thing; if you ask the wrong player (perhaps you were misdirected the night before) or if you just make a general post to no one specific player, there will be no risk of a night kill. If you are chosen to make a night kill, you will engage your target in inane, watercooler-esque conversation which will cause the player to be silenced if your NK fails (e.g. if they are doctored).
Targeted get_1 the first night and failed the second night. I chose to interpret the wording of this power strictly; by that, I mean that even though get_1 came on right away and said he got a “thing” during the night, since he never specifically replied to tpchid’s question late in the phase, I chose to have the bomb go off… which is what killed Crow. But since get_1 could survive one night kill, Tom hung around to stay in the game. In other words, they chose to target the *ONE* player in the entire game that could “survive” this power if it went off successfully. Too bad, too, since I thought this one could have been a lot of fun.
michiganj24 ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gypsy_(Mystery_Science_Theater_3000) )
You are Gypsy, the robot in charge of maintaining the Satellite of Love on the show Mystery Science Theater 3000. While a silly show, this is one of Daddy's favorites and does tend to use scary B-grade (or even Z-grade) monster movies, making it not all that appropriate for children, and MacGyver has talked you into maintaining the Daddy Mafia camp. In an effort to keep the place from falling apart, you can choose a target to doctor, keeping children's DVD from doing one of your crew any real harm. If you are selected to make the night kill, you will first put the Satellite on Red Alert and the cacophony and flashing lights will role block your target before you kill them.
I thought having a straight up doctor might be a little too unbalancing for this mafia, but I left it in anyway since some of the other mafias had some pretty potent abilities. Turns out, it never came into play. Michigan never ended up targeting anyone that was night killed.
JRS4 ( http://wiki.adultswim.com/xwiki/bin/Robot+Chicken/Humping%20Robot )
You are the Humping Robot from the show Robot Chicken. Another mainstay of the Adult Swim line up, your show is most definitely not for kids and MacGyver believes you could be an invaluable asset to his team… just stay away from his inventions, please. Once per night, you can target a player and they (or, more accurately, any machine or device they carry) will be the subject of your amorous attentions, dragging them into the write up. If you are selected for the night kill, your furious robotic thrusts will not long be denied, impeded, or otherwise lead astray allowing you to proceed even in the face of misdirection.
I sooooooo wanted to write up this dragging power. However, they chose to use the Humping Robot as their primary hitman after the first night. And the one night they tried to use the Drag, he targeted the JK’d guy.
DroppinSuga ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daphne_Blake )
You are Daphne Blake, hot red head from the various Scooby-Doo TV shows. Ostensible a kid's show, Daddy has enjoyed Scooby-Doo his entire life and has refused to give it up just because he's an adult and you have be recruited to the cause fighting with the other adult DVD stars against the children's DVDs. Once per night, you can use your alluring good looks to convince your target to target another character of your choice (controlled misdirect). If you are selected to make the night kill, once again your beauty kicks in and confuses the target, forcing them to target a random player before you kill them (random misdirect).
Daphne was the traitor on this team and he could have won with the “Can’t We All Just Get Along?” Mafia. Scooby-Doo (Morpheousdr3am3r) was his contact. But for some reason he only ever sent one message and that was fairly late in the game. I just thought it would have been a lot more fun to manipulate things to your advantage… especially once the multiple mafias were revealed.
”Can’t We All Just Get Along?” Mafia
Morpheousdr3am3r ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scooby-doo )
You are Scooby-Doo, a character beloved by both the Toddler and Daddy. You have had enough of the constant bickering between the Toddler's favorites and the Daddy's favorites and you have brought together a group of DVDs that advocates the ideal of "Can't We All Just Get Along?"... and advocates with VIOLENCE! By the time your group is done, the other DVDs will either cooperate or they'll be gone; no compromises. You are the Don of your group and, as Don, you will submit the final night actions for your group, have the final say on who will make the night kill, and you will require a 2/3rds majority to lynch as long as at least one other mafia member is still in the game. Once per night, you can use your keen sense of smell to determine who has been in contact with your target (reverse tracking the target). If you are selected to make the night kill, your disarming smile, wacky disguises, and general friendliness will prevent your kill from being doctored... by the time the doctor would know you're there to kill, it is too late.
Funnily enough, morph spent most of the game RT-ing people that were not ever targeted by other players.
Vevilaughs ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Miss_Piggy )
You are Miss Piggy, leading lady of the Muppet Show and an incredibly talented diva. You are also prone to violent karate-fueled outbursts when things don't go your way. Because of your talents, you have been recruited to bring peace to the warring DVDs, even if it means you must karate chop them out of existence to do so. Once per night, you can use your talented singing and dancing to confuse and misdirect your target, forcing them to target a random player instead of their intended target. If you are selected to make the night kill, with a mighty "Hai-Yaa!" you will chop through any attempt to block your action.
Cornucopia ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ernie_the_Giant_Chicken#Gag_characters )
You are the Giant Chicken from Family Guy, an almost fundamental force of violence and barely contained rage given physical form. And for some odd reason, Daddy let's his Toddler watch this ridiculous show and she seems to like it almost as much as he does. You will use your ferocious attacks to help end the war between the other DVDs. Once per night, you will engage your target in a marathon, knock-down, drag-em' out brawl, keeping them occupied and out of the loop for the entire night (you will Jail Keep them, blocking their action and preventing others from targeting them). If you are selected to make the night kill, your full potential will be unleashed and there will be nothing left to identify after your are through pummeling your target, Janitoring them.
Since the other two mafias had some kind of protective role (doctor, body guard), the JK was meant to be a way to help protect this mafia (either by JKing a likely killer or JKing one of their own likely to draw heat). And it worked beautifully. I don’t know if you guys were just really lucky or just really good at getting into your opponent’s heads, but the JK saved your bacon pretty much every night (except he first, obviously, when the Chicken made a kill).
Rokk_Krinn ( http://www.seanbaby.com/superfriends/luthor.htm (warning: adult language content) )
You are Lex Luthor, the evil genius that sought to take over the universe and pit himself agains the most powerful superheroes in existence with nothing but a jumpsuit and a severe personality disorder on his side. The Legion of Doom has let you down time and time again, so when Scooby-Doo approached you about joining his cause, you easily agreed to help stop this war of DVDs. Since you are a master criminal, once per night you can target another player and steal their vote for the next day phase, doubling your vote. If you are selected to make the night kill, you will carefully observe your target on your galaxy-spanning camera network and see who else has targeted the same player before you make the kill (you will reverse track your target).
Like MacGyver, I liked the role so much that I couldn’t kill him. Lex escaped to fight another day, perhaps.
get_1 ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crow_T._Robot and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tom_Servo )
You are Crow T. Robot and Tom Servo, plucky wise-cracking sidekicks to Joel Robinson and Mike Nelson on the Satellite of Love. The Toddler and Daddy both enjoy watching Mystery Science Theater 3000 very much (though the Toddler is probably in it more for the popcorn than anything else) and you have been recruited to help stop the DVD on DVD war once and for all. Once each night, you may target another player and heckle them with your keen wit and sharp barbs. They will be so overcome with shame and humilation at your scathing satire that they will only be able to post once the next day phase. If you are selected to make the night kill, you can't be misdirected away from your target since you will always have two sets of eyes... ermm... sensors on the target. Also, the first time you are successfully hit with a night kill, only one of the robots will be destroyed, leaving the other to carry on the fight... though you will lose your special powers since you just aren't as effective with only one robot (you will become vanilla).
get actually spent most of the game vanilla since Crow died night 2 from the “thing” he was sent. Also Crow and Tom was a traitor on this team and he could have won with the Daddy’s Mafia. Gypsy (michganj24) was his contact. get_1 was the only player to make extensive use of his spy messages and I thought they were pretty brilliant. Kudos to you, sir.
Wade Wilson ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fraggle_Rock )
You are Uncle "Traveling" Matt, a bold explorer who left Fraggle Rock to investigate the outside world, but you stay in touch with your nephew Gobo by regularly sending him postcards describing your travels. Another favorite of both Toddler and Daddy, your information disemination skills could proove to be very useful to end the war. Once per night, you can send the Moderator a note for another player. This note can say anything you want: false intel, predictions of doom and death, instructions to do a certain thing, or even just tell them of the lovely sunset you observed. I will forward the note on to the player of your choice. Whether or not they take your note to heart will be left entirely up to how persuasively your note was written. If you are selected to make the night kill, you will carefully study your target and take notes before making the kill, getting a clue as to their role or power (this clue copping works whether or not the kill was successful).
I thought these messages could be pretty fun, but alas Wade died night 1. Also Uncle Matt was another traitor on this team and he could have won with the Toddler’s Mafia. Big Bird (ChiRocker) was his contact but he died before sending any messages.
Neutral
Song of Ice and Fire ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eric_Cartman )
You are Eric Cartman, the foul-mouthed fat kid from South Park. You hate hippies, Kyle, your teachers, Kyle, school, Kyle, women, Kyle, Jews, Kyle, Family Guy, and… well, pretty much anything that isn’t food or your toys. Oh, and Kyle once again for good measure. And you’re not fat, you’re big-boned. Anyway, you spend so much time being a pain in everyone’s ### that you don’t even realize just how despised you are. You are a Jester and your whole job in this game is to be as despicable as possible and get yourself lynched; you win when you are lynched. You can’t tell anyone that you are a Jester and that you are trying to get them to kill you; if you do so, or hint in anyway that you are a Jester, I will modkill you and you will lose. You can also survive one NK attempt, so that way you don’t “accidentally” die before you have at least a little chance to try to get everyone mad at you. Oh, and by the way, I don’t actually own any DVDs of your show… I only watch you streaming from the South Park website. This is why you’re neutral.
It would have been hilarious if you guys had actually lynched Song day 1. She would have technically won without even posting once

Heh, being silenced D1 and killed on N2 was pretty brutal, but as soon as I saw a second mafia, I knew that JRS4 & Suga were making a mistake voting for Tpchid. YOU NEVER VOTE FOR YOUR MAFIA WHEN THERE ARE COMPETING MAFIAS; it won't clear you or make you look good because there can be competing mafias.
BTW, I totally called out distrust of the "spys" on our proboards. I suspected they were traitors, and I think I even called it out.

normal - Great game! Reading the roles, I think the game was well balanced. I think our targeting was part luck and part Get's keen ability to anticipate the other mafia's moves. Also, we led the lynches and kept them away from us. It would have been hard to lynch us during the second half of the game and we weren't getting killed at night. So it really came down to selective targeting. Props to Get!
The JK was used to our advantage. We didn't use the janitoring because of Get losing his extra life and becoming vanilla. It made sense to have Get do the killing once he became vanilla.
Once multiple mafias were revealed, I was very surprised that JRS4 claimed town. Additionally, I was surprised that more discussion wasn't had on the thread. We had larger numbers so we didn't need to be vocal about getting people on our side, but I thought the other mafias may have needed to flesh out who was who without lynching one another. Maybe start a train to see who jumps on it. Something like that, but it never really happened.

I was really REALLY surprised that there wasn't more discussion of this across all three mafias.
I thought that for sure it would come out and there would be a lot of sceond guessing just who was working with who... in the end, though, it barely registered on anyone's radars that there maybe be traitors in their own mafias. Or, at least, there was no real discussion about it.
Huh, I thought I had sent one message. I remember asking if it was okay to send it, but looking back I never actually did - oops! :nervous:

I didn't call it out, but it really worried me when they began talking about it on the proboard. I kept thinking, "What the heck is going on? Are these guys traitors? Do I need to worry about them stabbing me in the back? Why didn't I get a secret contact?"
I had a bunch of questions for them, but Get was the only one that seemed to be interacting a lot with his contact. He was forthcoming with what was being discussed. So I didn't worry about him. Morph and Vevil didn't say much about their contact, but it sounds like there wasn't much interaction, hence not much to report on the proboard.

How exactly did you handle the traitors? If they were alive at endgame with that other mafia, then they can win? Or did they have to tell you that they were trying to win with the other mafia? I've never seen traitors in other mafia games I've been in.
Thanks for the writeup and again for the game.
Hey, at least I did successfully guess Wade's ID as Uncle Matt. Though by guessing his ID I was targeted. :\
Also, having both of the two 1st time players on the same team didn't help our chances.
I decided to use my spy contact to my advantage, helping my mafia win. :p
Also, I made him spaz out on this thread. And he posted about Ewoks.

It was an awesome guess! We thought you janitored Wade and that's how you knew. Seemed like a newbie mistake to call out the janitored role during the next day. However sometimes newbies look at things differently and end up being very insightful. As you did. It is unfortunate for you that it also brought along attention.
Two 1st time players on the same team could prove difficult. I hope you had a good time though. Some games are awesome and you get killed early. Other games are so bad you regret joining them. All in all, they tend to be a good time and it's fun seeing how different mods run the games differently and handle the writeups differently. Now that you've got your feet wet, you need to join in a couple more and really get into the swing of things.
Corn,
Thanks. I was actually amazed how much time I was spending just watching for updates. I was hitting refresh and wanting to see what others were saying. Unfortunately for me it hit me at a bad time at work so I was almost grateful when I died.
Plus, now he probably feels the need to get revenge on me.
Ah yes. That is how many young mafians got their start. Declaring BLOOD VENDETTA against me after their first game... :cheeky:

If they were still alive by the time their other mafia gained the upper hand, yeah they would win.
The only reason this didn't end on night 5 was because you guys had no idea that DroppinSuga was part of your mafia and you might've used your majority block to lynch him instead of deadshot... allowing deadshot to potentially get one more kill in night 6. Basically, there was no way your mafia could lose, but depending on exactly what you did, you might still have lost some people.

And he's such a tenacious player, I can't believe he wasn't targeted a second time for a NK. The writeup made it pretty clear that he was a two player character that had lost a life. I figured whoever went after him the first time would do it a second time to finish the job. We kept waiting for the hammer to drop and lose him, but that didn't happen. It could've happened last night when Grinner tried to kill him, but it didn't thanks to the JK.
Get will have to be a Day 1 lynch in your next game.

and thanks for such a strong mafia team.
Well, I matched the roles to players randomly (like I've done before for this series), so I can't take the credit there.
However, hindsight being 20/20, I probably should have made sure the two rookies were on different teams so that one team wasn't hit with the double-whammy, experience-wise. All things considered, though, I thought they handled themselves quite well for their first outing.

Great game Normal, I had a blast! Congrats to my team on the win. I wasn't totally sure if suga could win with us, but I tried to stray away from killing him just in case. Get should really get the MVP for this one, he really helped guide us and made use of the spy aspect of things marvelously. I was apprehensive about my contact and didn't respond to the one message I was sent. The balance of the game is really great, and the write ups were great. There are reasons I try not to miss a Normal game. I would love for another RPG mafia.
