First off, the basic rules for any of my Mafia games:

1. If you are killed/lynched/eliminated during the game, you will not be able to fulfill your game condition and therefore you WILL NOT be able to win the game. Entiende?

2. If you need to know how to play "Mafia", well, you can either look at the zillion threads that have cropped up on it or you can get the actual rules here: http://MAFIA SCUM (http://mafiascum.net/)

3. Remember that you may not PM anyone during the game unless your write-up - or something sent to you by the game moderator (that would be me) - says that you can do so. Doing otherwise is cheating and will lead to horrible things, like disembowelment and being fed screaming to Hungry Joe Quesada!!

4. You may not discuss this game - except in allowed PM's - outside of this thread; that includes "real life" conversation or casual mentioning of your role to a buddy.

5. Votes for lynching someone must be BOLDED or they do not count!

6. Once you're dead, you need to not only refrain from discussing the game -at all- (this includes no PM's to former team members or chatting in other threads about it) but from posting on the game thread. This is considered cheating and will get you banned from any future mafia games that I run.

7. There is no editing of posts allowed in the thread. Yes, that means we can all point fun at each other's typos - even changing them is not allowed - but it's the standard rule and a good one so I'm sticking by it.

8. If you have to PM me an action, be sure to do so before the Day/Night Phase is up or I'll assume that you did nothing but sit on your read end. Simultaneously, if you're restricted in posting or have a rule that adjusts your actions, be sure to follow it.

Somewhere, out there in the Multiverse, every permutation of reality can be found. Every single one - including the one where the Infinite Monkey Theorem actually comes from (you know, the one that states that a monkey hitting keys at random on a typewriter keyboard for an infinite amount of time will almost surely type a given text, such as the complete works of William Shakespeare. The Stralkowski corollary to this theorem is that every fourth word of the complete works of Shakespeare will be misspelled. Goes a little something like this.)

PROLOGUE

A small figure sits at a computer keyboard, furiously uploading file after file and encrypting the data. It quickly dashes to a drawing table on the other side of the room and gathers the final set of blueprints to be uploaded. Surely this work can be done before it is too late. Before the crucial data can be intercepted by the enemies of its kind and turned to nefarious ends. With trembling fingers, the small figure manages to make one final scan and throws the blueprints into a nearby shredder.

Just as the documents are completely destroyed, the door bursts open. They have found him! Lawgiver, noooo!!!! Screeching, the small figure hurls itself at the keyboard, desperately trying to reach the “enter” key before they are upon it. As accursed fate would have it, the small figure slips upon a banana peel on the floor and comes crashing down. Strong arms reach out for it and hold it down, incapacitated. All that the fearful captive can do is stare in mute horror as the images flash across the computer screen. The data is intact. The device can be rebuilt. New Ape City is doomed.

Sensing its despair, one of the enemies turns his attention upon the small figure.

“As if you could outsmart us, you stupid primate,” it growls in a low voice. “This is a world gone mad. An abomination of nature. It does not deserve to exist – and neither do you.”

The small figure is not even allowed to plead for mercy. A terrible grip closes about its windpipe and squeezes with implacable might. The small figure is lifted from the floor, its lower appendages jerking spasmodically. Very soon, the dance of death is done. There is the sickening sound of torn cartilage. The small one goes limp, its head lolling to one side, eyes bugged out and hurling accusations from beyond the grave at the enemy that has brought him low.

“Seize the data,” commands the low voice. “Throw that useless carcass on the floor. The only thing that counts in the end is power! Naked merciless force!”

In the morning, the small figure is found, horribly mutilated. The authorities of New Ape City go into high alert. And so begins the final battle for the survival of this world.

CharlesX is DEAD!! He was Frank Cho’s Monkey Boy (Monkeys/Town), an unfortunate victim of circumstance whose only wish was to stem the awful tide of catastrophe that now looms before the whole primate race!!

I'm so divided...I'm happy to be in a ChazX game again but he blindsided me by getting me to join after I expressed my RL dislike of monkeys (which doesn't translate to my character before people get meta...and for those who don't mind gruesome details I will gladly reiterate how I came to dislike monkeys...and it has nothing to do with flinging.)

Yeah, guess it was dumb to post something like that and not realize I was basically "begging" to be asked.

Back when I was a kid, one of the interests of my family's corporation was that we took over research at the Los Alamos Primate Research Institute. The PRI used to get the monkeys, apes, chimps, etc. after FDA and others were done with them. The other government agencies were...rough...on primates so by the time they got to PRI, the primates were mean and vicious. Basically after being abused elsewhere they were sent to PRI to "live out their days". Snarling chimps (which get big, by the way), are already not very endearing but here's the clincher story:

One day, heading in to work with my father (a fairly unusual thing for multiple reasons), we got there and were told that the firm in charge of security (we ran labs, they ran security, others ran administrative, etc.) had a problem and my father needed to check it out. They didn't say it was serious nor that "You should probably leave your son behind while you come with us."...so Dad figured it was a technical problem or something. During the night shift, a janitor had gotten too close to one of the chimp's cages and the chimp decided he wanted the guy in the cage with him...and proceeded to succeed at the endeavour.

Man. Through bars. Oddly satiated gore-covered chimp.

(Those of you who've ever seen Gaiman's "Sandman" run - the early issue with John Constantine's buddy's place? Those panels actually make me think of that floor and hallway.)

It kind-of stuck with me.

Get_1 is being a jerk. Why would I waste a fakeclaim with no pressure on day 1? I've got nothing to hide here. Cop me, you'll find me neutral. Track me, you'll find I have no active night power. JK and RB me, to waste your time and action. MD me, if you don't want to cause trouble early.

I'd expect the same from anyone else in this position. It's why I claimed as I did in deadshot's raft game. Not a threat to anyone, and this is a best way for me to win. You play the game for you to win, I play it for me to win, and the chips fall where they may.
I can win with you, so why you're lynching me other than an opinion over the way I play the game is beyond me. There are other targets more worth your time.

I would say his claim was very clear. He said he is undead, he is stealing a compass from Jack and that his name is Jack. He was being coy, but clear.

My exact win condition is that as long as I'm alive when the game is over, I win. So I would guess I can win with the SK, if there even is one. The SK in Stand-up could win with neutrals.

I claimed because of the following scenario: Say I get copped, or vig targetted. The kill would fail or I would come up neutral. Then someone starts a pressure train. My vote threshold is low, I don't know exactly how low, but I don't want to tempt fate. So I claimed in good faith. No other role has incentive to claim Day 1 with no pressure. I claimed because it's my play to win.

The bulletproof claim doesn't bother me much. The vig doesn't always take an action N1 anyway so they coudl merely test this claim N1 instead.

I gotta agree with them. The key to playing survivor is to wait until mid/late game to reveal it so that you know the numbers are more balanced when you do. That way neither side can afford to lose your cooperation.

The difference is that in deadshot's game you actually helped the Town. Here, you have no reason to help outing Mafiosos, and your vote is unreliable in the end game. The way I see it, getting rid of you now is better than going No lynch.

What part of "not helping the town" did you miss? Not voting at all makes it harder to achieve lynches we need. better to be rid of you outright and not have to worry at all.

That's the exact opposite of what you should have said. A non-voter makes it that much more difficult to lynch mafia. In fact, it can make it so the mafia can win one day earlier by making it impossible for the town to achieve a lynch.

It is broad daylight in the Caribbean, but it's as dark as midnight in the deep sea caverns of the Isla de Muerta. An equally dark ritual takes place among the piles of bones and forgotten treasure trove that litters the place. A coin of Aztec gold is anointed with blood and returned to the gaping pirate chest. Lo and behold, the ages-old curse is broken.

Meanwhile, in New Ape City...

The capuchin monkey prances up and down, protesting his fate now that he is no longer invulnerable to harm. To no avail. The mob has gotten very ugly, very quickly. Grasping paws clutch the capuchin monkey by the scruff of his neck and drag him to the hanging tree. No matter how loudly he screams, protesting his innocence, a cruel noose is draw around his neck. They drag him bodily into the air, and thus the capuchin monkey spends his last moments dancing the Macarena at the end of a rope.

Immortal Raven is DEAD!!! He was Jack the undead monkey from Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl (Neutral) - a true case study in the field of Mafia Darwinism.

Day is DONE!!!! Send in those actions!!!

NIGHT ONE

Shadows have descended upon New Ape City. Heavy clouds obscure the gibbous moon and stars.

The angry individual has found himself a gun and knows exactly what he wants to do with it. He marches to a house down the street and ruthlessly kicks down the door. Yelling at the top of his lungs, he rushes in and starts shooting up the place.

Upstairs, a tall fellow is getting ready to go out on an errand when he hears the din. Startled, he tries to hide in a closet. He is shocked to see that someone is in there already. Early in the evening, yet another unfortunate fellow is lured into a trap. He is taken to a hidden laboratory and unspeakable things are done to him. Afterward, his remains are dumped on the grounds of Silver Springs Nature Park. What is left of the poor wretch cannot be identified.

Two shadowy figures approach a nearby warehouse from opposite sides. One of them is the angry individual with a gun. The other is a small, fierce fellow. They seem to have a common, deadly purpose. Each one is surprised to find an unlocked door, and yet even more so to find that the warehouse is empty. Almost empty, that is. In the center of the vacant space is a large crate labeled “DO NOT OPEN.” Standing on top of the crate is a dignified person. Before the other two individuals start to approach the crate, a deep voice comes from the dignified person's throat. A finger is pointed accusingly first at one and then at the other would-be assailant.

“Shame on you for letting your baser instincts rule your reason! Violence will not be tolerated within the precincts of this city. I charge you to look upon the history that has brought us here and to take to heart what has been set down in the Thirteenth Scroll. And now I command you to depart the way that you came. Repent while you still can!!!”

The words seem to strike a chord within both of the other individuals. Chastised, they lower their heads and shamefully slink off into the night.

The martial artist is leaping gracefully from rooftop to rooftop as he goes about his mission. The dense fog does not seem to hinder his senses and he passes through the night like a speeding ghost. Eventually, he reaches his destination. The martial artist enters a darkened office building. Minutes later, he emerges, a look of satisfaction upon his face. Once more, he climbs to the rooftops and is gone, certain that he has gone undetected. Which is actually not the case.

Respectfully, you need to remember not all of us are in your timezone. I hopped on in the morning - the phase having been closed before I was around - to see things had "swung" in the interim. Ok, here's IR's fun timeline of the game.

-Day 1-Everyone checks in, I claim under no pressure whatsoever, a very pro-town move. Get_1 immediately votes and insists I'm lying. We argue back and forth, and I make a stupid faux pas by offering not to vote at all. Dumb move on my part, but you people jumped on the lynch train and heard what you wanted to hear. I guess all I did was not explicitly offer to play pro-town. I was dead.

-Night 1, I get rezzed through some unknown means. My win condition didn't change, my powers did. I'm no longer bulletproof, but no longer have the low vote threshold. So I did lie a little bit yesterday. I figured it would work better than telling the truth, because look what that got me. Pinheads.

-So we go back and forth yesterday, and don't even get much out of kontrol despite some pressure. Now kontrol is dead, and most likely town. I'll admit, it was the wrong way to go.

Now Quebbs and Rokk are questioning me today again. And guess what, while you waste time lynching me and not investigating other people, the mafia will gain majority and win. 17 player game, 4 or 5 person mafia. We're down to 15 now. Lynch me and at least one kill tonight, it's now 13 players left, still the same number of mafia. And that doesn't include what looks like some failed NKs. So it could be worse. And the mafia has two fakeclaims.

So here's my suspicion list:
Quebbs-not pinging my radar too much, but very eager to vote.
Rokk- did not vote for kontrol, but always reminds the crowd to lynch me if we've got nothing better.

Respectfully, you need to remember not all of us are in your timezone. I hopped on in the morning - the phase having been closed before I was around - to see things had "swung" in the interim. It's also why I couldn't respond to Kontrol and point out that my calling him out - while a bit meta - on being "online" had nothing to do with the little green "online" indicator but the fact he was busy posting in other threads at the time.

Way I see it, if you can take the time to gab about comics or something, you've got time to respond to people voting for you.

My issue is that everyone trusted the dancing monkey on the Wade pressure and then derailed when I said no to kontrol's pressure. My frustration wasn't aimed at any one person.

stan's letters were a little too wide to be legible on my phone screen. :(

As I said last Day phase - though I was erroneous in thinking it wouldn't take normal majourity to lynch IR - if he's so certain his undead power is what brings him back I don't see a reason to not lynch him if we don't have another lead. If he's telling the truth, he'll be back. If he's not telling the truth, we catch a scummer. Seems simple enough.

That's what I was trying to say yesterday, but only had the time/patience to say so much.

Ok, here's IR's fun timeline of the game.

-Day 1-Everyone checks in, I claim under no pressure whatsoever, a very pro-town move. Get_1 immediately votes and insists I'm lying. We argue back and forth, and I make a stupid faux pas by offering not to vote at all. Dumb move on my part, but you people jumped on the lynch train and heard what you wanted to hear. I guess all I did was not explicitly offer to play pro-town. I was dead.

-Night 1, I get rezzed through some unknown means. My win condition didn't change, my powers did. I'm no longer bulletproof, but no longer have the low vote threshold. So I did lie a little bit yesterday. I figured it would work better than telling the truth, because look what that got me. Pinheads.

-So we go back and forth yesterday, and don't even get much out of kontrol despite some pressure. Now kontrol is dead, and most likely town. I'll admit, it was the wrong way to go.

Now Quebbs and Rokk are questioning me today again. And guess what, while you waste time lynching me and not investigating other people, the mafia will gain majority and win. 17 player game, 4 or 5 person mafia. We're down to 15 now. Lynch me and at least one kill tonight, it's now 13 players left, still the same number of mafia. And that doesn't include what looks like some failed NKs. So it could be worse. And the mafia has two fakeclaims.

So here's my suspicion list:
Quebbs-not pinging my radar too much, but very eager to vote.
Rokk- did not vote for kontrol, but always reminds the crowd to lynch me if we've got nothing better.

I'm sorry, was I supposed to write a sonnet? I had to talk like a frakking monkey. I did the best with what I had. I think I communicated rather well considering. I guess my mistake was thinking that people would get what I was trying to say without spending an hour typing it. That is my fault.

I'm leaning towards Jailkeep/RBnexus and unblockable kill if you catch my drift. As for why he may not have PGO'd himself, I don't always let roles like that protect themselves so that may be the case here. I feel that letting people protect themselves is against the spirit and logical mechanics of the role.

Yeah, I had good results the one time I faked a post restriction too. Still, calling the restriction (self-imposed or not) "goofy" and "distracting" is pretty downgrading I think.

I just find it awesome, how someone comes on and plops down a vote with ZERO information, and the guy who claims and provides actual information is given less credence than the train starter who gave (and possibly had) no information.
