why blue and yellow

why is it that prof. x used yellow and blue for the team colors?why not something black orange.or just black

I'll tell you why. Back then Black didn't look good in printed pictures. They used that dot process for coloring. If Venom were created back then he would have been the color of Butterscotch. If you wonder what that looks like play Marvel vs. Capcom 2. I believe one of Venoms alternate colors is Butterscotch.

Yeah, the x-men outfits I believe are SUPPOSED to be black and yellow and spidey is red and black. but like clark kent's hair, the make it blue because they couldn't do shades of black too well.

Well, Charles was a big UCLA fan in his youth, and he wanted to make the uniforms blue and gold, but that was before we had mettalic colors in 4-color comics, so they woulnd up with blue and yellow. see?

Well...

I heard from a reliable source (ToddM) that they originally were supposed to be yellow and green. This was due to the fact that Prof X got the idea of creating the X-men while he was in Africa, hopped up on halucinogenic toads that were green and yellow.

See, the original colorist was color blind and he thought he was using green, when in actuality he had grabbed his blue marker.

Or so I've heard...;)
